Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Speaking of reader recommendations, was it one of you guys who linked to Songza? So far I’m enjoying its ‘curated’ channels more than I have previous excursions into Pandora/Songify/whatever, even though it does seem to crash my crappy desktop now and then…

    I believe that was me after I read it in Slate!. Which was kind of a surprise, since they’re mostly useless that way. (Now if I was an upper-middle class thirty-something in/from NYC who mostly purchased Apple products…)

    @fuckwit:

    If the crisis is as important (and as imminent) as the president says it is, then he should have just let fly, and he should have signed on with John McCain, instead of telling us that he’s going to bomb Assad to the table in Geneva, and that he went to Congress for whatever justification he’s talking about here.

    Actually, I think this is annoying. Does Pierce want the imperial presidency, or would he like it curtailed? This really falls as “damned if you do/damned if you don’t” and Pierce should not be pushing that. Some things are tough sells, and since no one I know of can actually predict the future, you go with what you have and how you think the world will act.

    FDR and Wilson both thought that the wars in Europe were worth fighting in, but would not do any direct involvement without approval.

    @Belafon:

    Good point. Obama is in a damned if you do, damned if you don’t position on Syria. Really it seems that no matter what he does/did in this situation, he’s fucked, while Russia who is vetoing even bland statements condemning violence in Syria, doesn’t pay any price for their behavior in the international community.

    There is no doubt in my mind at least, that if Obama wasn’t pushing for military action against the regime, the villagers and congress critters would be clamoring at Obama to punish Assad, calling him an appeaser, and breaking every Goodwin Law known to man and calling Obama as a coward who refused to stand up to human rights atrocities.

    I actually feel slightly (and I do mean slightly here) for SC; I watched the game (my Nephew has a connection to WSU sports) and USC doesn’t have a QB. How a major conference D1 team doesn’t have at least 1 capable QB is stunning. It will be a lonnnnnnnnnnnng season for them.

    @Yatsuno: Beating U$C is always a big deal, but since half the kids who play Pac 12 ball come from Southern California, it can’t hurt recruiting. I’m stoked. I haven’t seen a WSU defense carry the team to a win in about a decade. The secondary is still dicey (and probably won’t be tested hard until Stanford) but the front seven is really good, and I like the freshman Brown at corner. All we need now is a quarterback.

The good news is, that might be the best pass rush we deal with all year. The bad news is that Stanford and Oregon are still to come.

    You can preorder the album that song is from on iTunes. Or, if you’re appropriately enterprising, you can download it at any number of pirating sites. It’s not as good as ArchAndroid, but it’s surprisingly varied – ranging from 70’s soul, to funk, to 90’s R&B and further – and as with her previous work, it’s deeply rooted in a love for old school and new school black music forms. Most understated about her talents are the contributions her concept albums make to Afrofuturism. She’s not just a musician, she’s one of the few female artists actively contributing to a branch of science fiction. It’s a theme and aesthetic you can see her playing with in this far more musically representative and interesting track (which could easily be the feminist anthem of the decade):

    Janelle Monae is one of those musicians that just seems to elude mainstream critical and commercial success. The awards shows and the general population alike just aren’t embracing her like other artists when everything she’s doing is so on trend without being derivative or banal. She is the real deal and something’s going to click some day. I’m predicting she’s going to get that one inescapable crossover hit like MIA or Jill Scott and be set for life.
