In case there was any question whether #BlackLivesMatter activists continue to be targeted by police, Alexis Templeton and Brittany Ferrell, who lead the Ferguson protest group Millennial Activists United were arrested this week. Their crime? Inquiring about 64 people that had been arrested after an action that shutdown Interstate 70 as part of Moral Monday.
The married couple’s attorney Aaron Banks said his attempts to speak with his clients have been denied, along with attempts from lawyers Denise Lieberman and Jerryl Christmas. … Banks said police wanted his clients to tell them the names of the people who organized the action. “We all know they are being targeted,” Banks said. “They are high-profile activists. They are being targeted because they don’t want us to be there. They want us to go away.”

“Their arrest in Clayton on Tuesday was the result of new charges. Templeton was charged with three misdemeanors – assault, trespassing and peace disturbance, St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced on August 12, following the police investigation.”
I presume this is the same McCulloch who refused to charge the officer who killed Michael Brown with anything at all.

Smilin’ Bob claims Templeton punched a driver in the eye as s/he passed the march (paging Jim Hoft!) and Ferrell hit the car so hard it caused hundreds of dollars in damage.
SLPD should be begging these two super heroines to join the force.

Now these guys clearly have no f*cks to give. They just don’t care what anyone thinks.
First you issue a warrant to the black reporter you arrested last year – but no one else.
Then this shite – incredible.

@Geeno: They must have realized how only charging Lowery looked so they went after two other reporters who were arrested last year. (Of course, saying it was a mistake to issue a warrant against Lowery was out of the question because reasons.)
Actually, I don’t think Missery ever had any fucks, they just went through a brief period of pretending they did.

How can you expect anyone to take your posts seriously if you write something like “Alexis Templeton and Brittany Ferrell, who lead the Ferguson protest group Millennial Activists United were arrested this week. Their crime? Inquiring about 64 people that had been arrested after an action that shutdown Interstate 70 as part of Moral Monday.”, when it takes 2 minutes to read the actual story to discover that the crimes they are charged with include assault, property damage, etc.
You can make whatever point you want about what you think is going on — but we’re supposed to be better than hiding facts that we don’t like. It seems like in the last few years the left wing blogosphere has totally jettisoned any qualms with making it’s own reality and ignoring facts when they don’t match our preconceived notions.
More and more i feel alienated from the progressive movement online because of stuff like this.. How can you expect to keep allies and win over new supporters if they only need to do a little research to find out you guys are just making shit up to make your opposition look bad?
We on the left have to be the ones committed to the TRUTH. If Eric Holder’s justice department comes out and says the shooting was justified and Mike Brown was a bad actor — we need to stop pretending that’s not the case. It doesn’t mean there aren’t big structural racism problems that need to be fixed — but it does mean we have to stop trying to shove some false history down people’s throats hoping that if we scream loud enough or storm enough podiums and drown out those who disagree, that eventually we can win a propaganda war and be the victors rewriting history.
I always thought the progressives were the ones who were committed to telling truth to power — more and more it seems like the left on the internet has just accepted that the ends justify the means, and if that means catapulting the propaganda of false stories to get sympathy so be it.

@sreja:
You are believing Bob McCulloch – that’s where your rant went off the rails. What the arrest paper says and why they were originally arrested are 2 very different things.
As for doing it the “right way” – that leaves the status quo exactly where it has been since 1964. The right wing can lie their way to power but progressives/minorities must accept what they say as the “truth”? You need to start researching what is this “truth” of which you speak.

i’m not believing anyone. my point is.. i’d be fine with a post that said these folks were charged with assault but you looked into the event and have concluded that the charges are trumped up. my question is — do you (or elon) even care if the charges are true or not? do the facts matter? if you saw a video of the accused reaching through the car window and punching someone in the face, would you write the story differently?
or is the outrage game just about not giving any fucks about the facts? are facts and reality for us suckers? is it just about winning a media war and facts are getting in the way? is the game about shifting to a new outrage each week before anyone can sort out the reality of last week’s outrage?
if you treat every weekly non-event as a gross miscarriage of justice, and half of your stories are complete nonsense manufacturerd outrage, then when the real miscarriage of justice occurs some of us are not going to be able to tell the difference between it and the phony bullshit you have been slinging.
you guys are damaging the long term ability of all of us on the left to effect change by playing so fast and loose with the facts.
