So in a development that stunned NO ONE, the members panel found MAJ Nidal Hassan guilty on all 13 charges and specifications of premeditated murder and 32 charges and specifications of attempted premeditated murder. MAJ Hassan did not put on a defense case. Nor did he question any of the government’s witnesses. During his opening statement he said “I am the shooter.” Also, SSG Robert Bales, having plead guilty to multiple counts of premeditated murder and other charges, thereby avoiding the death penalty, was today sentenced to life without parole for the murders of 16 Afghan civilians last year.
Proving once again just how batshit insane he is, my junior Senator, Tom Coburn recently said that he considers President Obama a friend, and that he has no idea what if anything the President might have done to warrant impeachment, but some of the rumors on far right websites and blogs are perilously close to impeachment. Remember kids, he’s the honest one.
I am going to see The World’s End and Kick Ass 2 this weekend. Or I’m doing laundry. Probably laundry. What plans do you all have?
Just Some Fuckhead
25th Wedding Anniversary tomorrow.
Today: Laundry and editing a stormwater treatment engineering report. After lunch.
Tomorrow: Birthday party.
Sunday: Sounders game.
me and the youngest are home alone this weekend, so its fast food and anime most likely, male bonding time…. we may also talk about the joys of cleavage but also give due time to tushies, legs and eyes. Then we’ll clean house and do laundry before Mom gets back.
Well I want to see The World’s End too.
Is that grounds to impeach Obama?
Camping trip next week!
@Just Some Fuckhead: You are a big old softie. Congratulations to you and Mrs Fuckhead. Planned anything special?
The court needs to resist the urge, an urge I must admit would be very hard to resist, to sentence this asswipe to death.
Deny his martyrdom. Nothing worse could happen to him or those who subscribe to his sick creed. Let him rot in supermax for what I would hope would be a really, really long time.
Elvis night at U.S. Cellular Field tonight — White Sox vs. Rangers. Taste of Greece along Halsted Street in Chicago’s West Loop all weekend. Rooftop BBQ on Sunday dinnertime.
@Just Some Fuckhead: My third is today. Being married has been a fucking ball; my wife is the best.
Congratulations on 25, and I hope I get there!
I want to be at the March on Washington or at least planted in front of my tv watching the entire thing, but no, my friend Jackie had to go and turn 50 tomorrow and I am co-hosting her party so I’ll be at it all day until late tomorrow night. Did I mention I think a tooth is going bad and there is no emergency dentist in Memphis? Hopefully the tooth will be ok til I can find a regular dentist on Monday. I wanna see The World’s end sooooo bad, maybe Sunday.
replacing a water pump on an outboard.
drinking. [prolly 35]
Finally saw Elysium last night. It’s been a long time since there has been decent progressive social protest science fiction in the theaters. This movie mad up for that.
learning tumblr. Been lurking on tumblr for the longest time, very impressed with what some people are doing. Then I start my own tumblr blog, follow people, and discover that all the design they do doesn’t make it to my dash. Mystified by this, because I thought the dashboard was the key to tumblr.
Last morning in Hawaii…just went snorkeling and saw a bunch of sea turtles, now just catching some rays. Aloha indeed
Hoping to see The World’s End this weekend. Seems the perfect thing to do before the Fall term starts on Monday.
@Just Some Fuckhead: Congrats!
Counting the hours until kickoff and doing a low-country boil for the garden club Sunday. Of course, shrimp prices have skyrocketed so I’m trying to figure out how I get the most bang fer da buck.
My mail carrier for the last 10 years is transferring to another town after today. Gun nut, Rush listenin, harley dude who has been as nice as he could be to us and our dogs. I asked him if he thought he’d have any left-wing Nam vets on his route in the granite city, he just spit and laughed.
Just checked my facebook and the whole neighborhood is saying bye!
Speaking of Kick Ass 2….I had to take a friend to an evening medical clinic last week and, unbelievably, the clinic had decided that The Hangover would be a good video to play in the waiting room. It was agony.
Seeing The World’s End tonight, and maybe going to the art museum Saturday.
