And here I had imagined there were Bronies because MLP is a universe where it’s really difficult to get into a dick-measuring contest.
The Tube-verse is not only stranger than we know, it may be stranger than we can know.

@lamh36:
I hope seeing Zoe’s lovely little face brings you joy while she is there with you. I lived with my brother for nine months when two of his kids were quite young – 2½ and six months when I moved in. The younger one sometimes would only want me when he was upset. Better be careful – they can trap you!

Still not as messed up as My Little Pony pr0n. But close.

Really? The bronies? I guess…you mock a movement enough and they’ll radicalize, I suppose.
And no, hitler would not have been an anime fan. He would have detested anime in general, the Dragon Ball Z in particular.

As a reluctant brony (seen every episode thanks to my daughter), I have to agree that eugenics is quite a long trip. There are some interesting things to learn, though.
I have quite nearly convinced my daughter that the presence of bowling as a pony pastime can only mean that MLP is a distant future Earth, post apocalypse, where horses have mutated, learned to read, and adopted lost human activities as there is no way at a species lacking thumbs would invent bowling, so it must be an adopted activity.
I have also convinced her that Discord, voiced by John de Lancie, is exactly the same character as Q from Star Trek. I keep waiting for the episode when he sends the Borg to invade Ponyville.

@? Martin: If the Borg invaded Ponyville, I would watch.
True story: when Spawn the Elder was a toddler, I bought tickets to take her to see “My Little Pony LIVE! The World’s Largest Tea Party”. I can assure you that it was the masterpiece of stage that you expect based on that title. Anyway, I had also been approached to be a hair model for Vidal Sassoon, and part of the deal was that the hairstylists could do whatever they wanted to my hair. As it worked out, I got the hair done the afternoon of the My Little Pony thing. And when they did it……I walked out of the salon with a very artful and sophisticated head of pink and purple hair. They asked me if I was going to go out that night, and I said, “NOPE! Going to see the Ponies!” As it worked out…..I matched the Ponies. Spawn thought I was pretty awesome.

If only this could be done with American journalists today:
General Joe Stillwell’s was ordered to the War Department and arrived a few days after the Pearl Harbor attack. Dismayed at the chaos he witnessed there, he wrote his wife: “Someone with a loud voice and a mean look and a big stick ought to appear and yell, ‘HALT! you crazy bastards. SILENCE! you imitation ants. Now half of you get the hell out of town before dark and the other half sit down and don’t move for one hour’. Then they could burn up all the papers and start fresh”.

@David Koch:
Trump’s campaign is truly amazing so far.
He’s kept to the tried and true Republican platitudes, such as “real Americans” and “restoring American” closely enough that he easily appeals to people conditioned to need to hear it from a politician, but has gone enough off script that he’s flustered the heck out of the rest of the Republican field.
Look at how Vitter basically said he “sinned” and found forgiveness in Jesus, so therefore no harm no foul, for banging hookers.
Trump’s taken that sort of trope and gone, “hey, I ‘screwed up’ once and thought abortion was cool, but I’ve changed, I love Jesus now and hate abortion, you gotta problem with it?” and there’s not a lot anyone in the Republican field can do to use his “change” in beliefs against him (no “flip flopping ads”) because so many Republicans have used the “praise Jesus, I sinned in the past” as a “get out of jail free” card and will probably look to use it again in the future.
There’s so much shallow shiny metallic plated pablum, with nothing substantial underneath, on the Right and has been for decades, Trump’s brand of “this makes no sense, other than my wishful thinking” fits right in. Trump says Mexico will pay for a wall between the two countries is not really any different – on a scale of reality fact based things that happen – than any other Republican candidate running on a platform of tax cuts pay for themselves and do not create budget problems, which has become an article of faith for Republicans.
Trump’s basically taken all the “serious policy work” right-wingers have worked to put in place for decades, realized most of it is bullshit and is out bullshtting the establishment bullshitters and since all the establishment has is bullshit, there’s not a lot they can do about the Trump’s off script brand of bullshit.
Truly amazing.

@gene108: his tweets about China causing our stock jitters were, well, strange for a capitalist let alone a republican one. Complaints about “poor planning”. Yeah. O.K. So is Trump offering to make a plan to correct the bad plan? Is does he have special insight into just how much exposure to China is too much for the economy to handle? Shall we tell Frito-Lay how many potato chips they should sell there? I mean, if Hillary or God forbid Bernie started talking about plans, the right would freak out like it was the reemergence of Mao Stalin.

