Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

I really should read my own blog.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Let there be snark.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

John wanted me to remind everyone that if you are seeing an old version of Balloon Juice, hit shift-reload, in other words, hold down the shift key and click the icon that’s a 3/4 circle with an arrow in the 10 o’clock position. The location of that icon is somewhere in the URL bar, depending on the browser you’re using.

I’m not in charge of the site rebuild but I’m helping out. We haven’t really started yet – the goal is to get the design done, migrate to a new, faster server, and once we’re on the new server, iron out the configuration issues.

Is there a fix, or a work-around, or whatever to the site not seeming to remember the name/email details on the comment fields? It’s hardly the end of the world, but it is annoying to keep getting the ‘fill in your name, you dumbass’ error page.

Clearing the B-J cookies didn’t seem to make much difference.

OT, but reading about KY-Sen, it sounds like the people who are most likely to torpedo Ashley Judd are Kentucky Democrats who are scared of being seen as too liberal or associating with a ‘carpetbagger’.

Seriously, WTF is wrong with these people? They have proven they can win state-level races, but they’ve sucked ass at the federal level for a long time. Maybe they should take a punt and be willing to stand behind a native daughter who’s done good. It honestly seems like they hate the prospect of a Judd candidacy more than the prospect of making McConnell spend millions and possibly lose. The polls have been pretty clear that no one likes Senator Turtle…and it’s not Judd’s fault that the rest of the KY-Dem establishment is pretty chickenshit when it comes to deferring on the Senate race over the governorship in 2015.

And people wonder why southern/Appalachian Democrats are eventually going to fade away – they’re more interested in protecting their shrinking fiefdoms than in expanding the playing field. Goddamn cowards.

Though always conservative socially, Kentucky used to be a working class labor dem state to a significant degree, but has gone to the dark side in recent decades. Too much religion and southern butthurt, are likely to blame. Along with the cheap thrill from waking dreams of being hounded by government agents morning noon and night.

@dmsilev: WordPress is supposed to set a cookie once you’ve commented and remember it. I don’t know why it isn’t.

To be honest, the current configuration is a bit of a mess and I don’t want to spend time fixing it when we’re migrating in a couple of weeks. But if the new config continues to cause this issue, I will get to the bottom of it. It makes more work for front pagers, too, because every “new” comment has to be moderated once so WordPress accepts it the next time.

I did the shift/reload deal and it looks the same as it always has. Except for the last few days my username/email does not persist in the Reply area (as mentioned above).

What ARE the changes in the new site? Maybe I’m expecting it to be more different.

BTW, the updated reply with quote code I sent does have one minor issue. I tried it with a few different themes. Some it worked just fine out of the box, some the reply button came up in a weird place, some it didn’t show up at all. If any of those happen, find

    .yarr a { cursor:pointer; float:right;}
    .yarr img { vertical-align:-2px }

in the plugin and add your own styling rules.

Can someone tell me why the fields under “Leave a Reply” won’t repopulate anymore as of a week or so ago?

My name and email address used to stay there but now I have to retype them (actually my browser puts them in once I type the first letter) and it’s annoying if you want to send more than a few replies.

    What can I do?

This is happening for practically everybody and apparently there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.

I have tried clearing cache, cookies, temp files and sometimes my nym/email will show up for a bit but then it disappears again into the Twilight Zone.

Hopefully the site rebuild will fix it but…..we all know how that goes. Let’s all get ready to bitch and moan!

This doesn’t have anything to do with the site, but my new laptop sometimes loses wireless like every 5 or 10 minutes. Is it possible it’s on some stupid setting or something? It’s Windows 8, and I’m not used to playing around with it yet.

@Mike E: Greasemonkey doesn’t work on firefox mobile. I haven’t tried tampermonkey on chrome mobile.

There is a chrome native version that doesn’t require tampermonkey, but I haven’t updated it since cleek started supporting tampermonkey (and because my main reason for making it was to add a ui for adding names and cleek did that better than mine did). No idea if it will work on mobile chrome, but I may try it later today.