@celticdragonchick Thanks for the recommendation. I may see that next week.
It didn’t exactly blow me away, but I liked how pointed it felt. The whole premise of the 1% actually “going Galt” at last in the grandest way imaginable (but still expecting the 99% to do all the actual labor, of course). The douchebag supervisor telling the protagonist that he doesn’t realize how lucky he is to have a job in a sweatshop at all. The obvious references to illegal immigration and lack of health care. Definitely a movie for our time.
Saw Kick Ass 2 last weekend. I found it very meh. Initially thought it was because I never read the comic, but my friend who saw it with me was a fan of the comic and had the same meh feeling about the movie. Sounds like we should have gone to see Elysium instead.
@Just Some Fuckhead:
Congratulations! Did you get something silver for Mrs. Fuckhead?
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
This afternoon: office picnic – the higher-ups are supplying the meat and alcohol, but it’s in foggy, windy SF, so we’ll burn off the calories shivering.
Saturday: schlep the offspring to violin lessons, then 112 loads of laundry.
Sunday: our 17th wedding anniversary, which we will celebrate by taking the offspring and several other 10-year-old boys to a Nerf Dart shooting gallery and then feeding them pizza and cake. We’re so fucking romantic. Also, offspring’s actual birthday was 3 months ago, but we suck at basic parenting.
Yay open thread! Twin Cities meetup tomorrow, 5pm at Shamrocks. Which reminds me, I need to call them. Crazy busy day today, y’all.
Cleaning my house. Getting ready for a garage sale next weekend. I would like to do some cooking, but I don’t really feel like doing too much of that until we get our new dishwasher, which is going to have to wait until the following weekend/paycheck.
I really want a vacation. Usually, I am a big active sightseer type, but I just want to sleep and get spa treatments and spend time in dark, quiet rooms.
Two weeks until my 2nd Half Marathon (9/8). That means I get to run 11 miles this weekend. It also means I get to eat like 4 meals that day and nap a lot.
@Just Some Fuckhead: Congrats to y’all on 25 years of the Fuckhead union.
Our family is doing a staycation at the local cas1no with the best pool so my preggers wife can float for a few days. I shall play some hold ’em and savage some buffets.
Bloggy blog post from the Shuffle series which brought up Foals today: http://ranchandsyrup.com/2013/08/23/shuffle-up-and-deal-11/

We’d save more lives banning rap music than guns — not that I am for either. Just sayin’. Culture, culture, culture.
Aaron Worthing @AaronWorthing 12m
I do suspect that if gangsta rap was never invented, Trayvon Martin would still be alive (bc he wouldn’t’ve attacked an armed man)

Reposting: will he get a dishonorable discharge at the time of sentencing? I want to see that creep out of uniform and into an orange jumpsuit ASAP.
Do we really need any grounds beyond blackity black black and Democrat?
Going for a run through Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Then I’m probably going to spend the evening drinking beer, cleaning my house, and watching “Breaking Bad” re-runs (I have just started watching the show. Still in Season 1, so no spoilers). Hopefully, I won’t have to duck any bullets: it’s been a bad few weeks of murder and retaliation in the ‘hood.
Also, i would be remiss if I didn’t post the latest Piggie of the Week, which I produce over at Woodshop Films. It’s the School Reform Commission, for the second week in a row. The state-created crisis in the Philly School District is rapidly spiraling.
Also (via Wonkette) interesting negligence/breach suit by an Orange County GOPer vs the National GOP. He wants his LSAT prep paid for and law school covered and between 50M to 90M. http://wonkette.com/526506/disgruntled-republican-sues-gop-for-50-or-90-million-a-law-school-education-a-secure-boarder-and-a-meeting-with-meghan-mccain
@Chat Noir: Amusing choice of a theme night going into the Civil Rights game at the Cell tomorrow.
@Mike in NC: From the conversation on Manning I think he stays E-1 until he dies or gets out and THEN gets the DD.
