Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Republicans don’t trust women.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I forgot to ask-the Ontario provincial election. How was this bad news for Obama?

Looks like the primary season is going to be …interesting.

Florida moved its primary to Jan 31, and in response South Carolina has gone for Jan 21 and Nevada for Jan 18, and of course Iowa and New Hampshire will be before that. However, under the GOP rules (which Florida breaks) no state except the first four can hold a primary before March 6, so unless other states are going to follow Florida’s lead, there will be a five week gap between Jan 31 and March 6.

To the poutraged left (firebaggers) & the pretend left (teabaggers), who were trolling here about how “Obama stabbed Tammy Duckworth in the back”, read this from that “stabbed in the back” woman and weep.

    @amk:

No matter what Romney says in South Carolina today — and we have no way of predicting, since his past positions clearly mean nothing

    Ouch. Go Tammy. :)

12 UK banks downgraded by moody’s.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/business-15211230

The reason ? They are unlikely to get gobinment bail-outs.

And of course, the downgrade did not “reflect a deterioration in the financial strength of the banking system”.

    Criminal motherfuckers.

    @eemom:

Hello dear. Things have been a little busy, but I have a few days off so I’m going to be in a whirl of posting, particularly as I promised AsiangrrlMN a story.

    How are you?

tomorrow is my last treatment – it has been an experience I would have happily lived without.

Have not been sleeping well for a couple of weeks now & even the oxycodon is not helping.

@amk: My bank here in Europe just got shut down. It operated in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg, and the respective governments have taken the bank over, recapitalized the three new banks, and operations continue without a hitch. No branches closed, no employees fired.

The shareholders were completely wiped out, overnight. I don’t think they have officially fired the executives or the board of directors yet, but they all work for the government now.

    That was refreshing.

Edit for clarity – I did not own the bank, just did my banking there. But as a taxpayer I suppose I am one of the owners now.

Daniel Drezner’s Twitter feed is the awesome right now. Possibly more appropriate posting for Erev Yom Kippur later. You guys have been warned.

Great to know the banks are now in safer hands and stricter regulations.

Anybody else get their George Soros award notification? This was in my *cough*spam*cough* email:

Hello Dear you have been selected/qualify for Grant sum of $900,000.00 payment for human growth, Business and Community Development in the ongoing GEORGE SOROS Empowerment Award established in 1983, supported by EBID Bank and SANTANDER Bank.

    Whoohoo!

I just bought Florence + The Machine’s Lungs album (at only 2 years old, that’s basically a brand-new record by my standards). And I’m really enjoying it. The two songs that got radio play are obviously standouts, but the whole thing offers diverse sounds and some pretty rich arrangements. Great drumming.
