Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

In my day, never was longer.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Thinking the Eers lose this one 56-3. Going to be a bloodletting, I am afraid.

Could be. Never know until the game is played however.

Wazzu – U$C is a night game. So I don’t have to be disappoint just yet.

Clowney is getting completely neutralized in this game. The Cocks have a solid squad, but UGA is systematically taking them apart.

Agreed. I meant that the scoreboard is a lot closer than the game has been, with UGA playing top-quality football pretty much every snap and SC having to scramble to save themselves from themselves too often.

I may be a bit biased, because all the commentariat this morning was pooh-poohing the notion that UGA was in the same league, and I love an underdog that comes out of the tunnel with all its fundamentals on display.

@Infamous Heel-Filcher: Well at least Mark Richt doesn’t have to hear the baying of Dawg Fans for a week, if they win, I hope Raven’s blood pressure comes down. Michigan-Notre Dame has two more series left, that is a shame, thanks to the creation of these super-conferences.

I took my dad to last year’s Trojans home opener vs. Hawaii. He’s been a Trojans fan for 50+ years. That was his first game.

Tonight’s opener brings back many of those memories. Good times, though technically I was in enemy territory since I roll with GoBlue. I didn’t sport my colors then, but I am today. I just hope the Wolverines can pull off a win tonight.

Only adds to the degree of difficulty in getting home safely from the Coliseum (read: it should be bulldozed, but that applies to most of the USC campus).

It is great that SOME teams are playing actual opposition this early. My hat is off to the Gamecocks for knocking heads with two local and worthy teams in the 1st two weeks. These BCS teams that play patsies should have to deduct these games from their record or count them as a loss.

Me too. ND’s strength right now is in its DL, and U-M’s OL is inexperienced, especially in the interior. But this year, we’ll get to see a U-M QB who is a better fit for Al Borges’ offense. He had two picks last week, but I’m hoping that was just rust. I don’t see 6 like Robinson gave up last year.

Strictly speaking, the Colosseum is in Exposition Park, not on the USC campus proper. And it’s a National Historic Landmark, which makes knocking it down difficult. Might I suggest taking the Expo Line if you want to get out of there quickly?

@Infamous Heel-Filcher: Again, I wonder what all the hype is with Clowney (other than him knocking a guy’s helmet off after going unblocked on a play last year). He may be a beast, etc, but there’s just no way he deserved the amount of features that ESPN and BleacherReport devoted to him (i.e. “Clowney flips a blocking sled”)

EDIT: Let me correct myself and say there is a way for him to deserve the amount of features – he gets a fake girlfriend who fake-dies of cancer.

I have to admit that I am addicted to my on demand channels, I absolutely hate adverts and so on demand is ideal for me, I can fast forward through the ads and watch my favorite shows ad free. I have been looking for episode 6 on youtube and so far BBC has managed to keep it hidden. Dammnit.

Michigan-Notre Dame has two more series left, that is a shame, thanks to the creation of these super-conferences.

What I think most people don’t know is that they’ve played less than 50 games against each other (this is #41 tonight). They didn’t play at all between 1943 and 1978. I’m a Michigan fan, and it’s been a big game for most of my life, but I have to acknowledge that ND has deeper rivalries with USC, Army, Navy, Purdue and Michigan State.

BTW, Devin Gardner wearing #98 is great.

Broadchurch was so fun. I streamed the whole series illegally after I read that the finale was the most tweeted drama show in British history. (Even more than Sherlock or Who!)

    @Infamous Heel-Filcher:

I’m well aware. And before that post-WWI incarnation of the Klan, it was the WASPish attitude: It was not only Michigan blocking Notre Dame’s entrance into the conference, but also Michigan discouraging the other schools in the conference from including Notre Dame on their non-conference schedules.

Ah, good, Auburn destroyed Arkansas State. BleacherReport was predicting Arkansas to win based on running through the Auburn defense, a prediction that frankly amazed me. Auburn was terrible last year, but they still have WAY better recruiting that AS. It showed this game. SEC still won’t be kind to them, though.