Taking my turntable to Brooks Berdan Ltd. for a new motor. I listen to a lot of vinyl, and my VPI HW19 JR is what makes it happen. They’re great folks, and I will consider my weekend complete when it’s back in my system and the tunes are flowing. Los Angeles county juicers who might be audiophiles prolly know it. Brooks died a few years ago, but his son is now at the controls, and doing a great job.
@Just Some Fuckhead: So you’re celebrating 16 happy years together?
(Sorry, it’s an old joke from my bar band days.)
Wow! Two movies in one weekend. You must be a Rockefeller or something (no, that’s not snark).
I’ll be dieing multiple times as both a spy & a merc in the new SplinterCell Blacklist. Because apparently every opposing team I play has all the best gear & knows the 4 day old maps intimately. It’s a true WTF.
@ranchandsyrup: The whole lawsuit reads like it was a mashup of Time Cube and Birchers.
Good. Give him life. Deny him his martyr’s end.
Laundry is on task for Sunday, with the kitchen scrub most likely Saturday. And possibly cookies.
@Haydnseek: Haydnseek, we were talking about our shared appreciation for The Kinks on the ‘Open Window’ thread a while back. I wanted to tell you I went all-in and bought a CD box set of their Arista albums. I’m starting to play catch-up on their later stuff. Favorite so far is Misfits.
We just celebrated our 25th as well .
Hard day, flying back from MDA, better half’s remission is definitely over and all that is left is a clinical trial – he’s on the wait – list for it. Going to spend the weekend hanging out together and might put a dent in that liquor cabinet. One of those times it’s nice to have all of these pets!
Saw Elysium last weekend – a little violent for my tastes, but pretty good.
Cleaning out the fridge of things my parents left behind during their trip here. Running, lifting, putting in a stone patio, and gardening.
Then working on pay-job stuff, so I’m ahead of the game when I have surgery on Wednesday morning.
@imonlylurking: I’m planning on being there.
This evening’s plans: Get a ride after work to the auto shop where an oil change morphed into $600 worth of brake work. Hello credit card debt.
Going out for a scooter ride after the cats get their dinner. Fun and cheap and the weather is insanely nice here right now.
If Major Hassan maintains his strategy of not putting up any defence at all, will that get him the execution he presumably wants? Or in that event might the prosecution decide to seek life without parole instead, thus forcing him to actively argue for capital punishment?
@gbear: Great to hear from you! The early Kinks material is so good that the later Arista stuff might seem to suffer in comparison, and sometimes it does. I saw a photo in a music magazine from the mid/late seventies where the Kinks were on tour in America and wearing all this SoCal western drag. They looked like the Eagles, if the Eagles were from North London. Dedicated followers of fashion indeed. Keep listening. A band this good does wonderful things just by being in the studio when the “record” light is on………..
That’s some serious derangement. Not that I think that should keep him from winning. But it also sounds like he may be incarcerated at the moment.
I think you are correct. I think he has to stay in the military till his sentence is fulfilled otherwise he can’t be held in a military prison.
Oh, and before I forget: congratulations to Just Some Fuckhead and, um, CONGRATULATIONS!
@Ruckus: The gooopers sowed the wind and now they’ll reap the whirlwind of morans.

The VPI is nice gear.
My old Thorens turntable needs a new cartridge. That’s not this weekend’s plan, though. I’ll get around to it, but my old Denon CD player (and 89.3 WPFW) will keep the music going in the meantime.
Not long ago, I paid a decent amount to get my old monster receiver and classic speakers running right. It was worth it.
@gbear: Great-so it won’t be me there alone. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! I can’t access that email from work but I’ll read it when I get home.
It’s supposed to be sticky-humid tomorrow, so I should probably try to figure out something to do outside tonight also. The entire weekend looks gross as far as the weather.
“but some of the rumors on far right websites and blogs are perilously close to impeachment.”
So now we can impeach Presidents based on rumors? How interesting.
i’ll be wracking my brains for an anniversary gift for Mrs.
we’re coming up on 18.
I has been busy IRL so not much blogging this week, but I has bebbeh kitteh full of squee. My attempt at poetry in lolspeak.
Serves the assholes right. I don’t mind people getting their just deserts as long as I don’t have share with them.
