Tomorrow our nation celebrates our independence from tyranny and oppression. In our humble beginnings, our great nation sought freedom from intolerance and our undeniable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In this spirit, we currently hold 166 detainees at Guantanamo Bay, of which 106 are currently on a hunger strike. Continuing our fine tradition of religious freedom, we are celebrating Ramadan by force-feeding our political prisoners detainees by after sundown. You know, out of respect.
Of course there are four detainees that are suing saying that the force feedings unnecessary as 3 of their 4 clients drink enough liquid nutritional supplements to make the force feeding an unneeded trauma. Lawyers representing the 2 Algerian, Syrian and British Saudi detainees have released a statement from Syrian prisoner Nabil Hadjarab:
I do not want to die, but I am prepared to. … I am doing this because I want to know my destiny, I cannot abide not knowing anymore.
Can you taste the FREEDOM?
Also on today’s #TWiBRadio, we discussed a 12-year-old girl kicked off of the football team for an awesome reason (17:00), crippling loan debt (45:00), and a look into modern music and why it’s awful (01:30:00).

Why do you hate America and Obama for noting we are still torturing people at Gitmo. I bet you are a Greenwald fanbois and voted for Nadar.
And yes, jackasses, I know Obama is not to blame, before you all go fucking apeshit. This is solely on Congress and the American people. Obama’s done everything he can to end Gitmo.
Cacti
Elon, did you notice the liberal Kevin Drum of Mother Jones calling the POTUS a “Chicago thug” today.
But he meant it in a totally ironic hipster way, and there’s no such thing as white privilege, just ask John Cole.
Baud
@John Cole:
Obot.
Villago Delenda Est
Yeah, but at what point does the President, head of the executive branch and commander in chief of the Armed Forces, take responsibility? His hands ARE tied on Gitmo, by Congress…which is exactly what the framers seemed to intend. I don’t think they envisioned Congress being dominated by lunatics, though.
srv
@John Cole: We need Congress to lead on this issue.
cyntax
I suppose it’s time to engage my congresscritter’s staff in another long, tendencious conversation. If I have to put up with DiFi, her staff is going to have to put up with me.
Southern Beale
Read this and weep. About time somebody blew the lid off the abusive temp agencies. Y’all will love that 60s era Kelly Girl ad, too.
Cacti
@John Cole:
Cole, we all know that you and Greenwald both loved ya some Dubya.
muddy
How the fuck does Greenwald come into it for the christ’s sake? I know Gitmo also starts with a G but aieeee

150th Anniversary of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg.

@John Cole:
It’s a good thing you reminded us that your head isn’t ALL the way up your ass. We might not have known otherwise.
Lavocat
I will be celebrating the holiday by burning the Constitution, eating more than my fill of baked beans, and whistling Yankee Fucking Doodle Dandy out my bung hole.
‘Murca! Fuck yeah, ya morans!
Lavocat
@John Cole: Oh, man, I soooooooooooo call bullshit on you for THAT nonsense. SOLELY on Congress??? Really now. I think I know who’s smoking Tunch’s catnip.
raven
Delta is ready when you are.
Gian
@Cacti:
Greenwald so loved Bush’s spying he wrote the “how would a patriot act” to support the patriot act, right?

