Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

The willow is too close to the house.

All hail the time of the bunny!

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

When we show up, we win.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Pelosi on Scalise: It’s more important that his GOP won’t pass VRA or immigration bills. pic.twitter.com/Z24MxwQLQR

— daveweigel (@daveweigel) December 30, 2014

I agree with Republicans. Robert Byrd, Al Sharpton and Jeremiah Wright should definitely not be the GOP House Majority Whip.

— LOLGOP (@LOLGOP) December 30, 2014

The time between Scalise’s EURO appearance and this story (May 2002/Dec 2014) comparable to time between Ayers fundraiser and Obama’s WH bid

— daveweigel (@daveweigel) December 30, 2014

Scalise just won his whip job & doesnt face reelection until 2016. Boehner, on the other hand, has his election to the speakership in a week

Ex-KKK leader David Duke: Lay off Steve Scalise or I’ll start naming other pols I met with http://t.co/Ub7sjOkwq1

— David Ferguson (@TRexstasy) December 30, 2014

This would be a good time for Dems to goad the GOP into passing a Voting Rights Act fix.

— daveweigel (@daveweigel) December 30, 2014

.

Good for Representative Pelosi (as Dave Weigel notes). Congress could even title it the “Scalise Voting Rights Act Amendment”…

Apart from schadenfreude, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

I am reflecting deeply on the 49ers owner’s press conference re coach Harbaugh departure yesterday.

I don’t understand why the room did not burst out in riotous laughter at some of the self-serving BS York dished out yesterday. I guess we will have 2 Bay Area football teams are pathetic losers for a while, though 49ers may take a few years to be really horrible. But, it is only football, so won’t be too bad. But probably be reminded too frequently that the 49ers owner is a schmuck.

Hilarious how he said that they can find a good new coach because they will set out on the hiring process ‘with that goal in mind’. Sure that is all it takes, you moron. Why did your team stink for over ten years, then?

Effing hilarious and disgusting press conference by 49er Bigshot.
I guess there will be a few more of those around the league, Interesting to see how many owners can compete with York for asinine football team owner performance of the year.

I would go on, but no time to write a damn Russian length novel about what a scmuck performance York turned in yesterday.
OK, I am done reflecting on it. Tired out from laughing about it.

If only Weigal was close. You see, in order for his statement to be accurate that would require that Republicans have any shame what so ever. I say they do not and they go out of their way to prove it every Fox News appearance and every Sunday Talk show.

@jl: I well remember when several European countries were suffering even worse than the US during the Great (Bush) Recession, with higher unemployment, austerity budgets, etc.

Many wingnuts pointed to economic problems in Greece and Spain and gloated about how the Euro was going to crash and have to be abolished, and thus in the process bankrupt the entire continent. Must have been a meme over at FOX News at the time.

Mr. Charles P. Pierce is usually too savvy to fall for hoax “news” stories, but fall he apparently did:

    http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/Joni_Ernst_Takes_The_Pledge

In all fairness, it is a very plausible story. I had no idea it was a fake until I started to read the comments and then checked out the source.

@kindness: Wouldn’t require “shame” on the GOPer’s part, just a sense of self-protection. #NotAllRepublicans!!! That’s why the Democrats need to keep this story churning — the Wingnut Wurlitzer wants to bury Scalise’s ‘little mistake’ as old news, move along, nothing to see here during this (traditionally) slow news cycle.

Interesting: the blogger who got the Steve Scalise scoop is the same guy Andrew Breitbart got into his “putz” argument with an hour before he died:

Andrew Breitbart — a man famed for his untamed insults and uncensored political attacks — could not have known that his last public act would be to call a 29-year-old law student from Dallas a “putz.”

“I called you a putz cause I thought you were being intentionally disingenuous. If not I apologize. @CenLamar @dust92,” Breitbart tweeted via his iPad at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Less than an hour later, the brazen commentator and conservative activist collapsed outside his California home. The cause has not been announced, but he had a history of heart problems.

Today the “putz” in that final tweet said he wore Breitbart’s insult “as a badge of honor.”

“I profoundly disagree with him on a number of issues… but you can’t deny that Andrew Breitbart had verve and panache,” said Lamar White Jr., who is in his first year of law school at Southern Methodist University.

    Ironic, to say the least.

The McCaskeys usually have the marketed cornered on being douchey owners, but you really can’t blame them for firing their coach and GM after leading an on-paper 10-6 team to a 5-11 record that was actually worse than it looks because a few of those losses were so pathetic they should have counted double.

Firing a 3-times-in-4-years conference championship participant, whose team was still 8-8 despite tons of injuries and his uncertain status hanging over the team all season, because he’s a grating personality or whatever the reason was, is unusually douchey though.

@Turgidson: Maybe York had a good reason to fire Harbaugh. I’ve read decent criticism of the ex-coach, and I don’t have all the info that went into the decision. But that didn’t mean that York had to talk like a conceited self-righteous hypocritical incoherent incompetent delusional schmuck in front of the general public yesterday.

Edit: Oh wait, York is a major league sportsball owner. So maybe that meant that he did have to make an ass of himself. They might have a code of conduct, for all I know.

Edit: I forgot ‘classless’. The more that guy talks about the need for class, the more I think the need starts with him.