I bought my current cartridge from Scott Berdan. Very knowledgeable and very nice guy.
Between Brooks Berdan and the Fountain Pen Shop, I have left a ton of money in Monrovia over the years.
@Mike in NC: As a commissioned officer, he would be dismissed from the service, which is the officer equivalent, since they don’t enlist, and therefore cannot be discharged.
I got 2 cans of carpet cleaning spray and several rooms to cleanup. Friends gifted me with movie theatre cards so I got to see Elysium-worth it-and we’re all going to see World’s End on Sunday. They’ve been very kind at including me in things, while not outright buying tickets so I feel very embarrassed. Just slightly. Other than the movie, I guess I will be starting the moving into my ex roomie’s space. whee.
@R-Jud: Good luck with your surgery. As soon as you are able, let us know how you are doing.
Today I learned that Canada is not really foreign soil! Amazing! Hawaii, on the other hand ….
@Tone In DC: Yep, there’s just something about vintage gear. I run an old Denon integrated amp that pushes so much current that my old Maggie MMG’s can really stretch their legs, given the relatively small room where they live. NAD CD player, thrift store rack system Kenwood tuner, the previously mentioned table, and you’ve got the all-time budget system. I wanna dance just thinking about it.
@Just Some Fuckhead: Congratulations!
The World’s End looks awesome, gonna try and drag the fiance to it.
MAJ Hassan did not put on a defense case. Nor did he question any of the government’s witnesses. During his opening statement he said “I am the shooter.”
I am still not sure if the guy is mental or not. If he is, they shouldn’t give the death penalty. If he isn’t, well, if they do give him the death penalty I’m not going to feel bad about it.
Also, SSG Robert Bales, having plead guilty to multiple counts of premeditated murder and other charges, thereby avoiding the death penalty, was today sentenced to life without parole for the murders of 16 Afghan civilians last year.
I would have been OK with life with parole, given that he plainly lost his mind. Before the other day, anyways. So Manning will get out before this guy does, and that’s good.
Proving once again just how batshit insane he is, my junior Senator, Tom Coburn recently said that he considers President Obama a friend, and that he has no idea what if anything the President might have done to warrant impeachment, but some of the rumors on far right websites and blogs are perilously close to impeachment.
After digging into it, and reading the actual papers, my conclusion was that ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ should be read as ‘high crimes and (low) misdemeanors’ and not ‘high crimes and (high) misdemeanors’. Meaning it was intended that Congress, center of all power in the original conception of the Constitution, could remove a President purely because they just felt like it. That’s why it takes 2/3rds to convict in the Senate – the House is supposed to reflect the shifting tenors of the people and the Senate is supposed to say, ‘Now wait just a damn minute’.
Given that they want to impeach the guy and they aren’t going to succeed (because he hasn’t done anything), I am totally fine with them preferring a bill of impeachment that can be laughed at heartily. It’ll keep them preoccupied. (Of course, Coburn wants to stay right with the base but not blow up the R’s so he’s actually trying to edge away from the idea.)
Or I’m doing laundry. Probably laundry. What plans do you all have?
Shoveling dirt. Giving into the inevitable and just dropping the lower crank case.
[‘I might just finish this book on Cahokia.’]
@Burnspbesq: Nice to hear from you, Mr. Burns. In a previous thread you mentioned King Taco on Peck Rd. in El Monte. It’s the closest King Taco to my house, and it is indeed great. Best to you and yours.
Took the day off to play with the sprout on his last day of summer. Took lunch to his Nana, made cookies and will strafe the neighborhood pool after meeting his teacher.
Really good last day of summer.
I plan on heading out to the Tampa Comic Con this Saturday, where for the first time that I’ve noticed they finally have it in the convention center downtown and not some aging small hotel out near the airport.
Also I plan on convincing enough fine individuals here to buy a copy of the humor-horror anthology Strangely Funny on Amazon.com so I can also get you guys to post a couple of 4-star reviews to improve the ratings. C’mon, my story contribution can’t be THAT bad…
@raven: That’s what happens. Part of her sentence is reduction to E-1, total forfeiture of all pays and allowances* and Dishonorable Discharge. The CA must order these to be executed for them to take effect.
