As it is after midnight here on the east coast, I am now celebrating my 10th Ellieversary. I adopted my neurotic bundle of fluff on June 18, 2004. How time flies. It is hard to get a good picture of her since she doesn’t like the attention of the camera, but here is something relatively recent.
EDIT: Knocking on wood, she hasn’t slowed down at all and still has the energy of a puppy. Most people who meet her are amazed she is that old.

With three another three federal judges confirmed today, including the two openly gay blacks:
Add to this he’s appointed more women to the Supreme Court than all of his combined predecessors, as well as Janet Yellen at the fed, as well as eliminated gender discrimination in the armed forces.
But yet progressive betters still tell me he’s a sexist
Little Boots
@MattR:
congratulations for all that.

is it wrong to wnat omnes to linger? is that wrong?

@Little Boots:
not a cranberries fan? but that was a hanging curveball in the bottom of the tenth. If I didn’t go there, it would’ve shown restraint.

@gian:
I do love cranberries.

My apartment building is on fire???
Uh, everybody is out safe and the lights are on, but it’s on my floor so I’m not optimistic.

damn, stay safe.

Enjoyed the video but .. is it me or is that song pretty much an amalgamation of melodies from New Order, OMD, and one more group from the 80’s/90’s that I haven’t quite identified yet – maybe more New Order?

Ow… Right in the Perspective…

@MattR: Happy Ellieversary! She looks like a sweetie. May you have many more happy years together.

Thanks for the comments folks. I’m back inside and other than the place smelling like burnt dog shit our unit is fine. And nobody in the whole building got hurt.
Eichler, in his infinite wisdom, decided that 8-inch-thick plaster walls were a good thing to have everywhere, so it didn’t spread from the hallway to the other units.

Kinda wrecked the hallway though.

I know this isn’t the best forum for this but I’m really happy everybody is alive right now. Existence is so fragile.
Betty Cracker
@Major Major Major Major (formerly J.Ty): Yes it is. It takes trauma or a close shave with it to remind us of that. But I guess life would be unbearably fraught if we were constantly aware of the tightrope we’re walking on all the time…

The newest hysterical news/weather people pronouncement “64 million people at risk of tornado’s today” is making me nuts!
raven
Oh no, Joe and Nicole think BENGHAZI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OzarkHillbilly
@raven: 64 million people live in trailer parks in Iowa and northern Illinois? Sounds a little exaggerated to me.
BillinGlendaleCA
@raven: Watching Morning Joe; I guess Joe and Nicole are computer experts. I should have them over to fix problems I have on my computing equipment.
Betty Cracker
@raven: The mister and I were just discussing the hurricane hysteria that grips our weather peeps every summer. I’m old enough to remember when we didn’t all obsessively track every puff of clouds that drifts westward from the coast of Africa. I sometimes wonder if the weather folks are in cahoots with plywood, generator, canned goods and bottled water suppliers…
Baud
@raven:
With all that fear mongering, they should start naming weather events after al Qaeda leaders.

@David Koch: Nice! President Obama has turned out to be the most LGBT-friendly President imho. Hopefully, by the time President Hilary Clinton gets in power, the only thing left will be passing ENDA. If she gets a Democratic House and Senate, it’s one of the first laws she should push for passage, along with immigration reform.
raven
@Betty Cracker: I had reservations on the gulf for that special snapper season in October and it got blown out by that storm that turned out not to be a hurricane.

@Betty Cracker: You might be onto something. The corporate offices of TWC and Home Depot are within a mile of each other. hmmm
OzarkHillbilly
@raven: You know why Obama arrested Khattala? Darryl Issa was just about to subpoena him.
Betty Cracker
@raven: Mmmm, snapper! Ever do any scalloping? My dad says signs are this will be an excellent season!
Randy P
@OzarkHillbilly: I think I’m going to be smiling a lot over the next two years. As has been pointed out many times, Obama is trolling the nutcase remnants of the Republican party and that’s inherently fun to watch. But he’s also showing Democrats how to be Democrats, and many of them are following that lead and unapologetically taking actually Democratic policy positions.
Plus he’s starting to put into place some significant policies, like the recent EPA stuff, since he’s not worried about re-election. And I think we’re going to see lots more of that legacy stuff.
OzarkHillbilly
@Randy P: In 2006, Karl Rove’s math drove the “permanent Republican majority” right into a brick wall. Following that electoral disaster came the Surge which was supposed to fix everything that was wrong in Iraq but in reality just proved that if you pay people enuf money, they will stop killing each other. For a while anyway. The ACA was supposed to be the end of the Democratic party for generations. Instead, it is working. Fits and starts but working and getting better. People still like SS and Medicare. They still think the environment is important. They still want their children to be educated.
They still hate bankers. And oilmen. And CEO’s of almost all stripes.
Most of all, they really don’t like being told after a life time of hard work, that the only reason they never made it is because they didn’t work hard enough. They especially don’t like being told that by people who were born with it.
In other words, what the Republicans are selling, people aren’t buying anymore.

@Betty Cracker
Am old enough to remember when we couldn’t track the storms as they built, grew, and moved.
The tendency of reportage to hyperbole over more sober warning notwithstanding, I’ll take the tracking.
JGabriel
@Major Major Major Major (formerly J.Ty):
Glad to hear you and everyone else are okay, Major Major. Sucks about the smell and other damage though – my sympathies.4
Be well.
raven
@Betty Cracker: No but I’ve read about it over in Stienhatchee!
JGabriel
@Betty Cracker:
To be fair, that was back when major damage-causing hurricanes occurred within the range of once or twice every decade or two, instead of the 3-5 per decade we’re getting with the increase in global warming/climate change.
I mean, I remember Agnes – which destroyed the homes of about half of my relatives in PA (at the time that was: 4 grandparents, a dozen aunts and uncles, and FSM knows how many cousins) – and that was a piker compared to Katrina and Sandy.
Betty Cracker
@raven: That’s a bit north of my usual scalloping grounds, but that’s where we head when the pickings are slim in our area. Bonus in Steinhatchee — you can have someone else clean them cheaply if you’re too lazy to do it yourself…
Betty Cracker
@JGabriel: Ten years ago this summer, we had four hurricanes that were either predicted to hit our area or did brush it, one of which damaged our roof a bit and knocked out our power for a couple of days. I’ll admit I followed the radar loop obsessively in 2004.

September. You know, right in between the hottest part of the summer and the midterm election. I’m sensing some keen strategizing here.

Oh, yeah, and hurricane season too!
