Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

The lights are all blinking red.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

People are weird.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Look- when even otherwise decent people like James Joyner are lying through their teeth, all the concern trolls are worried about the new tone, and the wingnuts spend the entire day doing trying to spread rumors about Obama replacing Biden with Hillary with shit like this:

There is only one thing to conclude. They are scared. They are afraid. They have an unelectable ticket of Gekko/Galt, they know their ideas have failed, and they are freaking out. I played lacrosse for two decades, and when we got up by a goal or two, we knew what we had to do next. Keep scoring, and strangle the opposing pricks. When we went to the national championship club, not NCAA), our average score was 19-2. You start to enjoy the soft crushing sound when your foot is on the other teams neck. So much so, you just keep pressing, keep passing, Keep body checking and throwing them to the ground, keep de-cleating them and sending them flying, and stick checking like they insulted your grandmama, and, most of all, you keep scoring.

This election is not in the bag. I want to see that thermometer at 30k by this time tomorrow.

Goal Thermometer

You know what you have to do. The Obama team is fighting like you all have claimed you wanted to see Democrats fight. Reward them.

Of course they are. It’s election season.

We could have used a little of this fighting spirit in the first three years, but you know…bipartisanship or something…

We kicked in to the actblue account last week, but I am giving serious consideration to making a sizable donation directly to Obama in the name of the greedy book beater who has been soiling my inbox for too long. He called me insane for supporting Obama (he’s a gold hoarding paultard), so I called him a christian fascist, and he really went off the deep end. Letting him know that his name is associated with “Bomomma”(sic) will be delicious.

Honest question: Does the “Replace Biden with Clinton” meme exist, in any context outside the fevered imaginations of Beltway insiders desperate for a “Democrats in disarray” story? Because it makes no sense to me, not even as a thought experiment. Obama’s been stomping on Romney’s throat for a good month now, showing amazing resilience for a POTUS presiding over 8.5% unemployment. Why on earth would he suddenly panic and switch his Vice President two months before the election? Where are all these whispers coming from?

Didn’t play lacrosse but I did box.

When the other guy is weak, you pummel him. Cheap shots, illegal shots, keep hitting while you are being pulled away, just try to murder him. Crack his fucking ribs, break his fucking jaw, if he’s bleeding pound him there till it sprays and blinds him. Push the line on illegal hits to the point where they will throw you out. Whatever you do, don’t let him regain his legs, don’t let him regain his breath, don’t let him set the tempo again. Just kill him.

Since JC started the sports talk, I’ll go with another.

Murder one guy to defeat the rest. It sounds sick but tear one dudes fucking head off, hospitalize him, and everybody else that get’s into the ring with you will be off your game. Bloody them. Make them fear you.

Lastly, play the long game, if you can’t win the match you’re in try to cripple the guy. Go for an injury you know will linger long enough the next guy will take him down, and when you see him again break that rib again.

Reid boxed as well, he knows the game. All conception of fair goes out the window once you tap in. I’m glad the Democrats are learning the game. In boxing you can win on points, or you can maul them. The crowd loves the latter and it helps you in the long run.

*There are times you don’t fight like that, with a friend or a respected opponent. But if you’re getting into the ring with a random or a jerk, take em out.

    @@Spaghetti Lee:

Honest question: Does the “Replace Biden with Clinton” meme exist, in any context outside the fevered imaginations of Beltway insiders desperate for a “Democrats in disarray” story? Because it makes no sense to me, not even as a thought experiment. Obama’s been stomping on Romney’s throat for a good month now . . . Why on earth would he suddenly panic and switch his Vice President two months before the election? Where are all these whispers coming from?Spaghetti Lee:

Yes, it makes sense when you realize it’s coming from people like John McCain. It’s a puny attempt to bring out the inner PUMA in order to sow dissension among Democrats. They stirred up the PUMAs last time too, but now this ploy is little more than a shadow of its former self. Remember all those FDL types in 2008 swearing they would rather vote for McCain than Obama?

OK, now Romney/Ryan have jumped the shark on Medicare. They are promising to restore the $700b that was cut as part of Obamacare and then not cut anything for 10 more years. Their supporters follow their lead and describe this as saving Medicare.

That sounds like a really good plan considering it’ll cause Medicare to run out of money in 2016 instead of 2024.

There are no words for how incredibly mendacious Romney and Ryan are on this issue. How does anyone take them seriously?

    Great bumper sticker.

    Logic check.

If the GOP team is “unelectable,” then the election is in the bag. So, I’ll go out on a limb here and opine that the Right Wing extremists are electable — in the good ol’ US of A.

If the idea of a McCain/Palin (gag) administration was scary (and it was…very), then the idea of Romney/Ryan is utterly horrifying.

I’m going to vote for Obama and I’ll will volunteer soon, if I can get my health in order. But I’d love to have Obama replace Biden, someone I’ve long despised and whose choice in 2008 I found very disheartening. I simply can’t discern any good argument for a Biden vice-presidency. At least not one in which he’s allowed to speak.

When the ball finally goes in the goal, half of them are on the ground–not because you flattened them, but because they lunged clumsily and you are no longer there. Love it.

    Fuck your revisionist history.

When Republican proto-wingnuts took over the House in 1994, Clinton folded like a cheap house of cards and gave them nearly everything they wanted. And then he claimed credit for it and pretended like it was all part of the Democratic agenda. He ticked box after box off the Republican agenda, mangled what it means to be a Democrat more than it already had been, and set us up for the failure of the George W Bush years.

When Republican wingnuts took over the house in 2010, Obama tried to find common cause with them but instead of just giving them everything they wanted and taking credit for it like Clinton did, he stuck with pushing the center-left agenda that he was voted in on. It may not be the agenda I particularly like myself, but it certainly isn’t the U-Turn that Clinton took after Republicans took over Congress in ’94.

So fuck that. Clinton was a huge disappointment after the Republicans took the House in ’94. Obama has been easily a far better President at the helm than Clinton was given similar circumstances.

When your opponents and those sympathetic to your opponents start telling you who you should have on your own party’s ticket, I just have to laugh at this fruitless concern trolling.

I, for one, fucking love Joe Biden. He’s learned a lot in the past four years about controlling his tendency to blurt. This chains business–there’s no sense trying to be reasonable with frightened unreasonable people. They’re so panicked they’re left with having to make up shit and take clear statements out of context. “No, no–YOU’RE the racists!” Riight.

Yeah, it’s the way the static is distributed (it fades out on the edges) and where the margins are set on the center smaller text. It sort of highlights/draws attention to everything but the giant letters on the edges. I think that sort of thing isn’t worth raising in the general public since the GOP salivates at the opportunity to yell “race card” and engage in white victimhood/grievance politics, but I wanted to see if it was just me who it jumped out at.