So she will be reduced to PVT (E-1), and forfeit all of her pay and allowances going forward.** Upon completion of the sentence of confinement, she will be discharged from the Army with a service characterization of Dishonorable.
*She gets to keep all the money she was paid so far, including the pay and allowances she accrued while in pre-trial confinement when she was not allowed to purchase anything. However, she also has a $100,000 fine levied against her for violating the civil law regarding espionage. Whatever money she has will have to be surrendered to pay that fine.
**It is not unusual for Convening Authorities to waive all or a portion of the forfeitures, particularly if the accused has dependents.
No, we impeach Presidents because they’re Democrats.
The GOP just needs political cover via an excuse, any excuse will do. I’m certain if they had to the GOP House would charge Obama for not tying his shoelaces in a patriotic manner.
@imonlylurking: It may just be like a blind date with helium balloons thrown in…
A couple other people mentioned that they’s come a couple days ago. I don’t think the place will be too packed at 5:00 so hopefully we can grab an area that will accomodate a half-dozen people.
Rooting for the Dodgers vs. the Red Sox all weekend long. Tough call but the Dodgers are on an historic run and Vin Scully (age 85) just re-upped to call the games for next season (his 60th season). Some mandatory art openings Sat. Finalizing adoption of long-fostered dog Scully, on Sunday. Funny how I picked the name before my home team started winning like magic. His hair is red so I had Agent Scully in the back of my mind.
@Tone In DC:
Music Direct is a great source for audiophile cartriges.
I have a sweet Dual dd table that one of the tone arm wires is out so I’ve not listened to any of my vinyl in some time.
Maybe check out activities for the March on Washington anniversary. There is sure to be some dumbshit who needs mocking. Tubing on the Potomac if the weather gets its act together.
Does anyone know if this site has any credibility? http://www.carbonated.tv/news/bradley-manning-turned-down-lesser-sentence-to-not-sell-out-julian-assange
@Seanly: That’s because you’re probably playing a bunch of kids with nothing but free time who spend their days chugging Mt. Dew and playing video games.
Game companies need to make an “Old people with jobs and kids” multiplayer forum that asks you trivia questions about politics and the news and whether it’s better to put your money in a traditional 401k or a Roth in order to get in.
@kindness: Music Direct is a crack house if you’re an audiophile and/or music lover. We know who we are.
If this even gets past the evidentiary hearing phase, does this mean we can all sue the Republican Party of the USA for emotional damages or something?
@Amir Khalid: When Moussaoui was up for his sentencing, he actually requested death. He’s now serving a life sentence in a Supermax in Colorado I think. Courts do not take kindly to suicide or martyrdom wishes.
@BarbCat: As a Giants fan I can’t support the Dodgers but the Giants suck hard this year and the Dodgers are doing really well right now.
I’m gonna be agnostic come World Series I can tell.
@Haydnseek: You got that right.
@kindness: And I’ll throw in a plug for The Needle Doctor as a source for all things turntable out of MN.
@gbear: WE HAZ RESERVATIONS!
I put them under Tunch, so if you can’t find the helium balloons (or the blue hair, I neglected to mention that part) ask for the party of Tunch.
I asked for space to seat 10, no way that many show up but at least we’ll have plenty of room.
@ranchandsyrup: I simply can not decide if that is too good to be real or too good to be fake.
@PaulW: Lol. We can all sue anyone for anything, but that doesn’t mean our suits will have merit or succeed. It would be like that deranged plaintiff’s negligence theories but not his breach of contract theories where he asserts that he entered an implied contract with the GOP to do his bidding and get results.
But we should put together a class and pressure for a nuisance settlement just for funzos.
@imonlylurking: I’ll be the guy who looks about 5 years younger than Santa Claus.
@gbear: My roommate from college was a big Kinks fan, today is his B-day, I got to listen Misfits quite a lot. I really started to like them after about 2 years, Misfits is a really good album.
@scav: Ha! Missed that one.
You probably know this already, but Dana Scully was named after Vin Scully. And in The X-Files‘ baseball-themed episode The Unnatural, you can hear Vin Scully’s voice in a TV broadcast of a Dodgers game.

If I recall correctly, our collective lack of outrage about Nidal Hassan’s conviction is because he is black, brown, or Muslim.

I have ordered a few audio accessories online. Good resource to have when most of your equipment was made way back when. I still like to get most work done around here, especially on something like that old Thorens.
I bought that with my summer job money a loooooong time ago. Still sounds good.
@Emma: It’s Manning’s lawyer, David Coombs saying it. No reason to not believe it. Shrug.
@kindness: Hard to forgive the Dodgers of recent memory but new owners/coach/players and I’m good to go. I used to sort of love the Giants (secretly), but their tango with Barry did me in.
@Amir Khalid: I had no idea. Thank you so much for making a better informed-me.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@CONGRATULATIONS!: Well killing Ben Ladin didn’t turn him into a martyr. Very likely by the time the appeals process plays out the world will have forgotten Hassan.
@Haydnseek: I usually go to King Taco in Glassel Park, on Cyprus. I tried the one in Pasadena once, the salsa wasn’t quite the same out of the hood.
Don’t see Kick-Ass 2. Doing so is putting dollars in Mark Millar’s pockets, and that’s just unforgivable.

I like my old Denon components. I’ve got three of ’em (and two still work, even).
That aforementioned monster is 1970s era Luxman.
I’ll stop there. I could go on for hours about this.
I still have to strip the ends of some speaker cable tonight, to make nice with some new banana plugs. This will occur while the Nats are getting stomped, no doubt. At least I’ll get something done, aside from watching the guys strike out with runners on base (and the damn Braves run away with the division).
If you happen to pass by the area of Grand & Snelling, keep an eye out for a Swiss army knife I lost there in 1976.
Seriously, hope all have a blast.
Idle aside: Is Charley’s still in business in Minneapolis? Great, great steaks there back in the day.
@Amir Khalid: It is EXTREMELY unlikely that he will ever be executed, even if he gets the death penalty. Remember that once the Convening Authority approves his sentence (and may commute it to life without parole if it is the death penalty) it will automatically be docketed with the Army Court of Criminal Appeals. That court will probably reverse any death penalty due to MAJ Hassan not receiving effective assistance of counsel.
So far, not one single military capital sentence since the death penalty was reinstated in 1984 has been carried out. Several of the capital convictions have either been overturned in their entirety or have been reduced to life without parole. Just 10 days ago, The Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the death penalty for SrA. Andrew Witt for ineffective assistance of counsel.
@kindness: As a long time Dodger fan, (I mean so long ago that my dad took me to Dodger Stadium when it was nothing but a construction site, because it was sacred ground.} We never really hated the Giants. My dad was a minor league third baseman, and when anybody playing the Dodgers made a nice play, he would applaud. Some people in the stands took exception to this, given that it was a member of the opposition. My dad would always say, “that was a helluva play, I don’t care who makes it!” He was right, as there was always more than a smattering of applause for that in those less partisan days………..
@Peter: What’s wrong with Mark Millar?
I certainly hope Hasan does not get the death penalty. He wants that so he can be a martyr. My other wish, since they have so much in common & Hasan is paralyzed, They should make Bales & Hasan cellmates. Make Bales Hasan’s personal care assistant. The two could bond & share a life together. Hell, the government could even offset the cost of imprisonment by selling it as a reality show on TLC – the REALLY Odd Couple
@Tone In DC
Luxman made some killer components. Two amps I drooled over back then (but which were out of reach of the budget) were a Luxman and a Nakamichi.
Still have the 70s-era Onkyo Radian-III tower speakers.
Still adore the 70s-era Onkyo Radian-III tower speakers.
Happy 25th to the Fuckheads!
Today is my birthday.
