The Energy Bill really is disgusting. I hated the way the Democrats launched their jihad against Cheney and the manner the energy bill was written, and it is still my belief that how the bill was written is not relevant. What is relevant, however, is that this bill, by most objective accounts and non-objective accounts (such as this, via Max Sawicky), is just a disgusting, distasteful, pork-barrel waste of a stinker.
Most personally offensive to me are the ethanol subsidies and the gas pipeline subsidies.
Try again, folks.

Those ethanol subsidies will make my work to get Byron Dorgan reelected much much easier. I would normally voice my disgust but those subsidies are key to my boy here in North Dakota.
Those subsidies will also help Dasche (Senator Ethanol Subsidy, as Atrios calls him) win in 04.

Energy bill + pork components + already balloning deficit = dumb, dumb politics!
Consider the following commentary from the site: Citizens Against Government Waste:

CCAGW points to the following special interest spending items in the energy bill:
$20 billion for a 3,500-mile pipeline from Alaska to the lower 48 states, including a $20 million worker-training program for pipeline workers.
$2.9 billion in corporate welfare for some of the wealthiest corporations in the fossil fuel industry.
$2 billion

Yglesias nails it:
