The “working” dogs are at it again:
I couldn’t use the flash; that would have been mean.
What are y’all up to this holiday weekend? It’s BBQ and baseball as usual for us this weekend, but on Tuesday, hubby and I are actually going on vacation for the first time in years. Seal Team Six has agreed to watch the kid, dogs and chickens.
David Koch
Obambi’s speech was a complete failure.
Not once did he address whether Bradley Manning should be the Grand Marshall at the upcoming San Francisco gay parade.
Not once!

First Cole goes Galt and now you announce vacation plans. What do expect us to do?

On Memorial Day Monday, the Yankees are playing the Mets.
It’s a big, inter-city rivalry.
Is the game on in the afternoon, when the whole family can watch it?
HELL NO!!!
The @$$hole Lord’s of Baseball (TV channels) have determined that 7:05 is a great time to start a holiday Baseball game, even though school is still in session, and the kids have to go there on Tuesday.
I think I’ve seen maybe a handful of World Series games over the past 10 years – I just can’t stay up that late anymore, even though I’ve been unemployed for the last 3 years.
And don’t get me started on the NBA Championship games, which begin at 9!!!
It’s no wonder the NFL rules. Because most of their games are in the early or late afternoon on the East Coast. And the Super Bowl starts around 6:30 here.
Of course, none of this matters if you don’t live in the Eastern Time Zone.
Betty Cracker
@JPL: We’ll, I don’t plan on going off the grid altogether (unless I can’t get a proper signal in my beach bungalow). I may have MORE time to waste online since I am pigmentationally constrained from joining my husband in fishing all day long…
JPL
@Betty Cracker: Have a wonderful vacation, however you choose to spend your time.
Baud
@Betty Cracker:
White women can’t fish.
Baud
@David Koch:
I disagree. Obama moved the Overton Window to the left with that speech.
TooManyJens
My daughter woke us up half an hour before her alarm this morning because she’s so excited about her trip to Arizona. It’s sweet, but OMG, I’m so tired.
David Koch
@Betty Cracker: be a perfect time to meet with your lover, when your ball and chain is away fishing.
Linda Featheringill
@Betty Cracker:
And you spontaneously burst into flame when in the direct sunlight. I understand.
Todd
@Baud:
They do seem to have problems putting worms on hooks, don’t they?
Todd
@David Koch:
Nicely played.
David Koch
@Baud: why should we care about Ovaltine?
Betty Cracker
@Linda Featheringill: I am a pale, freckly thing who can get a sunburn in a bank vault.

@Baud:
If you give a white woman a fish….
Suffern ACE
I’m heading to the MD, PA, WV region for a baby shower. More out of spite than a strong conviction or curiosity.
Baud
@David Koch:
I actually hate the Overton Window, but my snark might not have been clear.
David Koch
@Suffern ACE: you’re a chick? I though you were a dood, an old one, but still a dood.
Baud
@Todd:
They’ll put your worm on a hook if you’re not careful.
David Koch
@Baud: well, Ovaltine’s window isn’t so bad, it has a decent chocolate taste, especial with mini-marshmallows
Todd
@Betty Cracker:
That’s why they make big floppy hats and long sleeved rash guards.
NickT
@Todd:
She could probably get a reflective burqa, if she really wanted to…
Suffern ACE
@David Koch: it’s 2013. I am a dood and so are both the baby’s parents.
I’m also just prematurely crotchety.

I’m spending the weekend getting ready to leave the country for a couple of weeks. Need a haircut and a few travel things. Gotta get ahead of the yard work so it doesn’t completely get out of hand when I turn my back on it.
Weather’s supposed to be nice, so maybe we’ll take Doglius Maximus out to the park.

Have a good time!
Fishing is not a hang-out activity anyway. You are either there to fish, or you become bored out of your skull.

@Ultraviolet Thunder:
Uhm…
If you’re leaving, why the hell are you coming back? :-)
I’d leave this too-large-to-be-an-asylum country in a nanosecond, if another country would let me stay there.

