Now that the right-wing blogs have rallied around the idea that it was Lauren Valle’s fault she fell and then chose to attack that man’s boot with her head, you all know what is next, don’t you?
MOBILIZE THE KEYBOARD COMMANDOS! FULL-ON COUNTERTOP INSPECTION REQUIRED?
Which one of the rightard blog cretins will be first?

“The Other McCain” seems to be first out of the box, and well in the lead for fascist-apologism.

Actually, the video I saw at

showed what could have gotten nasty very quickly.

Also, when did granite countertops become the sign of high class living? I kind of find them ugly and gaudy myself…
Or is it that in the cookie-cutter suburban-asteroid-belt-around-rotting-Southern-cities where these guys live having granite countertops is what sets you above the rest?
Svensker
T.O. McCain also got a good “if those guys weren’t actually liberal plants” slipped in there, too, just in case the “both sides do it” thing doesn’t work.

These misbegotten creatures will come up with excuses for just about anything up to and including genocide. Water is wet, the sun rises in the east, and right-wingers are violent thugs.

My whole family has granite counter tops. My uncle carves tombstones and gives the scraps to his siblings. Who knew I was so posh?

But it’s the liberals who refuse to accept personal responsibility. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said so.

@SapphireCate: The Real Amurkins who discovered Graeme Frost’s granite-looking (how would the guy looking through the window know?) countertops surely just have a hose and a bucket for a sink and a loading pallet on cinder blocks for a countertop. ‘Cause, you know, right wing bloggers are all impoverished farmers.

At what point do we start thinking about defending ourselves from right wing violence?
Just putting that out there.

Everyone needs to relax.
My Republican brother-in-law in TN says this isn’t the first time something like this has been staged. I mean, let’s be honest: he’s right. The masterminds who faked Obama’s birth announcement in those Hawaiian newspapers 48 years ago would have no problem faking this video too.
Come on people, use your brains.

@celticdragonchick: As much as your post was ment to be partially tongue in cheek I’d like to reply with a small (and hopefully non-snarky) comment.
The minute we start differentiating between “right-wing” and “left-wing” violence we are applying a political label to the situation. I agree that you need to identify a cause to form a proper repsonce, but there is also a need stay focused on the main issue.
How do you defend yourself from violence in general.
Go to polical events in groups, be aware of your surroundings, know how to defend yourself?

No sh*t about the right wing blogs. Since this is the first I’ve heard of this incident I googled Valle’s name and ‘Extreme Conservatives’ was one of the first sites up. At first glance I thought it was a parody of wingnuttia. Sadly, no. Consensus there is she certainly got what she deserved cause she’s a ‘paid far-left activist’. (Far-left is a term applied with Tourette’s-like frequency on this site.) And she thinks things like the BP oil spill was kind of a bad thing, which obviously is a crime to these folks.
I can just imagine what these idiot’s first reaction to that chick who carved a ‘B’ in her cheek back in 2008.

The stomper was an ACORN agent.

During the summer before the vote on Health Care Reform. Some guy staged a one-person counter demonstration against the people agitating against HCR.
Some people said he had no right to demonstrate for more accessible health care because he was prosperous enough to have granite countertops in his kitchen. Somebody peeked through the window, I guess.
General Stuck
@celticdragonchick:
Well, yea. the middle class Neanderthals were stuck with those, but the upscale ones could afford granite kitchens. Early banksters, I suspect.
Culture of Truth
yeah I recall the countertop story. 3 years old, tho.
Omnes Omnibus
@SpotWeld: CDC’s use of the term “right wing violence” is apt here for a few reasons. One, the current discussion was prompted by an act of right wing violence. Two, the vast majority of violent rhetoric in US politics is coming from the right. Three, given the general sympathies of most people who visit this blog, I tend to doubt that they would be in any serious danger of being the victim of left wing violence should any occur. Four, any talk of violence in the political arena without identifying the motivation and ideology behind it simply allows a “pox on both your houses,” both sides do it reaction from the media. It should be made clear who is operating within the rules of the system and who is willing to step outside at the drop of a hat.

@Dennis SGMM:
There’s a school of thought (which I don’t personally subscribe to) that they already did that back in September of 2001.

