Rush’s Strategery

I understand he really wanted an NFL team, but I can’t imagine that spending a couple weeks trashing the NFL brand is really working in his favor.

Even a flaming Nazi gasbag may have trouble filling all that hot air time.

I think this may be another of those “jumping the shark” moments when Rush’s tendency to limit himself to a small circle of supporters has convinced him that he has more of a case, and more social support, than he really does. And he also can’t help himself. I think he’s truly shocked and enraged that other republican white males have denied him a chance at the biggest boy toy of all. For the sake of his fans, and because it was done so publicly and so sharply, he has to spend a lot of time talking about it and explaining it away. But basically Rush got kicked in the face by the other white boys in the elite owners club and he has to trash both the prize (the NFL) and the other owners (by calling them nothing but stooges of the left) to make himself feel better. Expect a ton more on air crying.

He’s obviously given up on getting his team, and decided that the next best thing is to spoil it for whoever does manage to buy it. It’s an obnoxious, childish approach to life, but nobody should have expected anything better from Rush.

If Rush wants to be a part of pro sports, maybe he should ask for his old job with the KC Royals back. The current strategery seems to not be working.

It’s Rush. He will behave like this and bite the few hands that might have fed him until his morale improves. Even the NFL owners and Big Wigs knew that RL would quickly poison the geese that lay all those lovely golden eggs. They are as likely to defend his racist BS as they are likely give sky box tickets to Al Sharpton. These are businessmen, they are only and ever concerned with their bottom line. Rush was threatening that, and he will bemoan his fate until the next flavor of the week comes along. I’m betting on the Health Care Bill as it becomes more and more obvious that the Insurers are gonna get hosed-I hope.

Maybe Rush will start calling the NFL an elitist organization that uses socialist tax schemes to enrich the elitist owner groups at the expense and to the detriment of the peons who pay taxes in their municipalities. Maybe Rush will start to claim the NFL’s socialist and monopolistic way of conducting its business is harmful as an economic model and not a productive use of tax dollars.

Nope, he still thinks his fat self is going to get another piece of this particular pie. He’ll shut up about it if he has to actually attack the NFL, but he’ll keep talking about political correctness, his eternal victimhood under the Obamafascist rule, and other, less-tangibly-connected-to-big-business topics he’s used to. It’ll probably take another five hundred references to Jesse Jackson before he starts attacking the actual NFL.

Which won’t stop his followers from saying stupid things, but him? He’s too interested in sitting at the rich kids’ table to be that stupid.

The WSJ Limbloviation contains this WTF juxtaposition.

the Washington Post’s Michael Wilbon … wrote this gem earlier this week: “I’m not going to try and give specific examples of things Limbaugh has said over the years because I screwed up already doing that, repeating a quote attributed to Limbaugh (about slavery) which he has told me he simply did not say and does not reflect his feelings. I take him at his word. . . . ”
[Text irrelevant to the point omitted here]
Mr. Wilbon refuses to take responsibility for his poison pen, writing instead that he will take my word that I did not make these statements

Can someone explain how “I screwed up” is refusing to take responsibility?

Modern Liberalism, as embodied by the racist NFL, has overplayed its hand with Rush Limbaugh. Note that the sports media ignored the ā€˜boos’ when the token Mexican referee announced the first foul in the Miami game in Spanish. This is because the people recognize that this was racist lipstick on a pig as, if the NFL was not racist, it would have 70% white referees, 14% Mexican referees, 13% black referees, and the other 3% of referees would be Asians and Native Americans. There would also be 2% referees that follow the Jewish Belief System, of whatever race.

Instead, with the exception of the Miami token referee, most all of the new NFL referees are black! As are most defensive players with the occasional exception of the Safety.

People are getting tired of the racist crap lipstick on a pig. Boo.

Benen complains that Rush ā€˜compared the Obama agenda with slavery reparations’. But Rush’s assertion is true if you gather the numbers and use Arithmetic and Logic.

i was getting ready to have to say that i would start paying attention to the chargers more, learning who their players were, which is kind of like the rams to me now anyway. bruce is gone, and if limbaugh were to have moved in, i dont know …

He brought his political ideology into his sports work. That’s what happened.
He wanted to promote his views on the liberal media and affirmative action, so he used a football player as a (stupid) example. That doesn’t belong there.
That went so well he’s doing it again.
All he’s doing is making the NFL’s case. They suspected he couldn’t and wouldn’t approach this as a purely business alliance, but instead might promote his ideology, and meld his solo enterprise (hate radio) with their brand as he has done in the past, and they were right.
I think they made the right call :)

Until he comes out and specifically denies it, I will continue to speculate that he brought all that Viagra down there with the specific intent to engage in illegal conduct with children.

