Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

In after Baud. Damn.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Come on, man.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Petty moves from a petty man.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Democrat Over-Reach

by John Cole|  July 11, 200311:48 am| 9 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

If you thought the Democrat Over-Reach and indignation was pathetic regarding Bush’s speech on the aircraft carrier, or any of the other 500 times the Democrats ‘have finally shown some backbone and opposition’ (how many times will they have to jump on something before liberal bloggers will drop the mantra that the Democrats never stand up to Bush?- all they do is oppose), the you will really enjoy the flooding of the zone regarding the Niger comments from the left. From the past 24-48 hours, here are the posts from just a few liberal bloggers:

Oliver Willis: One Two Three Four Five Six Seven

CalPundit: One Two Three Four Five

Daily Kos: One Two Three Four Five

Flood the Zone, guys! Here is the DNC commercial claiming Bush lied. Don;t they understand that false accusations are going to get them nowhere? And while we are at it, the best (or should I say most prolific?) liar of the current crop of Democrat Presidential candidates, John Kerry, had this to say:

Mistakes and Lying

Instapundit and Randy Barnett stumble across something we discussed months ago here- the new Democrat tactic is to claim that any mistake is a lie.

I guess when you are desperate, you will just say anything.

Edwards Delivers

This will help John Edwards campaign coffers:

The U.S. Senate voted 49-48 to deny President George W. Bush another victory on health-care policy by blocking legislation to limit medical malpractice lawsuits and jury awards to injured patients.

Doctors, nursing homes, health plans such as Aetna Inc. and hospital owners such as Health Management Associates Inc. support the bill, saying it will lower premiums charged by malpractice insurers such as FPIC Insurance Group Inc. and ProAssurance Corp.

“A lot of these are frivolous lawsuits,” said Senator John Ensign, a Nevada Republican. “In our legislation, we are trying to bring some balance back to the system.”

I expect Edwards will surge forward in the fundraising race this quarter, particularly when you consider the shady manner in which his campaign funds have been raised to date.

Excellent Piece

by John Cole|  July 10, 20031:58 pm| 6 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

John Hawkins has a complete recap of the myths, misstatements, and flat out lies that our friends on the left are spreading in order to attack Bush over Iraq. For example- how many lefty websites have crowed that the intelligence Bush cited about Iraqi uranium purchase from Niger were forgeries? Now, ask yourself how many of them have pointed out that the British have alternative sources of intelligence to back up that claim, and they are most assuredly not forgeries- and that the Brits stand by the claim to this day.

Go read.

9/11 Report

by John Cole|  July 10, 20031:50 pm| Leave a Comment

This post is in: War on Terror aka GSAVE®

This should be interesting:

A long-awaited final report on the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks will be released in the next two weeks, containing new information about U.S. government mistakes and Saudi financing of terrorists.

Former Rep. Tim Roemer, who served on the House Intelligence Committee and who has read the report, said it will be ”highly explosive” when it becomes public.

The staff director for the congressional investigation that produced the 800-page report, Eleanor Hill, said Wednesday that several lengthy battles with the Bush administration over how much secret data to declassify have been resolved.

She expects the document to go to the Government Printing Office late this week and then be made public about a week later.

”It’s compelling and galvanizing and will refocus the public’s attention on Sept. 11,” predicted Roemer, an Indiana Democrat. “Certain mistakes, errors and gaps in the system will be made clear.”
