Was going to bed and got greeted with this:
Someone was already in bed and I got the “but you stayed up too late” look. And for the Tunch fans, he is in the window making sure the possums and raccoons are kept at bay.
God, I love those two.

Cole,
You’re just begging for it.
Goodnight big guy. Thanks for the lolz.

Whew! Otherwise I would be too worried about your safety to sleep, myself.
What good buddies you’ve got there )

Awww. We have to keep the kitties out of the bedroom because G. is only allergic to them if they sleep on his head, but Charlotte (the kitten) is absolutely bound and determined to get in there and sleep on the Giant Couch. Every time we open the bedroom door, she tries to dart inside, and she’s succeeding a good percentage of the time.
Now she’s encouraged Keaton to join her so one of them will distract us while the other one darts in. Annie doesn’t try, but she was traumatized when G. accidentally shut the door on her paw, so she’s going to let Keaton and Charlotte do all the work and reap the benefits if they do manage to wear us down.

My furry kids are the happiest part of my life. Our animals bring out the best in us.

So, just how stupid does one have to be to want to place the GOP brand as a banner above and below ANY FUCKING PAGE IN THE WORLD. No, no, no that can’t have unintended consequences.
After 8 years of these stupid fuckers, it’s a wonder we’re still here…

Charlie is just fine to let sleep on the bed. He spoons the feet and doesn’t fidget or move around or make any noise. A prince.

Izzy, the bestest cuddle kitty evah is laying against me watching me type. Meredith, her sister, is curled up near the foot board sound asleep, right paw over her eyes.

Anyone else see Steve Young and Matt Millen doing the post game of MNF? Millen seems like he has taken one to many hits to the head. His lack of football knowledge is clear (he drafted a Wr with his 1st round pick four years straight) but he can’t seem to even pay attention to the conversation. Every time he responds to Young, he talks about something completely off topic. Why do the football gods force me to listen to this man?

I’m just waiting for the inevitable A View From Your
La-Z-BoySofabedWhatever pic shot from Lily’s point of view, with her (hind) feet kicked up to relax.Or, of course, Tunch.

All these pet photos are agonizing for me right now. My rescue kitty died unexpectedly last Friday at age 13 (sorry Keith, mine was the best cuddle kitty ever) and I’m just heartbroken.
I would seriously give anything to walk into my bedroom right now and see Shayna lying there just like Lily. I had no idea how many of my little daily routines involved the cat, and now my whole house just seems wrong. I don’t even want to walk in the front door anymore, it just makes me cry.
Give your critters a big hug for me, everybody.

Will do, ceece. I am so sorry.

Cole –
I was going to say that’s the sweetest photo of Lily ever, but there are so many, I don’t think she can take a non-adorable pic. But: is she still sleeping in a separate bed on your bed? Does she ever come out and try to curl up right beside you? Do you let her?
And, oh, the little paw up in the air. Do you ever grab it and yell “Drumstick!” (An old BF of mine used to do that… to Ariel, come to think :)
Ceece –
I’m still really raw over Ariel, so I’m right there with you.
Our memories of our critters are so sharp and clear, from the way their ears swivel towards us when we talk to them, to their scent when we bury our faces in their fur, that it seems so awfully unfair we can’t somehow reach into our memories and pull them out, young and alive again… at the same time it seems unbearable to think we’ll never get to hear or see them again.
Bless you for giving a rescue kitty a good life – for however long you could.

Speaking of puppeh stories, I found this one remarkable:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/12/14/afghanistan.landmine.dogs/index.html
I know there are a lot of people who object to these dogs doing this kind of work, however watching them play with their handlers and the success of the operation sort of makes me feel better about that. Plus the dogs are flat-out gawjuss.

@ceece: My deepest sympathies to you and your family. It’s never easy, especially when it’s unexpected. I’m shining a white light so your Shayna can have a peaceful journey to the other side. May she check in on you from time to time to make sure you’re doing all right.
@CaseyL: I left you a post on the other open thread, and my deepest condolences to you, too.
@Yutsano: That is one gorgeous dog. How ya doing, FH#2?
Cole, Lily is just too precious for words. Thanks for the update on Tunchie. I can rest easy now.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: Look through the whole photo spread. They show them from pups to adolescents to training days. If these dogs go into retirement I’d snap one up in a heartbeat.
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Will do. I love GSD (Alsatians).