To not speculate, would be in Peggy Noonan’s words, be irresponsible.

And have you read what K-Lo writes about Rush? How does she reconcile what Rush says with what she professes to believe about her Catholic faith and remain sane?

I think they’re supposed to put fans in the seats and give them a good day, and everyone makes a lot of money doing it. I don’t think they have to be anymore high minded than that.

I watch pieces of sports broadcasts randomly, essentially, because so many people love sports that I inevitably watch various games, or contests, or whatever.

As usual, TBOGG makes a good point. Rush blames Sharpton, Jackson, Wilbon but oddly leaves out one of the more important voices in the debate, who said:

ā€œI myself couldn’t even think of voting for him,ā€ said Irsay speaking from the NFL’s fall ownership meetings in Boston.
Asked if he’d spoken to other owners about Limbaugh’s candidacy, Irsay said, ā€œI haven’t and I don’t think I would even go to the point of talking to Tony Dungy, Jim Caldwell, Dwight Freeney, talking to those men and seeing what their positions are. I’m very sensitive to know there are scars out there. I think as a nation we need to stop it. Our words do damage and it’s something that we don’t need. We need to get to a higher level of humanity and we have.

Irsay evicerated the shit out of Rush, but Rush didn’t have the balls to confront him about it in his WSJ op-ed because Irsay is a rich old white guy with actual power.

Put a plaquerd up instead of the Redskins game saying that they aren’t presenting this game because Rush can’t own the Rams.

    I’d LOVE to see that.

ho can’t hold a marriage together (three times divorced).

Wow, wouldn’t I love to read a tell-all memoir by one of these gals. Maybe all three could collaborate. I bet some kind of non-disclosure clause was part of their divorce settlement.

    @calipygian:

    That would be a win!

The NFL team owners definitely contacted each other about Rush. They are a close knit fraternity. They are motivated by the money they rake in during the season. RL would have been a definite loss to them.

On the other hand, no one expected anything less from RL than airing his usual hell and damnation rhetoric. Nor does one not expect the wailing from his defenders. I choose to ignore them.

Getting the menu ready for half time. Go Bills. :( Go Steelers. :)

Who would have thought being an overbearing, racist, jerkoff, asshole woman hater would somehow make a person unpopular?

    I know….it’s just mysterious.

Here’s what I like most about this story: El Blowhard has to live with the knowledge that his beloved NFL will embrace an admitted and convicted dog “fighter” (i.e. torturer/killer), but not him. And this dog killer is a black man!

I can’t monitor the drug addict’s radio show because I value my blood pressure, so does anyone know if he’s “gone there”? Must be quite a dilemma for him, having such a big fat ripe target but being unable to effectively exploit it without simultaneously validating his opponents’ criticisms.

File this in the lexicon under “The Rush Conundrum.”

Limbaugh has every right to say whatever he wants, he has every right to buy whatever he wants. BUT, other people have the right to their own opinions of Rush Limbaugh. Freedom is a two way street, just because Limbaugh wants something doesn’t mean that he has a right to complete silence from those that disagree with him. Free speech is a vexing idea for conservatives; they believe that one should have an absolute right to say whatever they want about the left, but the if the left responds in kind, well that’s just a conspiracy to stamp out conservatives from the public sphere! If Limbaugh wants to own a NFL franchise, then so be it, but realize that there might be other people in the universe who have just as much right to contest that decision.

he has every right to buy whatever he wants

if he can find someone to sell it to him.

This is not strictly true. Think Oxycontin.

Mikey N @57: Junior high? My kids acted like that when they were four. They got over it (mostly) by the time they were six. (They do OTHER selfish and childish things, but understand that sour grapes gets them nada, zilch, zero, and bupkes.)

Rush Limbaugh did NOT want to own an NFL team. NOT. Rush Limbaugh wanted MATERIAL for his show. He KNEW there would be a shitstorm from “the blacks” and “the libruls” and that this would be terrific fodder for his audience. He. Loves. This. And he got exactly what he wanted.
