‘Moderate’ Democrat Oliver Willis links approvingly to this sign, which states “Nobody Died When Clinton Lied.” Does this mean that Democrats are now admitting that Clinton was a liar and a perjurer? How refreshing.

Fiscal Conservatives
That is a portrait of what governance by ‘fiscal conservatives’ looks like. A lot of the deficit can be explained by the war on terror and the poorer than expected economy, but show me the spending cuts. You can’t. And the fools on the left are chasing mythical lies while this deficit sits here glaring them in the face, and you wonder why I think Democrats are stupid (although it appears that Kevin Drum might be catching on.)
About Time
The Instapundit is finally pointing out what we discussed last week– the DNC is a bunch of liars:
CREEPING DOWDIFICATION? The Democrats have a commercial — ironically named “truth” — that features a clip of President Bush saying:
Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.
Of course, what Bush actually said was:
The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.
Of course, I noted that last week- but at least Glenn will get the message to a lot of people. Glenn also has a link to a great dissection of all the ‘Bush lied” charges.
But Can He Spell Potato
This is just amusing, and pity the fools that try to get more than a few laughs out of it:
Democratic presidential candidate Bob Graham (search), in sharply criticizing President Bush’s veracity about Iraq’s weapons programs, got a bit confused about the number of letters in the word “deceit.”
“I would not use the three-letter word,” the Florida senator told reporters. “I would use the five-letter word: deceit. That he deceived the American people by allowing into a State of the Union speech at a critical point when he was making the case for war with Iraq, a statement that he either knew was wrong or should have known was wrong.”
Radioactive
Personally, I am no longer discussing ‘uranium-gate.’ It is clear the President did not lie, it was only a minor portion of the reason to go to war with Iraq, Tenet has taken responsibility, and the Brist still stand by the info- to me, the issue is dead.
What I am going to do is watch the Democrats try to work on this meme, and I am going to relish watching the left-wing bloggers work themselves into a lather over the issue. Then, when it goes nowhere, I am going to gleeful watch them all implode with rage. I’ve seen this ‘gotcha’ and ‘the Prez is a lair’ behavior before- I was part of it, launching futile and silly attacks at the Clintons- he got re-elected. Surprising how the party of smart people can’t figure this out.
*** Update ***
This is interesting:
The diplomat who set off a political firestorm last week when he told the New York Times that President Bush may have “exaggerated” when he told the nation that Iraq sought nuclear fuel in Africa admitted last October that he believed Saddam Hussein had “an aggressive program to try and get” nuclear weapons.
Though former acting U.S. ambassador to Iraq Joseph C. Wilson’s op-ed in the Times warned that Bush might have led the U.S. to war “under false pretenses” by ginning up a bogus nuclear threat, he was singing a different tune during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes” nine months ago.
Under close questioning by Sean Hannity, Wilson insisted that Saddam “doesn’t have nuclear weapons, to the best of anybody’s knowledge.”
But then, in an admission that contradicts the central point of his Times op-ed, Wilson added, “though he has an aggressive program to try and get them.”
Last week, Wilson cited his inability to confirm an Iraq-Niger nuke connection to conclude in the Times: “Some of the intelligence related to Iraq’s nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the nuclear threat.”
But if, as Wilson told “Hannity & Colmes” in October, he believed Saddam indeed had an “aggressive” nuclear program at the time, his claim that Bush distorted the nuclear threat seems disingenuous at best.
Julian Bond
Letf-wingers often like to attack Republicans for things the right-wing fringe says and does- most recently, Republicans united to condemn the idiotic remarks of Pat Robertson, who was supporting the Liberian strong-man Taylor. It is time for Democrats to come forward and disavow the remarks of Julian Bond, who was speaking to the NAACP. And spare me the crap that the NAACP is non-partisan:
Republicans appeal “to the dark underside of American culture, to that minority of Americans who reject democracy and equality,” NAACP Chairman Julian Bond said yesterday at the civil rights group’s 94th annual convention.
“They preach racial neutrality and practice racial division … their idea of reparations is to give war criminal Jefferson Davis a pardon,” Mr. Bond said during his welcoming remarks. “Their idea of equal rights is the American flag and Confederate swastika flying side by side.”
Mr. Bond, who in a 2001 speech compared conservatives to the Taliban, never specifically used the term Republicans but made the comments about those who control the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court.
“We are and always have been nonpartisan … but being nonpartisan doesn’t mean being noncritical. And it doesn’t even mean criticizing all parties equally. If the Democrats were doing anything, we’d criticize them, too,” Mr. Bond said.
I will be waiting for the left to denounce these remarks.
When God Gives You Lemons
You make lemonade. Democrats are now completely sold that Bush lied, and they are now moving on as if that is de facto and de jure the truth (in their attempt to find a Bush scandal du jour). Now, Oliver ups the ante– not only did the White House get caught in a lie, but they have decided to use it to their advantage to get rid of george Tenet:
There was a method to the White House acknowledging the fraudulency of the uranium situation: take down Tenet and the CIA…
The info I’ve seen so far says that the CIA hedged their bets at best about the Iraqi WMD program, and that they urged the Brits to dispense with the Nigerian tube evidence, while it was the Cheney-Rumsfeld wing of activity (including Condi Rice) who were ready to go guns-a-blazin’ on Iraq. This is rotten from the head on down, and the Democrats will be remiss in their duties if they don’t pursue this to the hilt.
Do you understand now why I called the previous posts Democrat over-reach? That Bush lied is now a settled fact to the left, now they are looking for their own little Watergate. It’s fun to watch these guys. And, for clarity- that is Oliver Willis making the claim, and not Oliver Stone.
*** Update ***
Uh oh. Tenet is now claiming it was the CIA’s fault. I guess the line will now be that Bush has been after Tenet forever, and they conveniently got rid of him while covering up for Bush’s lie. Of course, that is not what Tenet is saying, Bush is saying, Tony Blair is saying, or anyone in the Administration- but hey, you gotta love the loony left:
CIA Director George Tenet acknowledged Friday his agency wrongly allowed President Bush to tell the American people that Iraq was seeking nuclear material from Africa when analysts had doubts about the quality of the intelligence.
“These 16 words should never have been included in the text written for the president,” Tenet said in a statement released after Bush and his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, blamed the miscue on the CIA and members of Congress called for someone to be held accountable.
“This was a mistake,” the director’s statement said.
Stayed tuned for more spin from the Democrats. I am predicting they will say what I have said above, or they will claim that this is clear proof of the incompetence of the Bush administration. Should be entertaining.
