Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Second rate reporter says what?

Usually wrong but never in doubt

This blog will pay for itself.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Let’s finish the job.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Caps fan sorry about the anticlimactic last game there. Pens showed us what it means to be a complete hockey team and if history is any judge we’ll see you next playoffs.

    In the meantime, go Pens!

The Pens are looking like the favorites now that the Bruins choked.

When Steelers LB James Harrison was asked if he was joining his teammates in their visit to the White House on Thursday, he said that he was not and that “If you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl, So as far as I’m concerned he would have invited Arizona if they had won.”
    h/t http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/blackbandit20/191819

Harrison’s fear of flying may have played a role in his decision, though Harrison joked that the White House isn’t in one of Washington’s safer areas. “It’s not a good neighborhood over there,” Harrison said. “It’s a bad neighborhood.”

    Stay classy, James Harrison.

OK, I’m pretty sure this is a wee bit off topic but I was flipping through the channels trying to find this game and I saw that FOX has auditions for “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Do not be confused! This is not “Dancing with the Anti-Stars.”
These are kids who live to dance.

I’ve watched it for several seasons. The dancing is extraordinary, and the “reality show” aspect of these gifted young people is so engrossing. And the music and choreography usually rock too.

NYT reporter Elisabeth Bumiller is now casting doubt on the claim in her front page story today, pounced on by the right and quickly picked up on cable, that 1 in 7 detainees released from Guantanamo “returned to terrorism or militant activity.” Appearing on MSNBC today, Bumiller said “there is some debate about whether you should say ‘returned’ because some of them were perhaps not engaged in terrorism, as we know — some of them are being held there on vague charges.”

I can live with the Stillers, but God help me if Cindy gets the Cup.

I presume you’re talking about Sidney Crosby — I’ve seen people refer to him as “Cindy” before, and I’m just wondering why that is. It’s not really clever enough to be an insult, but it’s obviously not meant as an affectionate nickname. So what is the whole point of it, really?

@LauraW: I would love to watch “So You Think You Can Dance” — I’m always amazed by the physical skills and grace of top-echelon dancers. However, I simply cannot abide the shrieking and screeching of Mary Murphy. I can’t do it. That is the lone thing keeping me from watching the show.

Ah Krista, she is so annoying. How well I know. But in the grand scheme of a 90 min show, she is what %? I suck at math, but a small %, I’m guessing. She gets a few seconds to critique and comment after each performance. Think of her as a slightly more sane Paula Abdul. No, never mind. That doesn’t help my case.

I think it’s one of the best shows on teevee (when I remember to watch). It’s just raw talent, pure drive, and a lot of heart. And they are KIDS.

    I submit:

    The Closer
    Burn Notice
    Entourage
    Monk
    Weeds

@Max: Of course, Max. One can never have too many BFFs, especially online, where BFFs are fleeting and transitory.

I have to confess I do not watch a lot of entertainment shows on a regular basis since I’m pretty hooked into my evening ritual of MSNBC (Tweety, Bri Bri Williams, Keith, Rachel) while surfing BJ simultaneously. However, I LOVE WEEDS! I can not wait for it to return. Can you believe the way they left it last season?? I also LOVE Dexter. Those two I try to not ever miss. Entourage is good, and my current Must See is In Treatment. I’ve yet to find one other Juicer that will confess to an In Treatment fondness.

I still mourn the loss of Six Feet Under, Carnival, Queer as Folk.

@Max: The USA Network is just solid all the way around. In addition to Burn Notice and Monk, In Plain Sight is pretty good, and I have to confess to occasionally sneaking an NCIS every now and then. There are far more good shows on USA than any of the major networks.

Speaking of major networks, I have really become fond of Southland, which starts in about a half hour.

Laura W: I adore In Treatment. I watch it obsessively. But not as obsessively as I watch Mad Men, which I must say, in direct contradiction to our host, is most definitely the best show on teevee, hands down. And yes, I’ve watched Burn Notice and it’s good. But not Mad Men good. Plus there’s the yumminess of Jon Hamm. Also.

@Max: Project Runway and Top Chef? I am there every season. Jeff annoys me because he’s mean to people. His OCD is sort of funny, but he manipulates and dominates with it. Big power play. Whatever happened to Show Dogs Moms and Dads, or whatever that was? I loved that. “Best in Show” in weekly installments.

@geg6: In Treatment: I loved it last season (Whacko Laura!!), but (Whacko!!) Mia and Oliver are totally making this season for me. It’s just where I live. Love all the psychobabble. I’m a wanna-be shrink. Say no more.

I am officially sick to fucking death of hearing about my “safety” as an American citizen. What a craven, debased discussion. Malkin is the awesome and his parents are adorable. More hat tricks, please. Laura W: I was mesmerized by the young actress who played the gymnast last season. She was a truly great actress. I loved to hate on Laura, but she brought back bad personal memories for me. So I found her episodes a little like picking at a scab. I, too, am completely drawn to Oliver and I think Mia is going to be Paul’s new squeeze, crazy as he’d be to get into that. April breaks my heart. I replaced my rabbit ear circa 1980 teevee last week with one of those new flatscreens. I’ve been boycotting cable for 15 years however, and even if I didn’t lump Verizon FIOS in with them, I refuse to bend to VZ’s relentless campaign to sign up for it.

The problem with the new teevee is that the slightest wind disrupts the signal (still using rabbit ears), so it’s unwatchable.

This is a good thing. Bill is much happier since he can only watch DVD’s now. The rantings of Lord Voldemort do not reach my ears. (Oh the Spanish station comes in great, even during a t-storm. Maybe I’ll learn Spanish as it will soon be the official language of Los Stados Unitos de America).

I still get hit with CNN at the Gym in the morning, but maybe I’ll breakdown and get an iPod to filter that out. That anchor that inspired the Ted Knight character annoys the shiite out of me.

This was one of those open threads that collect gibberish, right? If not, pardon me , in that case I’ll say I was being mavericky.

I see that hideous blonde skank ad is still here, so No Soup For You, Cole!

    GO WHALERS!!!

I used to be a HUGE hockey fan and then the lockout happened and the Bruins sucked for about a decade or so and I lost interest. Well, I am back on the bandwagon and I watched the game last night. It reminded me of an old Smythe Division game between Calgary & Edmonton. Lots of scoring and not much defense.

Just FYI: If the Pens & Wings are in the final I am going to root for the referees to ruin the series with horrible calls. So, much like Super Bowl XL, non-fans of the winner can make the victory just a little bit less satisfying.

Just FYI: If the Pens & Wings are in the final I am going to root for the referees to ruin the series with horrible calls.

If the Pens and Wings are in the series, I am hoping a terrorist plot ensues to blow up the arena and the only person who can save the people and the series is Jean Claude Van Damme. Of course, his goaltending skills may have declined recently, so the Pens might have trouble depending on him to save so many breakaways.

Local news station here in DC has a story about some kindergarten kids that were supposed to tour the Whitehouse before the Steelers appearance, but they weren’t allowed into the WH because they came too late. Kids cried and the website has a picture of Obama holding up a Steelers tshirt with this caption: “President Obama enjoys his new Steelers jersey after making children cry.” lol.
