How do I find the Billmon, Poorman, and Steve Gilliard archives?

I’d kill for the posts from the Poorman apologizing for talking about the size of Tim Russert’s head.

    I saw the Driftglass memorial to Gilliard, which had some links off links, but sadly it was ‘slim pickin’s’.

    Some Gilliard:

    Until this moment I did not know that Gilliard was black. Goink.

    @Svensker:

    I got the same Poorman link from Google, tried the site search for “Tim Russert” and couldn’t find anything on head size (or anything else useful). There needs to be a “curated” archive somewhere (wishful thinking).

    Steve Gilliard died five years ago on Jun 3. This link is a good source for his writing:

    groupnewsblog.net/2007/12/writings-of-steve-gilliard-101.html

    I imagine him rallying the “fighting liberals” right now to move on from WI and fight harder than ever. Steve, from 12/3/03:

    It is time to stop looking for an accomodation with the right. They want none for us. They want to win, at any price. So, you have a choice: be a fighting liberal or sit quietly. I know what I am, what are you?

    @Svensker: just tried this link-I’m at work- and the Vz LAN denies me access, reason “Proxy Avoidance”. It also denies access to Pharyngula as something like “Partisan Site”, but I can get to the Vatican website, and Bill Donohue’s Catholic Crybaby site.

    Plus, that Poorman site only goes back to Jan. 2008, and a lot of the goodies were earlier.

    Maybe try wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://thepoorman.net/ for the earlier Poor Man stuff.

    Billmon was epic. His analysis of politics through Apocalypse Now and Catch-22 totally legend and spot on. His commentors were great too. I don’t know why he stopped blogging. I think he posted a couple items on Dkos after he shut down the bar. But haven’t heard from him since. I think his career got to be more important than blogging was.

    @Burnspbesq:

    Much worse than I had imagined.

    I didn’t read it, but considering his famed prescient post declaring the death of Obama’s candidacy on Sept 12, 2007, nothing would surprise me.

    It’s odd how so many “leading” bloggers emphatically said Obama would never win the nomination. You would think self described liberal minded people would have been at least open to the possibility. But no.

  24. 24.

    David Koch

    June 8, 2012 at 3:45 am

    @David Koch: Let me add, Stoller’s campaign obit is hilarious.

    1) he predicts bringing Oprah on the campaign trail would be a losing strategy.

    2) Obama would never be able to cobble together a coalition of youth, minorities, and liberals.

    3) Obama is an elitist (sad given Stoller went to Harvard)

    4) perhaps the funniest bit: declaring Obama had the worst internet strategy of all the campaigns.

    5) that obama is lazy and is on CPT Time.

    6) screams that obama doesn’t use the bully pulpit

    7) Obama won’t return his phone calls (OMG!)

    Stephen Colbert couldn’t write satire that funny.

    Steve G. usta answer all comment questions personally. At least that was my experience. Driftglass is a graduate of Steve’s Commentariat University and started his blog at Steve’s suggestion. Last I looked, Mr. James Wolcott’s blogroll addresses Steve’s original blog (I occasionally refer to his take on European Colonialism which was pure genius).

    Billmon is also sorely missed.

    Wish By Neddie Jingo’d get off his ass and start up again. Also his brother Bobby Lightfoot.

    So late to this party that this probably will never be read but man do I miss Steve Gilliard. What a mensch. And yes, he was always there in the comments sections responding, somewhere on an old computer of mine I have saved a bunch of them. I miss Billmon’s and the Editors’ blogging too but I was gutted when Steve was taken from us. RIP my blogging friend.