I just finished watching The Loving Story, about Loving v. Virginia. Remember when the Supreme Court did the right thing unanimously? Good times.
Soonergrunt
Sleeping in, unpacking and moving in, going to go to the shelter where they took care of my boy and drop off some cell phone chargers, and going to open a bottle of champagne that we bought to celebrate buying the house, and then a bottle or three of something else.
ETA–(what does that mean, anyway?) The President will be here on Sunday. There will not be an opportunity to see or meet him, as I understand.
Crashman06
If the doctors are right, my son will be born this weekend.
Betty Cracker
@Crashman06: How exciting! All the best to the baby and parents!
Betty Cracker
@Soonergrunt: ETA = Edited to Add.
WereBear
@Soonergrunt: Glad you are making it okay, and that all your family is safe. (Saw earlier posts to that effect.)
Shakezula
@Suffern ACE: Bring a sweater.

I’m going camping in Utah. The hubby and I moved to CO last year and haven’t gone anywhere. Now, instead of driving two days from Ohio, we can drive 5 hours down I-70! I am so excited!
We aren’t staying the whole weekend. We have new Arrested Developments to watch.
Shakezula
Supposed to be cool this weekend because we’re having the oddest damn spring in memory. Not that I am complaining because it could easily be 90 degrees with matching humidity. Lots of people have left town but tourists might make up for the slack.
Maybe we’ll take the latest vehicular acquisition out for a long spin. Or determine if the inflatable kayak we bought used actually floats with people in it.
Soonergrunt
@Betty Cracker: Thanks!
Crashman06
@Betty Cracker: Thanks. He’ll be our first, so we have a lot to learn!

@TooManyJens: Awesome — make sure she brings that hat and sunscreen, it was already in the 80’s when I got up this morning.

@Todd: I appreciate your insight this morning.

I got a Groupon to a local hotel, so we’re going one city over for our “vacation.” Which sounds a little silly but, hey, two nights in a deluxe room at a nice hotel in Pasadena (with a heated pool!). With no cats. And someone else to straighten it up and make the bed.
dexwood.
I’ll spend six hours Saturday hawking my folk art at the local Growers’ Market (my 12th year), but mostly I plan to do little else but read, watch movies, and drink IPA as I continue to recover from a nasty car wreck eight days ago. Damn red light runners! And I mean a light that was seriously red before I entered the intersection.
IowaOldLady
I’m going to WisCon, a feminist science fiction convention. I’m making Mr IOL go too.
Yatsuno
Yay first furlough day! Taking advantage by getting out of town until Monday night. FY Repubs, I’d rather have the money.

@Mnemosyne:
I love Pasadena. All those lovely mountains.
Maybe you will see Diamond David Lee Roth (and his cattle dog?)

@Betty Cracker: Attention pale white folks! Here’s some cool SPF 50+ clothing, here: Coolibar
As a skin cancer person, I’ve bought a lot from them, and love everything. Especially the light weight pullovers that are still SPF 50.
As for this Memorial Day weekend, I am in year 2 of the End of the PSYCHOBILLY FREAKOUT WEEKEND. For 14 years I threw a party this weekend, but that ended last year because everyone is old, or has kids, or moved, or is just stupid and boring. So no more bacchanalia.
But this weekend in Maine, it’s a good thing! What a miserable forecast!
vheidi
@c u n d gulag: word. Also too, why are our friends having a cocktail party Monday evening?

Tomorrow I’ll be at receptions all afternoon. It would be nice if it were 70 and partly cloudy as originally forecast, rather than 51 and rainy. Then on Sunday I get to sit outside wearing a polyester-and-velvet robe for 3+ hours listening to 785 names being called. Monday I will be collapsing.

I got a pass to the Sacramento Music Festival. Heading in today to take some pics.————————————————————————————————————— whoops, meds kicked in and I feel asleep mid type.

@DFH no.6: My husband is mostly of Polish descent with a dash of Italian, but he lucked out and got the Mediterranean sun durability. My ethic background is Irish, English and Scandinavian, so I pretty much glow in the dark. Luckily for our kiddo, she got her dad’s complexion.

Philly for lacrosse. Weather meh. No rooting interest (Tiffany, 8 years in and not 1 decent f/o man recruited!), would like to pull for Denver but Tierney is the biggest whining SoB I have ever seen. The assistants coach, he works the refs the whole game.

Always love the boxer pictures. Adorable.
