Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Finding joy where we can, and muddling through where we can’t.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

WVU wins the Orange Bowl, 70-33. They scored more than WVU’s basketball opponent this evening, Rutgers, who lost to the WVU hoops team 85-64.

I may not sleep tonight. And while some of you mock the Big East, WVU is 3-0 in the last three bowl appearances, winning the Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls, beating the SEC, Big 12, and ACC champs, and scoring a total of 156 points.

Suck it, haters. You don’t know what you are talking about.

And they got almost half of those total points tonight. It is far, far too late for me to try and convince you that the SEC is the superior conference. Anybody who believes otherwise would defend the rape of nuns.

@flukebucket: You’ll get no argument from me. The SEC is hands down the best conference in football, almost semi-pro. My point is that WVU can hang and the Big East can put out good teams.

My best pal is a WVU alum and rabid fan, so I got into watching them during college circa 2003; while they’ve had their ups and downs, I have to say that the Mountaineers have routinely been the most exciting team to watch. Pat White and Steve Slaton were electric, Geno Smith is nasty, and Owen Schmitt used to gush blood from his helmet… even prior to him smashing it against his skull.

In more important sporting news, the Indian bowlers were even more pathetic today than they were yesterday, failing to record a single wicket before Clarke showed some mercy and declared at 659-4. Australia has already picked up two wickets, so it’s looking as if it’ll be a moral victory for India to force the Aussies to bat again.

It is a great day to be a Mountaineer!

My father often hosted his whole family at WVU bowl games, and we saw some great wins, like the Peach Bowl victory over South Carolina in a mud field in Atlanta, and some great losses, like the Fiesta Bowl when Notre Dame dislocated Major HArris’s shoulder.

But this is a wonderful night to be a West Virginian, even those of us who graduated from Marshall. I was inoculated with Blue and Gold as a very young boy, and attended MU because it was within driving distance. I always root for MU, and I always root for WVU.

I just hope Dana H. sticks with us, and that the transition to Big 12 Football goes smoothly.

    Let’s GO, Mountaineers!

Never, never, never leave WVU with a chip on their shoulder. They’ll fucking bury you if you do.

Lets face it, WVU’s been schizophrenic all year, and I hope to God and the Flying Spaghetti Monster himself that we improve our kicking game next year because damn, guys….but when they bang, THEY BANG. Even when we got blown out by LSU, we still managed to push their D in a way I can be bitterly proud of in retrospect.

The very least you can say about WVU is that they’ve always gone to BCS bowls knowing that they have a point to prove to those who think (with good reason) that the Big East’s automatic berth is there to deprive a better team further west of a big night out. They never fail to show up, and this was the most lopsided bowl result of the year.

As for the cricket, Pup probably didn’t want to surpass the Don’s 334 against such filth; Hayden’s 380, the highest Australian Test innings, was against Zimbabwe, and it frankly looks embarrassing on the record books.

    Cricket explained to an american

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out, and when he’s out, he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.

When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in, goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out, try to get him out, and when he is out, he goes in and the next man in, goes out and goes in.

There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game.

No. Baseball pretty thoroughly passed cricket in popularity by the late 1860s, which gives it more than 140 years as the solid leader. Unless you’re going to include pre-Revolutionary America in your definition of the USA, that gives baseball the solid edge. Even if you do, it’s not clear which game was more popular in pre-Revolutionary America, especially if you want to make arguments about town ball being a form of baseball.
