Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

We still have time to mess this up!

Let me file that under fuck it.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Rush Limbaugh, who spent the last eight years fluffing C+ Augustus so much that he voiced relief when he no longer had to defend them, is now taking to Fox News attacking Obama for… not doing his own work in college and law school and that other people wrote his law review articles:

Gotta love that affirmative action dog whistle- “turn his c’s into a’s.” Limbaugh dropped out of college after two semesters of flunking every course he took .

This may or may not be true. I doubt it. But let’s say it is.

Who cares? So, he didn’t do his own homework. You know what my parents threatened me with when I didn’t do my own homework? Poverty and LIVING IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.

But Obama is President. So clearly it doesn’t matter whether he did his own work or not. He’s successful.

They Republicans are really grasping at straws here.

Didn’t Obama write like exactly one article for the Harvard Law Review?

Rush doesn’t really care what he says. It’s not like his followers give a fig about notions like “truth” anyway. It’s like calling foul on me for failing to obey a rule of The Glass Bead Game or something — I don’t know the rules, and I don’t even know I’m playing it. The only trouble really is that they insist in jumping back into real reality every now and then and screwing with it.

Yeah, Obama is black which means there is no way he could get As.

They ran this same playbook against Sonya S. Even though she won the highest academic award at Princeton and got outstanding grades in their world she only made it once she got there because of affirmative action. They can not admit otherwise because it proves that affirmative action work.

By the way, didn’t Obama not list his race on his collage applications? I don’t even think he got in anywhere due to affirmative action let alone any benefit once he got there.

Rush Limbaugh is in the position of never having to tell the truth because he has positioned himself such that the act of asking for the truth is contrary to the service he provides.

It’s like a magician. The performer stands on the stage, thumps the box, taps the sword and has the pretty girl do a spin. “All perfectly normal” he proclaims, and then proceeds to cut the girl in half.

The box could be rigged, the saw rubber, and the girl two drawfs in a dress and it is understood by the audience that of course on some level they are being lied to, but they are willing to put that aside in service of the entertainment.

In fact, if someone tried to be critical of the magician’s statements (espcially during the performance) the audience in general would turn on them.

Rush is in the same place. On some level his audience *wants* to be lied to.. and they actively move to remove anyone who would pull back the curtain.

They really think that, for example, my brother who never went to college and works blue-collar construction jobs* is actually more qualified to be on the Supreme Court than Sonia Sotomayor is because, well, just look at him! He must be smarter and more knowledgeable.

(Not that there’s anything wrong with not going to college or working blue-collar jobs, just pointing out that it does not qualify you to be a Supreme Court justice the way going to law school and having a distinguished career as a judge qualifies you to be a Supreme Court justice.)

On a related note, very little surprises me about the right wing anymore, but I couldn’t believe it after the elections when conservatives jumped on the he’s-not-bright-and-has-to-use-a-teleprompter meme. They could really do that with a straight face and without an ounce of shame after eight years of Bush? A man so incapable of thinking on his feet and responding independently to criticism that his campaign made sure he only appeared in environments surrounded by supporters? They could do this after Sarah Palin?
    __
Of course the fact that Obama is black and Sotomayor has absolutely nothing to do with conservative claims they are intellectual light weights who benefited from affirmative action, and would be scurrilous to suggest otherwise.

They Republicans are really grasping at straws here.

The birth certificate thing was a dessicated broken piece of angel-hair thick straw, and yet the GOOPers grasped it and successfully convinced most of their own core supporters and tea-baggers that it had sufficient convincing basis to fuel their attitude that Obama is an illegitimate usurper of the Presidential office, lacking even the requisite qualification of citizenship.

Now they are going after his reputation as a whip-smart intellect by not only attacking his academic bona fides, but portraying him as a shiftless and lazy usurper of law school honors he didn’t deserve either. Actual facts won’t matter. They’ll probably be able to find ONE or two conservative activists who were students at Harvard Law School during the era when Obama was there, who will claim to be familiar with his improper work habits. It will turn out, however to be indirect “I heard” or “some people say” sort of evidence on closer examination.

This academic dissing of Obama will be supported in a similar fashion to the way some Vietnam vets who are now wingers who spoke out against John Kerry’s combat service accounts, who turned out to have no first-hand experience with Kerry or the relevant incidents whatsoever; they simply knew that after he left the country he turned in to some sort of antiwar protestor/hippie, and that was enough to validate any sort of rumors they claimed to have heard about him. Will Sarah Palin ask Limbaugh to apologize for calling Liberals “Retards”

In a weird and irrational rant, Rush Limbaugh started to call us, liberals, “Looney Tunes” characters, “kooks”…etc. He said that he doesn’t understand the controversy since liberals who complained about health care reform “are retards”.

Limbaugh made it clear that he won’t going to apologize because we “are retards”. “I love the women’s movement — especially when walking behind it.”

I’m sure women will appreciate that comment.

@BC: LOL! I have a winger nemesis (one of my dear husband’s old high school buddies) who is a tenured prof there. (We used to joke he was so right-wing he was coming ’round the corner to meet himself.) I will probably not being sending him a link to your comment though. He’d probably end up finding a way for this to be a point of pride.

No challenge, no response; just a mick shoved in his face.

And if someone doesn’t stop torturing that poor Irishman, someone’s gonna get hurt. [/pedant]

My impression that the phrase “C+ Augustus” was that of Charles Pierce. If so, congrats on your taste in reading; his stuff is definitely worth savoring.

    Did anyone post this yet?

But as Bradford Berenson — a lawyer who worked in the Bush White House and served with Obama on the Harvard Law Review — told ThinkProgress, Obama did not write abundantly because he served as the editor who reviewed other students’ writings. Berenson added that Limbaugh’s charges are “not accurate”:

These charges are not accurate. As a 2L [second year law] student, Barack wrote the same amount as all of his 2L peers, although by policy of the Harvard Law Review, no student writing is signed or attributed to individual authors. As a 3L, it is true that he did not write, but that is because he was the President of the Review. Because the President does so much editing, including of all the major faculty articles, he is not expected to author original pieces himself and almost never does so. I saw Barack hunched over manuscripts editing articles on many a late night at Gannett House. He simply could not have been elected President if he was not regarded by his fellow editors as being among the best legal writers and legal minds in his class.

ETA: Had to split the quote, no idea why one is bold and the other isn’t. Ah well.

I don’t understand how Rush is thrice-divorced. It is truly one of the mysteries of the universe.

Limbaugh dropped out of college after two semesters of flunking every course he took .

Between Limbaugh and Palin, the GOP is literally the party of quitters.

    @Napoleon:

Isn’t it obvious that ACORN went back in to fixed her grades and then killed all the people who knew the real story and that they also wrote all of those law review articles for Obama? I mean, it’s sooooooooooooooooooo obvious.
