You know, I just knew that someone would try to draw this conclusion from what I wrote. I guess it’s no surprise that it was you.
I have no problem with running foreign affairs in the national interest, but it’s the neocon democracy promoters who claim that we shouldn’t, that we should promote democracy all the time everywhere. I think that’s utopian, but if that’s their position then they ought to stick with it all the time.
As for me, I obviously didn’t say that we should never promote our interests. I said that if we want to be taken seriously as democracy promoters we need to promote it consistently, not only when it works in our favor. If the only time you promote democracy is in the abstract, it’s not much good, is it?
You really ought to try and read my actual words in the future. I know it’s less fun that way, but it’s kind of pointless criticizing something that I never said.
I did read your words, came to the conclusion that you yourself feared someone would come to, and then you state that I “really ought to try and read my actual words in the future.”
Why didn’t you re-write it so your words reflected what you meant, rather than getting mad at me for interpreting it the way you knew it would be…
BTW- There is nothing wrong with the neo-con utopian ideal of promoting democracy everywhere- I am all in favor of that, as it appears youare. However, I have no problem with the President doing what he is currently doing, promoting democracy in general, while advancing US interests in the specific.

CalPundit misspeaks but his overall message is valid. He really should have been clearer and substituted ‘oil’ for ‘energy.’
By not looking at alternative energy sources (as well as gutting air pollution standards), your president is setting up a vicious cycle where we’re going to have to “defend” US interests whenever a country elects to use oil as economic leverage.
Believe it or not, democracy really has nothing to do with naked acts of aggression to seize the assets of another country.

American interests are inherently evil don’tchaknow…
Chris Lawrence
Hey, JadeGold, if that’s the case, where’s my oiiiiil? I should have a pond of that sweet Iraqi crude in my backyard by now.
JadeGold
You’d have that pond were it not for the fact your president has so badly mismanaged the Iraqi invasion.
Mission accomplished? Only if the mission was to create a quagmire.
Tim Mace
Badly mismanaged? Not even Manstein could have pulled off a quicker victory.
As for the second part… lol.