Last but not least….eedad and I now on the way home from Charlottesville with and empty back seat. :(
@BillinGlendaleCA: Nope. Try the King Taco on Garvey at Peck in El Monte. Nobody considers it “the hood.” It’s just where people go when they don’t want to cook that day or they’re on lunch or they’re burned out hippies or they’re just hungry that fucking day so they stumble in and get excellent food. New Orleans is that way, too. I felt at home there.
@eemom: Happy birthday! Gotta be tough dropping off the young’uns at college.
@NotMax: I’m still using a Nakamichi reciever that I bought about 20 years ago (a TA-2A if I remember right). The buttons get a bit fussy on occasion but I still like it a lot. I know that ‘reciever’ is kind of a dirty word for audiophiles but it’s what I wanted back then.
@eemom: Happy birthday, and I hope your kid does well at college. Mine just finished pre-school and starts “big girl school” in a few weeks. It all speeds up from here, doesn’t it?
Did the four mile walk up Alisio Canyon Park this morning with the dog. Now that there really is a park at the canyon entrance we can get a drink and sit in the shade a minute before heading home. Golf tomorrow morning and then I think I’m going to tear out most of the garden. Squash and cherry tomatoes are about done, just eggplant, roma tomatoes and peppers still churning out goodies. I’m determined that I’m going to get back into the walking habit and stay there, lost another friend to a stroke this week.
Happy Birthday to you, eemom!
Oh hell yes. Just yesterday was her first day of kindergarten…..it was, I tellz ya.
@Haydnseek: I don’t hate the Dodgers. I respect them. But they have dashed my Giants hopes enough times that well, I just don’t like them. That and as kid growing up in the suburbs of NYC my elders would tell me about the rivalries between the two teams when the Giants played at the Polo fields and the Dodgers played at, what was it Ebbett’s field? Well the two teams are natural rivals and being that LA is the closest National League team to SF, well the Dodgers are my rivals. But more power to you. I wish you and them well. I just won’t root for them.
MusicDirect….I had ordered a few MFSL gold CD’s from them a while back and still get their catalogues. I open them up and drool. If you can find clearance stuff the price isn’t so bad, otherwise……
Thinking I better go see “Cutie and The Boxer” – people keep telling me it’s 1. terrific and 2. not unlike me and Mr. BarbCat, except I’m surely no cutie.

all in all, a pretty great weekend (which almost makes up for the fact that school starts on monday).
@eemom: Happy Birthday, and many more. Best wishes to your sprout in college. Big steps for everyone!
Mine starts 4th grade on Monday. First year to ride a school bus. Milestones!
I would welcome articles of impeachment. In fact, I think they should be voted up just a couple days before the GOP defunds the government and defaults on our debts.
Peak wingnut! I want it! We need it!
@JCT: If I’m parsing this right, it sounds like you got very bad news today. If so, I’m sad to hear it and wish you strength and hope and the very best of luck. I’ll keep you in my thoughts. (I pretty much just lurk here, but I always appreciate your comments — I’m envious that you got to hang out with Jim Morrison!)
@minachica: Ah – kind thoughts appreciated . Posted that sitting on the plane trying to parse all of this myself. The remission was much shorter than we anticipated . At least his docs are spectacular- he wouldn’t have made it this long without their efforts. We’ll keep pushing on, not looking forward to calling the kids tonight.
Hah – I have a great pic of my folks with Jim sitting on my desk at work, get some great double-takes!
Happy Birthday eemom!
Happy birthday, to you. :)
No one ever says happy 25th wedding aniverary to me. must hve something to do with having had 4 spousal units to get the 25 yrs.
He may have pled guilty to avoid the death penalty but life w/out parole is barbaric. After the number of tours he did, it ought to have been, deminished capacity or mental disease.
The Major in Texas, same thing.
When we send people to war these days not much is taken into account regarding the people when they come home. They were trained to kill, they did it, got paid for it, and then we are surprised they do it again at home or they do it in a manner not consistent with armed forces rules and regs.
If countries can’t deal with the mental health issues of their armed forces, they ought not to go to war, unless they themselves are being invaded. Its been a waste of money, time, the enviornment, and people.
Just came back from seeing The World’s End. Best sf movie of the year. Possibly better than Shaun of the Dead.