@Omnes Omnibus: I conceed your point, and was only speaking in the specific instance of personal defence. If you start focusing on a single source of potential attack, you risk becoming vulnarable from another direction.
If I’m among friends at a left-wing event and two of them get into a violent fight over sports teams I’m at risk as an bystander if I fail to be aware of the situation around me.
As for the discussion of the incident listed above, blame should be placed where it belongs. Right now I have a short video clip, about a paragraph of text from a local news website and a lot of blog chatter. So I reserve further comment until I’m better informed.
Michael Carpet
For all the humorous and satirical comments, can we just say what is obvious? Joe the Stomper is simply a coward. Say it again — coward. The video has good images of his face; the police should have no trouble identifying him and charging him with assault and battery. Chicken sh*t.

@Dennis SGMM:
Nah, they don’t really need a fire/excuse. 1. The NSDAP didn’t have Fox News, and was forced to handcraft their justifications the old-fashioned way, and
2. We’re well past the point where any sort of real justification is needed. As this episode points out, “everybody knows” that liberal/union/NBB thugs are routinely assaulting God-fearing Real Americans, so the justification is already there. Every one of these attacks that gets glossed over by the news outlets like this leads to an escalation the next time. We’ve gone from threats and “isolated incidents” to explicit campaign violence in just a year and change. A bombing or shooting that will be blamed on the liberals may be desirable, but at this point, it hardly seems necessary.

I won’t complain about that fact. My point was and is that some right wingers respond to political positions that oppose theirs with violence. The violent rhetoric is certainly elevated this year, and people shouldn’t be surprised when this happens, and it’s going to be worse locally where wingers do badly, and I think nationally it will be worse if they do badly nationally.

Blue Bluegrass has a couple of good photos of Lauren Valle’s tackler.

And this blog has good photos of both individuals. So, theoretically, it should not be too difficult for the police.

He hasn’t entered the countertop phase yet, but Jackboot Hoft is already on the case (beware: fascist catholic site):
All that about stalking, lunging, and harassing? He just invents that, safe in the knowledge that his readers will just assume it’s true. If you go to a public debate between two candidates for Senate, you’re a “stalker.” If you try to talk to a Republican candidate, you are “harassing.” If you are thrown to the ground and have your head stomped on, you are “lunging.”
And if you are Jim Hoft, you are a fascist scumbag.

I agree with you — it’s just that I hadn’t seen anyone correct the initial reports that the power was toxic when it (fortunately) turned out not to be.
Because it’s fairly difficult to, say, buy anthrax or build a working bomb, right-wing violence is going to come in the much more direct form of bullets and fists.

Shouldn’t have worn the wig. People who wear wigs are trying to hide something.
No wig, no one trying to pull it off. No falling down, no setting someone up to step on you.
I can’t blame Paul supporters of trying to stop someone, who looks suspicious and is in a disguise, trying to get close to their candidate.

Gene108 says “I can’t blame Paul supporters of trying to stop someone, who looks suspicious and is in a disguise, trying to get close to their candidate.”
Oh, come on! There is a huge difference between “trying to stop” someone and stomping on the head of a woman pinned to the ground with her head on a curb.
Admit it — it was cowardly and wrong. Full stop.

@Randy P:
Actually, he made a wonderful Bill ‘O reference by saying “shot themselves between the head,” proving that the snark is strong in this one (though he missed the fact that ALL CAPS DAY was last week).
It just occurred to me that John McCain’s “That One” remark in that 2008 campaign debate may have subconsciously come from Star Wars’ “The force is strong in this one” line. It was, I’m sure, not thought-out at all (it’s John McCain, after all), but it could have been a reaction to Obama’s personal “force,” that mana he exhibits, that caused McCain to call him “That One,” instead of his name. Or John McCain is just a forgetful, angry old man. Occam’s razor, anyone?

Events like this are only appetizers for what will follow. I will say it again, it is choosing up sides time, and while that has been the case in our civilized venue for getting along this country, the abject partisanship is about to get worse in Congress with this election. Whether the wingers take control of either chamber, or not, they will win seats from our conservadems, and replace them with hardcore wingers. Thereby further purifying the ideological rift on both dem and repub sides of the isle.
Nothing much will get passed that could be considered pragmatic remedies for our huge problems, that are about to get much worse with the boomer train arriving at the station. A positive feedback loop of blame and instransigence and more blame will take hold, and spiral the country into crisis. When all that is left is politics by other means, and curb stomping will seem like an act of love. I am a natural optimist, buy by gawd I cannot see any way out of this nations current straights into civil unrest, short of some national calamity from outside that pushes us together. If there is something I’m missing, please say it somebody.
