Adam sends this in:
“Hello Furry Friends Network Volunteers. I am trying to get a very sick Rottie up to PA from Miami Florida!
Does anyone have any family or friends in the Miami area and off of Route 95 up to Virginia that could help get this boy up here?
He can’t go on a mass transport as he is too sick so I am trying to get him up here by himself.
Please let me know at [email protected]
Thanks!

You know what to do, Juicers!

@Davebo: What do you have against the Great Balloon Juice Summer Road Trip?

@Davebo:
Why not? It’s happened before.

John and the Juicers,
Thanks! They’re really good folks at FFN. They’re not asking or,expecting anyone to drive a dog from Miami to the Harrisburg, PA area. Just some help getting the dog their in stages if possible. They emailed me as I have both my current rescues from them, but am currently in Florida – though on the wrong side of the state. Any help or creative suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks.
V/r,
Adam

Just hugged my cat. Bear hug and she seemed confused. Telling her she will make somebody happy, by getting a home.

Alas, all I can send from Malaysia is my good wishes. What ails the poorly Rottweiler, and can he make a full recovery?

I see you put her email in the thread. Almost want to email her. I am not rich but I can spend a few bucks here.

@Davebo: A cat rescuer I know in NE Connecticut has twice gotten kittens and cats from a rescuer she knows in northern Alabama. The second batch was actually a group of kittens and cats that the rescuer in Alabama herself rescued from a kill-shelter with the plan already set up to send some of the kittens and cats to Connecticut. Cassie in CT can place kittens easily while the rescuers in AL have a harder time placing animals. Shelters nation-wide transport animals between locations when one area can provide homes for animals that aren’t able to homed near where they started out.

@Adam L Silverman: Hi Adam. My wife and I have done transport legs dozens of times. I’m on the MD side of the Potomac, but if they need a leg in the DC area we may be able to help. Thanks for posting.
Elmo
@Elmo: there. Email sent. Adam, do you have any add’l info?
raven
@Davebo: What’s your fucking problem? You don’t like it just keep your goddamn mouth shut.
Davebo
@raven:
Classic!

@Davebo:
Many of us like cats and dogs. Humans have to earn that level of default acceptance. So far, you haven’t.
Adam L Silverman
@Elmo: Elmo, thanks, all I have is what I was pushed in the email I forwarded to John. I emailed the Lynn at FFN asking her to check in here at the comments, put up some more info if possible, etc. That’s all I’ve got so far.

@PurpleGirl:
A lot of rescue orgs and shelters are discovering that demand for certain animals depends on geographic area and you had small dogs being euthanized in exurban and rural areas because everyone wanted a large dog, while urban areas were short on the small dogs that people wanted for apartments. Why not transport the animals to an area where there’s a demand for them rather than euthanizing them? It’s so much more logical.

@raven:
There’s our Raven!
How goes the house?
PurpleGirl
@Mnemosyne (tablet): Yup. That’s what Cassie (CT) and Kendra (AL) have found, so they are working together to save kittens and cats in AL by finding them homes in CT. This second batch of kittens/cats came from a kill-shelter in AL when Kendra found out that the shelter was planning on euthanizing all the animals they had because of shelter cough among the dogs. So Kendra took possession of some 30-odd kittens/cats and sent most them to Cassie. (Where by the way, she was able to rehome them within weeks.)

@BubbaDave:
I love my dog. I’ve loved all of my dogs. But none of them would come pick me up at the airport.
Therefore, they are not Jesus.
My dog certainly accepts me. And you surely are not road tripping to Miami right now so why not shut the fuck up?
If, however, this puppy manages to get transported from south Florida to Pennsylvania where apparently there exists some amazing veterinary medicine that does not exist south of the Mason Dixon line I hope he or she recovers and lives a long happy life.

@A Ghost To Most: Pretty good, we meet with the contractor later to talk over the more-than-planned kitchen work. The cornice work is done so a few finishing ductwork issues and then the insulation, sheetrock, siding and roof (not necessarily in that order} will be next. thx
Tommy
Never had a dog. I am 46 now. I called a rescue place by me yesterday and they treated me like I was ten when I said I wanted a German Shepherd. Sure I’d like a puppy, but I would take an adult that nobody seemed to want.
The lady was like they are active dogs. I am like that is kind of my point. I got a lap thing and it is called my cat. I got this fitness bracelet and I try to do 15,000 steps a day. About 6.2 miles.
If I had a dog that wanted to walk with me, bring her lease to me, that would be fucking pretty cool. Guess I called the wrong shelter!
Pogonip
@Davebo: Raven is in a good mood today.
Davebo
@Tommy:
You did (pick the wrong shelter). Try again! Words can’t explain just how much love a dog can give you and any dog would love that walk regimen!
Davebo
@Pogonip:
We all have them. Perhaps a loving dog would help!

Can’t help with the actual transportation, but I would chip in a few dollars to help cover costs. Please keep us posted.

@Tommy:
Are you in the North East? Very nice shelter. Very nice dogs http://www.littleguild.org/pet/lily-and-bruno/ Combo lol around do nothing and “good walkers” at the same time it says.
But that’s a great shelter.

@Adam L Silverman:
There are a lot of private planes in Miami that go to and from the North East. Maybe someone at BJ knows someone who knows someone.
Then Google offers these volunteer pilots, can’t hurt to ask:

@Adam L Silverman: Does your rescue org know about Pilots N Paws?
They flew my Toro from LA to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in SF, which is where I adopted him. Seem like good people.
ETA sorry to repeat MazeDancer’s info, but the link may help.
Adam L Silverman
@bemused senior: Bemused Senior and MazeDancer,
The first thing I said to them in my email reply was a suggestion similar to what you’ve both made. I have no idea why the dog can’t be treated in Miami. I was contacted by one of the foster families within the rescue group, specifically the one that fostered both my dogs, as they know I’m assigned down here right now and that I am from Florida (I have to go relieve BettyC in fifteen minutes – us natives are on four hour shifts…), and have relatives here. Unfortunately for Furry Friends I’m not assigned at Homestead and all my family is within a thirty-five minute drive of me and we’re on the wrong side of the state. Like most rescue groups I do know that they have limited resources. I turned to John not in the hope of donations, but that the community here might collectively have some potential solutions they hadn’t thought of.

@Adam L Silverman:
The dog is HW positive, as well infected with a tick born disease and anemic. He can’t go on a public transport till he has been in a private kennel for 14 days with all the other health issues he has.
Adam L Silverman
John and Balloon Juicers,
I just want to thank everyone who engaged on this with constructive suggestions – both here in comments and in direct messages with Lynn at Furry Friends. Lynn just emailed me to tell me that the dog is staying put for the time being with the local rescue org in Miami as he is just too sick to move right now. Despite this reality, thanks again. I really appreciate the support and I know that Furry Friends did too.
V/r,
Adam
