Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

If you are in line to indict donald trump, stay in line.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Trump makes a mockery of the legal system and cowardly judges just sit back and let him.

“Cheese and Kraken paired together for the appetizer trial.”

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Be a traveling stable for those who can’t find room at the inn.

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Republicans in disarray!

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

If A Brutal Attack At A McDonalds Isn’t Filmed, Does It Really Count?

This post is in: This Week In Blackness

Five teenage girls are now in police custody after a vicious beating that took place in a Flatbush, Brooklyn McDonalds. The focus of the attack, a teenage girl who apparently went to Erasmus High School with the suspects, suffered a concussion, bruises and contusions. The attack was so brutal that it’s not only causing arrests, but community action:

A prayer vigil is being held Monday outside the Brooklyn restaurant. Community activists are holding the vigil for peace and to denounce such violence. “Yeah, this was the call to action – to say enough is enough,” community advocate Tony Herbert said. Herbert recently announced a new task force called “One Family, One Community.”

But let’s not forget why this is getting attention in the first place–the viral videos that came out of the event where it shows multiple people filming and watching the attack but doing NOTHING to intervene.

Team Blackness also discussed updates on the police shootings in Ferguson, San Francisco cops caught being racist, and a even more cop-related sadness.

    A couple of comments….

    1. No link to the story about Brooklyn McDonalds attack.

    2. No date give for this attack. Journalism 101: what, when, where is ESSENTIAL to ANY story…but where is missing.

@EthylEster: A quick google for Erasmus High School news gives me this article from 3/12 at the top of the results.

The video even made my local “what’s trending on Facebook” hour, I mean local news.

“the viral videos that came out of the event where it shows multiple people filming and watching the attack but doing NOTHING to intervene.”

I don’t know how much I condemn those people.

I mean, if I saw some guy beating on a girl in a MacDonalds, I would probably feel an obligation to intervene. I would wade in and at least try to distract the dude or talk to him or if it comes to it, get involved physically. That’s all provided that he’s not crazy or armed, and provided that my intervention stands a reasonable chance of improving the situation for the victim.

But if I see the cops hitting some girl then I know that the *are* crazy, they *are* armed, and my intervention will do *nothing* to improve the situation for the victim. It won’t do her any good for me to get my head busted. And if I step in, they may bust her head twice, just to teach us both a lesson.

The cops are out of control and crazy. It is going to take a whole lot to rein them in. Videoing does more, right now, then “interfering with an arrest,” “resisting arrest,” “assaulting an officer,” and all of the other made-up shit they are going to charge me with if I try to intervene.

It sucks, but that’s where things stand right now.

combine that with open carry goonology and dang, dontcha know it, we’re right back to dueling shoots-outs in the streets with a herd of morons standing around watching for entertainment.

@oldster: Uh the perpatrators of the attack are five teenage girls. Its literally the first three words of the post.

    @b-more: @b-more:

    My fault–I totally misunderstood.

But note that the first words of the post are not that the five girls are the perpetrators, but that there was a beating, and five girls are in custody. I assumed that meant that the five girls had been beaten while being taken into custody.

    My mistake.

Aniah Ferguson, 16, who police believe was the ringleader of the brawl, was the first person to be arrested in the incident which came to light via a YouTube video last week.

Ferguson has 10 prior arrests, including one for an assault as recently as last month. Authorities said she beat up her 64-year-old grandmother, stabbed her brother with a kitchen knife and injured a police officer during an arrest for violating an order of protection.

All that by the age of 16.
