Cap’n Ed today:
Patriotic doesn’t mean correct, nor does it mean incorrect. Patriots have defended this country in its every crisis. Just because Barack Obama disagrees with people or think them foolish doesn’t mean that they have committed unpatriotic acts, which is why he began to back away from his foolish statement afterwards; he undoubtedly did not want to have to start naming names, because he had none.
[…] We should hold the hyperbole, and assume the best motives whenever possible.
Cap’n Ed yesterday, as noted by John:
Selective Leaking At The New York Times: Another War At Home?
On Wednesday, I received a proof copy of Kenneth Timmerman’s new book, Shadow Warriors: The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs, and the Party of Surrender, which tells the tale of the alleged war against the Bush administration within the CIA and State Department.
[…] Timmerman’s quote from the preface seems apt today:
Many of the shadow warriors involved in this extraordinary campaign to impeach the truth have succeeded until now in keeping their role in these events hidden. They are professional bureaucrats, staff directors, intelligence operatives, National Security Council professionals, former ambassadors, and career diplomats. I will name many of them in this book for the first time, so Americans can judge their actions by the light of day.
Others — such as Senator Carl Levin (D-MI), Senator John D “Jay” Rockefeller (D-WVa), Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and General Brent Scowcroft — are public personalities. Until now they have managed to obscure their role in subverting the US-led war against the terrorists who attacked us on September 11 through political subterfuge, outright lies, and a complaisant media [formatting mine].
This book will correct the record and expose their maneuvering.
Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. Given Rockefeller’s lead role in this story, I find the timing of the book very propitious. It goes to the top of the pile this weekend.
Do two or more people really write the works of Shakespeare Ed Morrissey? Will the “real” Captain Ed wake up on Monday with no memory of the weekend? Solving this mystery could provide crucial clues towards unraveling the Glenn Reynolds conundrum.

Really, I don’t expect anything less from Captain Steno — who occasionly gets his marching orders directly from the WH. He just puts on a good face every now and then, only to show his true colors in some post the following day.

But John, this is totally different. On the one hand, Obama is talking about wearing a lapel pin. A lapel pin! That’s like a holy cross blessed by the Pope when used to fight terrorism.
And on the other hand, you’ve got a book about Demo-lammo-commie surrender monkeys working to undermine our troops and our WOT from within by committing such insidious crimes as investigating contractor abuse, fighting to prevent the use of “enhanced terror fighting techniques”, preventing President Bush from listening to Osama Bin Laden when he makes calls to the United States, and generally degrading our soldiers with bills like the Webb Amendment that seek to starve our military of personal who desperately want to finish the fight in Iraq.
Apples to Oranges, John. You should know better.

Great Post and great responses.
For right wing visitors, btw, Zifnab was being ironic. I know the right doesn’t recognize irony anymore. They still think Clarence Thomas is major philosopher who was chosen because he was a self-made man, and that Bush’ Texas accent is real.
I really wonder about America when bloggers like Captain Ed can turn into would-be-facists so quickly and smoothly.
With Blackwater representing a Born-Again Christian, taxpayer funded Private Army for Bush and Cheney and the other cohort of the right, it is possible to see an actual Coup attempt down the road.
The Democrats, and Republicans!, need to investigate these private armies and de-fund them.
Private citizens should not have the power to have their own armies.

When it comes to smearing dems and their allies, in my opinion, Captain Ed is right up there with wingnuttiest of wingnuts. A month or so ago he posted a thread going after Ed Schultz about an altercation Ed had with a drunk wingnut. Something didn’t sound right so I commented on his sight. Well, I went around and around with some of his commenter’s and lo and behold the truth came out that Cap’n Ed had based his thread on a North Dakota blog called ‘Say Anything’ which is an apt title because they had fabricated the account of the incident. The thread stopped but no changes were made to the original false assertions made by Captain Ed.

what i’m wondering is where obama said or implied that disagreeing with him is an unpatriotic act. methinks mister ed is making things up completely again.
Perry Como
In all fairness to Captain Ed, he has rightly stated that the terrorists are worse than Nazis.
The Other Andrew
Patriotic correctness = whatever Republicans say it is, apparently.

Cap’n Ed is really Francis Bacon. You heard it here first.

What Captain Ed means to say is that if it helps Bush it’s patriotic, if it hurts Bush then it’s treason.
This has been another edition of Deciphering the Dipshits.

If any of you all are still up — there’s what seems to be a live thread over at Ed’s.

Crap I think I killed it — like I probably will this one.

Everything I wrote — every word — is gone. And more than just mine.
This is why comments on a blog are just comments on a blog. They can be changed. They can be deleted. They can be used for no good purpose.
Sorry for the bring down. I actualy thought I had been restrained in my comments at Ed’s place — it was my first time there. I guess I stepped over the line.
