I leave for the conference tomorrow, still in panic mode so this is my weak excuse for blogging. I noticed the other day that when you google ‘Sony android’ the first hit is my post about the Sony rootkit fiasco (more about that here and here). Pretty cool, unless you’re Sony in which case the few Isaac Asimov fans who didn’t already know about your idiotic spyware scam now do.
Carry on.

For amusement, go to gizoogle.com, and enter in the most straitlaced sites you can think of. irs.gov was a fun one to start out with. It only changes the first page of the site, though.

Tim I’m still waiting for an apology from you for calling me a liar. If you disagree with my characterization that many anti-war people do not approve of starting a war for the future political goals of starting a democracy in Iraq and only would support a war in Iraq in case of an imminent threat, then present some data to the contrary. I’m still waiting for your information or some survey to back that up.
In the meantime, I’m still waiting for a clarification for the following statement you made in a post about what Scott Adams from Dilbert said:
Adams:
Tim’s characterization of Adam’s statement:
Now you compare Adam’s statement with Tim’s characterization of it. Did Adam’s say or even imply gradeschoolers? Now who’s the liar? Who twists the facts to fit his ideas? And by the way, I already gave you a chance to correct your fallacies but you didn’t take them back.
I’m also waiting for an apology to TallDave when you ridiculed him about the concept of a possible global cooling. As we saw from that graph you posted recently, the earth goes into cooling cycles every 100,000 years and by historical data, it seems we are soon due for another cycle, so his statement had a good basis in fact.
Tim, until you can get the truth straight, don’t hurry back.

scs – Wow…a bit sensitive, aren’t we? Goodness, if everybody on this site apologized for calling others liars or for ridiculing their ideas, this site would be flooded with apologies. I’ve seen you and TallDave both dish it out quite nicely, so how come you can’t take it all of a sudden?
Tim F.
Yes, I said that it’s ridiculous to characterize people who opposed the Iraq war as pacifists. It doesn’t seem like a debatable point. A person may love the military and everything to do with militaristic imperialism and still think that invading Iraq was a stupid thing to do.
My original post made it clear that I include everything before college as too early to usefully learn the debate. If you want to browbeat me for lumping ‘grade school’ with high school, fine. But my point stands. Nobody is arguing about whether college students should be learning about creationism because they already are. I did, in two separate courses. The question concerns pre-undergraduate education and that’s the point I answered.
I disagree that TallDave requires an apology. TallDave has repeatedly used the bogus point about scientists freaking out about global cooling in the 70s to pooh-pooh global warming research today. It’s bogus. Scientists did not worry about global cooling in the 70’s, and if you think they did you can go find the peer-reviewed literature to prove it. You won’t. Eventually it gets on my nerves.
The cooling cycles that you talk about are ice ages and contrary to your assertion I took significant time to explain why I don’t believe that they are a concern. I’d say that TallDave got as reasonable an answer as he asked for.

Science has proven that TallDave has an original thought once every 100,000 years.
At least, that was the chatter back in the seventies.

No Tim, you are lying again. You didn’t say it was “ridiculous” you said it was “dishonest” (exact words from you). You called me a liar basically. And you neglected to mention that I took back the word “pacifist” before your comment and changed it to people who “don’t believe in warfare for future political goals”. Any intelligent person could realize the flip side of that is not using war except in cases of imminent threats, which seems to be a big rallying cry for the left, and by no stretch “dishonest”.
Stop trying to wiggle out of that just as you are tyring to wiggle out of your Adams comment. You just said this above “My original post made it clear that I include everything before college as too early to usefully learn the debate”. Once again, stop being dishonest and admit your mistake for God’s sake. The point is not what YOU think, the point is that you innaccurately wrote that Adams CLAIMED gradeschoolers. To repeat you wrote “it is not helpful for grade schoolers to ‘learn the debate,’ as Scott CLAIMS “. This is not just a small error, but an important part of the idea, because to twist Adams words into gradeschoolers, which he clearly didn’t mean, you unfairly make his point ridiculous, and bolster yours through false means. And you complain about Bush being dishonest? You should go to work for him.
And then you said this: “TallDave has repeatedly used the bogus point about scientists freaking out about global cooling in the 70s to pooh-pooh global warming research today. “ He didn’t just talk about the 70’s, he talked about it as a possibility in the future as well. Twisting the truth again to cya. As a future ice age, so cooling period, is a very real possiblity, given the cyclical nature of them and the fact that we seem soon due for one. I would love to hear more about your pronouncemnts that we are not going to go through an ice age anytime in the future. Maybe I can send that science over to your bosses and we can start a new Tim’s Thesis “Ice Ages are Finished Forever!” (signed Tim). Just because you explained it Tim, which I believe was mostly like, “that’s ridiculous Dave and it’s not going to happen” doesn’t mean it’s true.
Tim, we are relying on you for facts and a little of bit of fairness as a blogmaster. Try to see that you stick to those ideas. And try to own up to your errors.

Just to back up my last point, here are the quotes.

“…in which case the few Isaac Asimov fans who didn’t already know about your idiotic spyware scam now do….”
I’m being slow on following how Isaac gets in here. It’s not as if he ever wrote about “androids.” (Really. Robots. Not androids.)
