So awesome, on so many levels. I really need to get to work on finding a Canadian boyfriend.

Yeah, the Time headline on Yahoo! is “Can Pres. Obama revive his agenda?”
Which MSM anchor is it who always uses the question mark in a negligent manner?
Sentient Puddle
Goddamnit, that 59-41 Senate Minority tag is supposed to be a joke, not hard news!

@JenJen:
I need to work on a Canadian gf, too. didn’t find any last weekend. maybe next time. While I’m at it, might as well look to the UK.

@arguingwithsignposts:
US residents can come visit for six months. Think you can bag a spouse in that timeframe?
Craig
@arguingwithsignposts:
I believe you’re thinking of The Cavuto.
Morbo
Shit, the MSM is trying to take Roy Edroso’s job.
Annie
@R-Jud:
He certainly can “bag” the spouse. But I believe US immigration regulations preclude live bags from coming into the country without a visa, unless of course he wants to put the bag between legs :)(

@JenJen: Canada just reworked their citizenship laws to make that a more likely possibility. Just, when you’re looking for your boyfriend, make sure at least one of his parents was from Canada originally.
Only don’t seal any deals until you personally validate his citizenship paperwork.

FWIW, a lot of the Latin American papers I was reading were convinced that this was a loss of a majority, too.
And so it was treated and talked about here — now that Democrats have one more Senator than they did a year ago when Obama was inaugurated.
The average voter in Massachusetts, according to one analyst I heard from there, neither understood nor cared about the ’60 vote’ thing and thought that Democrats had a majority, and would even if Brown lost, so, period.
Mark S.
Well, for all practical purposes, it is a minority. I see four things the Dems can do:
1. Do nothing. Get nothing passed. Get blamed for not doing anything despite a 18 seat majority.
2. Nuclear option
3. Pass whatever you can through reconciliation. Start forcing everything through it. Make the Byrd rule as meaningless as the filibuster rule has become.
4. Make the opposition actually filibuster. I know this will cramp everybody’s style, but ts.
The last three will obviously never happen, so 1 it is.

@R-Jud: I would hope so, given six months. But I usually wouldn’t have that much time. I need to work out a “study abroad” course for my school so I devote a whole semester.

@El Cid:
So you’re saying the average voter is actually smarter than the media. There is hope after all.

Ah yes, ‘The Cavuto’, after cringeworthy Fox News tool Neil Cavuto, presenter of such vomit-indusing headlines as “Bush: The Best President Ever?”
JenJen
@slag: Good to know. Got any leads for me? ;-)
Joshua Norton
There was a screaming headline in the SF Chronicle about how Nancy Pelosi’s seat “may be in a lot of trouble”. (after you read the article it turns out that no, it really isn’t and no, there’s no way the Dems could lose any majorities in the next round of elections).
Nothing like running around in circles hollering “we’re all gonna die” as a sign that clearer heads prevail.

@Mike G:
I like Stephen Colbert’s regular query to his guests: “George W. Bush: great president? – or greatest president?”
Brian J
@Joshua Norton:
There’s always a possibility that they could lose the House, in the same way there’s a possibility a raccoon could jump out from a tree, bite me, and give me rabies. It’s just not every likely, if for no other reason than the loss of the seat in MA will motivate people to work harder even if they feel like they are in safe territory.

@Annie:
Oh, would he be bringing her back? I thought he was planning to stay on the island for the opportunity to partake in the eeeeeeeeeevil socialized healthcare (and the pubs, and public footpaths, and the rain).
Annie
@R-Jud:
Sounds good to me. I think I will stay. By the way, I am an international development person — do you guys need any foreign assistance? Perhaps I could bring some…
Dustin
@Evinfuilt: Yeah, but the problem comes about when Congress can use the media’s “60 votes!” BS as a shield to hide behind. Anyone who thinks that they’re acting out of some sort of cowardice, and the more likely answer of corruption, should take a look at a bridge I’d like to sell.

Fresh from his upset victory in Massachusetts, Republican Sen-elect Scott P. Brown said Thursday that he agreed with suggestions that Democrats should scrap their health care proposal and start over.
…
Brown noted that as a state senator he supported legislation to provide universal health care coverage to Massachusetts residents.

FReeper heads exploding. heh

@Joshua Norton:
Yeah, I saw that. It wasn’t even the AP but Lockheed their DC bureau reporter reliably burping out the conventional wisdom.
Ahh, the Comical. Now with shiny pictchurs! and 4 days a week of Deborah Saunders’ disingenuous Republican hackery. They’re so cowed about being seen as ‘liberal media’ they have reduced a decent paper to one step above that right wing rag the Examiner which now lies mouldering in the rain by the thousands all over the City.
Got to laugh to keep from crying.

Sigh. I’m glad Canada has gay marriage because that widens my field from which to choose. Hell, I can get married for convenience like many people do, amirite?
R-Jud
@Annie:
Do you know anyone who’d be willing to fix our house for us for like cheap, or in exchange for cookies? If you can deliver that, and you’re single, I will hook you up with some young, clever, unattached men of my acquaintance.
Note: These men have Black Country accents. It’s not as bad as Geordie, but you will need a translator at first.

I’m surprised we don’t have a “Condition Brown!” tag here, though it would be functionally equivalent to “Senate Minority”.
Pasquinade
“Just so we’re past campaign mode, I think it’s important for everyone to get some form of health care, so to offer a basic plan for everybody I think is important.” He pointed out that he’d voted for this state’s health care mandate, but he saw his role “as the 41st senator” to bring the reform bill “back to the drawing board.”

Which MSM anchor is it who always uses the question mark in a negligent manner?
That’s Neil Cavuto, and the question mark used after a leading question is known as the Cavuto, as in Is Neil Cavuto’s mother a whore?*
*disclaimer. No one is actually claiming that Neil Cavuto’s mother is a whore. We’re just, you know, asking. In the spirit of honest inquiry and a spirited search for truth, because we’re really curious. She may very well not be a whore for all we know. If so, be sure to let us know so we can clear her good name, but meanwhile we’ll keep the question up on our screens.

We have pubs, and public footpaths, and rain, where I live, but I sure would like to have that eeeeeevil socialized healthcare too.

@arguingwithsignposts: And the New York Times’ headline this morning was “Obama Trying to Turn Around His Presidency.” The article started out describing Obama as “chastened and bruised” and said he began on Wednesday the “daunting process” of trying to turn around his presidency.