Her fur is very beautiful. Kind of a vanilla/caramel with whipped cream thing going on…she’s a sweetie.
Cole, you’ve come a long way from when you first got her and posted that pic where you’d blacked out her lady parts.
asiangrrlMN
@Yutsano: Gorgeous. And, well trained. I am of mixed minds about this practice, but I agree that they are handled with the utmost care and love.
And, squee! Soooo cuuuuuute!
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: It was watching the puppies play with their trainers that really got me. They just looked like they were having fun! I agree to being ambiguous about their usage, then I remember we have this:

There is no doubt in my mind these dogs are more than mere war tools. They are faithful companions who bond to their handlers and trainers even deeper than the band of brotherhood they share with their fellow human soldiers.

I not honeymooning yet. I am on my second last day of work… trying to finish all the crap that needs to be finished (or at least do as much as possible before reaching the point where “it just ain’t going to get done”).
One more day to go, then one day to pack, then a 10am flight to Bangkok on Friday, followed by special start of honeymoon drinks here.
Tattoosydney
Agh. I’m in moderation.

Looks like a hell of a vacation. I’ll bet it’s also quite a bit warmer. Have a blast.
Oh hell, it’s summer where you are.

@Chuck Butcher:
Yes, but it’s minus 2 (centrigrade) in Amsterdam, where we are ending up!

@General Winfield Stuck:
There are scientists who claim toy dogs were ‘invented’ as safe portable footwarmers. (Who, according to the late dog writer Kurt Unkelbach, are also more attractive to heat-seeking human parasites like body lice & bedbugs, because dogs’ body temps are higher than ours.)
Then there are the historians who say that the original BEWARE OF THE DOG signs, like the famous Pompeian mosaic, did not mean ‘Warning, trespasser-eating mastiff on premises’ (that was a given on any premises prosperous enough to be worth protecting) but ‘Don’t let this household’s precious stola-dogs get out into the public road, please.’
Charlie is a fine figger of a dog, and I look forward to reading his rescue story in detail!

I wanted to let you know I am sitting here with tears of pure joy and laughter running down my cheeks this a.m. after reading this one, John.
Thank you!

@Tattoosydney:
That is seriously cool. I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon!

Is it my imagination, or is Lily starting to look as, er, robust as Tunch?

@ceece:
it’s so heartbreaking, I wish there was something I could do to ease your loss, even a little bit. These sweet creatures find their way into our hearts to a depth that is almost unimaginable before it happens to you. My heart goes out to you.

John….I’ve been wondering. What are the sleeping arrangements? All of you in the bed? Sorry if you’ve already discussed in another thread.

Belly rub!!!!!!!
That is one snugglable dog. (meaning I might dog nap that cutie ifin I was in a position to do so).

Yes, John. Per your earlier post about how despite the undeniable crappy things, life is really pretty good – this post is a sampling of that goodness. All you gotta do is look at a pet who sure seems to give a large damn about you. Merry Christmas.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Lovely. Just simply stunning. Have a great time, sweets. I expect photos when you return.
@Yutsano: Agreed. I am still ambivalent, but at least I know that they are truly loved.

ceece, Shayna would want you to take another kitty in. She is gone & would understand that you need to give some love to another deserving animal.
Please go to your shelter & I’m sure you’ll be happy you did.
Best of luck.

@cecee
I lost one kitty girl in May and will lose the other one soon (my vet says the one still here is going to skew all the stats for fibrosarcoma). It’s so terribly hard; I dreaded the first day home from work with my girl gone. But it was those little moments in the evening when you don’t see them go for a bite of food or decide to play that makes you ache for them. I still have moments where I feel like tearing the house apart to find her–it’s not rational she’s not here.
It takes time, and it is different with everyone. Don’t rush into anything another adoption until you’re ready–it isn’t fair to any involved to do that. And know there are so many of us, especially at this blog, who know exactly how you feel and ache with you. You’ll always miss her, but the hurt will lessen, I promise.