J R in WV
@Thoughtful Today:
Our mortgage holder bank informed us of an increase in our escrow fund for insurance and property taxes. We sent them a payment for the increase to keep the monthly payments the same. They have kept that payment without booking it to our account; have bumped our monthly by twice the amount needed to make the escrow account whole.
This amounts to a 100% interest rate on the escrow monies, which is illegal usury in this state. At the same time they have effectively stolen that payment we made to make the escrow change whole in the beginning.
Mrs J talked to a supervisor early this month, who then made changes that were supposed to have taken care of this issue. Then yesterday evening I got a call from some dweeb at the bank-robbing-us who wanted to talk about that account, so obviously it isn’t fixed correctly yet, after 8 months of back and forth.
When did it become legal for banks to steal thousands of dollars from their customers?
gene108
@Peale:
I am not on Twitter. Not sure about Trump’s proclamations on China are.
It’s just that NO REPUBLICAN HAS A PLAN to correct ANY problem. They have talking points that the media, for whatever reason, has decided to take as real solutions.
Trump’s bluster about a Great Wall on our Southern border is about as well thought a solution to a problem as the inevitable tax cuts and cuts in social spending is to boosting the economy that any Republican President will implement.
At some point it is just wishful thinking coupled with the ability to inflict real material harm to the less fortunate. Facts be damned.

I love Friendship is Magic, although the huge wait between seasons has burned out the passion there. I admire the messages of individuality, that girls can be proud, not defensive, of traditional femininity, that they can love ‘girl things’ and ‘boy things’ at the same time and there’s no difference, and yes, that friendship is powerful and great. The animation is the best I’ve ever seen, the voice acting is passionate and skilled, and the writing is consistently high quality. That quality dragged a lot of insecure young men into the fandom despite their fear of appearing girly, so yeah, you get misogynist backlash. It doesn’t help that there are still people who generally support feminism, but whose knee-jerk reaction is to make fun of liking ‘girl things’ as unmasculine.
Equestria is a matriarchy ruled by living goddesses, with women in all positions of power. The idea that this is systemic rather than a coincidence is a silly idea sometimes explored as a joke, or because it gives insight into how we think of femininity. The show certainly encourages speculation about femininity. Finding fans who take the idea seriously is nutpicking.
Wow, yeah, seriously. I thought I’d heard everything. Redpillers need emotional help. Maybe anti-psychotics.
@Peale:
Naah, this is nutpicking. It’s the redpillers who are crazy enough to latch onto anything, not the bronies.
@Mnemosyne (tablet):
I am delighted to say he did NOT get that bizarre and unfortunate description from the show. Eeewww.
EDIT – Oh, and avoid Equestria Girls. It takes everything great about the show, and fucks it up into a typical ‘high school girls are all about boys and popularity!’ mess. It goes against the whole empowering message of FiM, but Hasbro really wanted to sell those dolls. Sigh.

I know I’m not the only brony here, mycutiemarkisagun posts too. I also know that this foolishness is not typical of bronydom or My Little Pony.
Now, porn, on the other hand: that’s pretty typical. But at its best, it’s about personalities and not just images, and that seems a positive development and very FiM.

Eh. Rule 34 means that everything, everything spawns porn, and the more popular it is, the more porn. Playboy’s cheerleader spreads sold like hotcakes, and screencaps of Daenerys naked got a whooole lot of play on the internet. (I just checked, and now they’re old enough they’re off the top Google Image shelves.) MLP porn squicks me, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that humans lust, and it’s no damn business of mine to look down on what other people are into.

How could you think that Equestria is a utopia, Parasprites ring a bell? I know it’s hard to watch TV with your head up your ass, but still.
ChrisH
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is now the longest running cartoon meant to sell toys, and it’s thus because of it’s overall quality and messages of empowerment.
@Adam: Parasprites are basically tribbles, and Roddenberry thought the Federation was utopia-ish.
Maybe the above is a corollary of Godwin’s Law: within any fandom there will be at least one nazi
I eagerly await the election of our first openly brony president in 2028.
