Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

“But what about the lurkers?”

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

This fight is for everything.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The Official Movie of Balloon Juice

Last night after watching Lincoln I was not ready for bed, so perused the Netflix offerings, and watched what may be the greatest movie ever made. If you have not seen it and have Netflix, drop everything you are doing and watch the film God Bless America. It very seriously is a highlight reel of all my murder fantasies and quite possibly the best social commentary since Bob Roberts.

Time for the Pens.

If you’re interested in more, Bobcat did a HBO special last year that was hilarious.

And, while I’m at it, here’s Pat Lang’s latest masterpiece”

This is the second time that rebel mortar fire has struck the center of Damascus. In this case the bombardment killed a number students.

The MSM in the US is uninterested. Given that it is the policy of the United States to destroy the present Syrian government and replace it with one desired by the islamists in the ME; Turkey, Saudi Arabia, etc., this is not surprising.

In any event the BHO administration has influenced the media to support its campaign for gun safety, gay parity, etc. These priorities serve to focus attention away from th oming Islamist government in Syria. pl

@Corner Stone: Well, their coach said that he was “speechless” after the Illinois game because the Illini played the best D they had seen all year. I don’t know if the physical nature of the game took a toll or if Marquette is just better than them. Remember this is supposed to be a super team having won both the ACC tourney and regular season. Illinois was a middle of the pack B1G team and gave them everything they could handle. Draw you r own conclusions, maybe they just are not that good. On the other hand we beat Indiana, Ohio State, Gonzaga and Butler.

God Bless America quickly became one of my favorite indie films of all time last year. It is so smart and so disturbing. You can’t just shake it off and it will make you angry. I’ve written a ton about the film in the past few months. Here’s my full review which really goes into the revenge vs. shock value aspect and why the violence had to go as far as it did to sell the satire.

It’s an amazing polemic of a movie, and I’ve watched it half a dozen times.
But, much as I genuinely love it, it is a bit derivative of the far, far, far, far superior Super. Super is challenging in its occasional eruptions of stark brutality, but it’s such a rich work.
    And it has Kevin Bacon.

    @Redshirt:
Julius Caesar has joined the cast, as an officer under the new bad guy, Crassus. So if you think Spartacus and his crew are going to roll him over, you might want to think again.

This is the final season of Spartacus, so I don’t think it’s a matter of “Who is going to die?” but “Will anyone be left alive?”

  55. 55.

    YellowJournalism

    March 28, 2013 at 10:19 pm

@The Red Pen: “No” is the answer to both of those questions, although it is a funny and disturbing-in-a-good-way movie. And I think the ultimate message is one that condemns the violence but is screaming for people to quit bein assholes to each other.

  56. 56.

    Redshirt

    March 28, 2013 at 11:04 pm

@Jay in Oregon: It’s funny, since of course I know what happens to Spartacus, so I guess I can’t be spoiled properly.

I’m more interested if the show is still “balls to the walls” as the previous seasons. Also, and perhaps more importantly, have they kept the sex scenes going?

  57. 57.

    Jay in Oregon

    March 28, 2013 at 11:17 pm

    @Redshirt:
Yeah, I know what happens too.

And yes, both straight and gay sex scenes are still present. The violence is really making use of the slow-mo “bullet-time” effects, moreso than I remember from the previous seasons.

(I still think that Sam Raimi could have blown the minds of Xena fans who were shipping the Xena/Gabrielle thing if they’d gotten Renee O’Connor to play Lucretia’s female companion, Gaia, from season 1 instead of Jaime Murray.)

  58. 58.

    Redshirt

    March 28, 2013 at 11:23 pm

@Jay in Oregon: Poor Gaia. She was so much fun! What a shock her demise was. This is one of my favorite shows ever, but it’s the character moments that define it, not the broader story. Which we all know about.

They used the slo-mo violence trick quite a bit last season if I recall. Remember the Spartacus versus Gannicus fight at the temple? Half of it was in slo-mo.

  59. 59.