I mean seriously the dude is often a tool, and supported Iraq but seriously, he pretty clearly turned on Bush.
John Cole
@Cacti:
Yes, because I have kept it such a deep, dark secret. Practically no one knows. I’m a vast mystery wrapped up inside an enigma.
Let’s get this over with once and for all. Find me another blog that has been around this long, not sold out or moved on to a corporate site, and still has every single post and every single comment available (and we are going on twelve years- hell, find me more than a handful of blogs who have been running that long). Every fucking stupid thing I have ever said is right there for everyone to throw right back into my face.
Additionally, from day one, I have kept an open comments section. People can say pretty much anything they want, and I let them. I have never once banned someone for disagreeing with me, and in fact, some of the people who disagreed with me the most have front page privileges. Hell, the best troll I’ve ever seen who mocked me for years, DougJ, is one of the most prolific front pages.
So fuck you. I’m not hiding anything or running away from anything. No one else I know has as openly chronicled not only his political twists and turns but the various random bullshit experiences of his life. I know I voted for Bush twice. I hate myself for it. But I have never hidden it.
Cacti
@Gian:
Yes, what a feather in his cap that he only supported that semi-literate buffoon through 2006.
raven
@John Cole: Off Pat Lang!
Keith G
@Top:
Why yes I can. It’s more diluted than I prefer and has a very acetic after taste, but comparably it still a pretty good deal.
@raven: That spot on the Gettysburg battle ground is one hell of an intense patch of earth.
raven
@Keith G: We just watched Lincoln, good way to mull it all over. My bride is from Appomattox so that was an interesting moment too.
Mike in NC
@John Cole: I was at Gitmo in ’82 for RefTra prior to deployment to the Persian Gulf. At the time it only had a Baskin-Robbins and a McDonald’s at the NEX. But the beaches were nice.
MikeJ
@Mike in NC:
My dad hated it in the 60s. No room to maneuver the carrier and they had to make a downwind cat shot to stay out of Cuban territory.
raven
@MikeJ: My old man loved it when they’d fly down there from Norfolk but that was before the revolution.
Cacti
@John Cole:
No, more like a fall down drunk recently converted to the world’s most obnoxious teetotaler. You have a good blog when you’re not playing the dancing monkey for the Greenwald organ grinder…which is damn near every day of late.
Keith G
@John Cole:
The problem John is that there are some here who can never stand to see that which they support exposed to a critical evaluation. Their ego structure is such that any questioning of their functional assumptions is seen as an outrageous attack.
Recently you have questioned a few of their assumptions, so Cacti and others come after you personally. It’s very third-grade playground, but it’s what they do.

You appear, at least superficially, to be a bright, educated guy, Elon. You could probably earn a good living pretty much anywhere in the industrialized world.
If America is such a fucking horror-show, why haven’t you left?
Yeah, we have our faults. Only an idiot would deny that.
We’re the worst fucking country on earth. Except for all the other countries.
You vote for America every morning by waking up here.
Cacti
@burnspbesq:
Burnsie whitesplains to Elon how good he has it.
Love it or leave it, man!
The prophet Nostradumbass
@burnspbesq: you’ve said a lot of stupid things, burnsie, but that really takes the cake. Racial patronization coupled with “America, love it or leave it” bullshit.
You last sentence is pretty funny, too, considering the way you act about the Catholic Church.
TooManyJens
@burnspbesq: What exactly is wrong about pointing out the ways in which America’s conduct fails to live up to America’s ideals and its image of itself? Especially when the people shitting on American ideals are usually the first ones to wrap themselves in the flag. I think a little bitterness about that is just fucking fine.
Odie Hugh Manatee
@John Cole: “And yes, jackasses…”
I do like the fact that you are aware of the kind of people you attract. :)
Odie Hugh Manatee
@burnspbesq:
Offering your enlightened opinion again Burnsie? Why that’s mighty white of you!

I love America. Really do. But the country has done a ton of wicked things. Name it! Slavery, genocide, nuclear war, apartheid, the list is quite long. But hey, lot’s of good too.
Pointing out the bad does not negate appreciating the good. And America, today, is without doubt a better – more moral – country than at any other point in its history.
ruemara
@Odie Hugh Manatee: emulate. ftfy.
And, burns, that is the perfect example of a true loyal apologist. By the way, pedicabo ego vos, a poem from me to you for that truly stupid diatribe.

Well, except for the 27%. They’re nucking futz.

We are really ruled by psychopaths. I can’t believe this. Keep Christians in prison cells floored with wooden crosses so they can’t stand up without stepping on the Cross.
Yastreblyansky
@John Cole: God love you, as Joe Biden would say. You are speaking the truth.
Another Halocene Human
@burnspbesq: Stay klassy, burnsie.
Another Halocene Human
Elon, waaaaaah. *whinewhinewhine* It’s my day off. It’s a holiday. I don’t care about fireworks, I just want to catch up on shit. Don’t want to think about Gitmo. Isn’t that for work days? :(

“Our”? You know that most of “us” (blacks) who fought in the Revolutionary War did so on the side of the British, right?
