Letang should get a fucking medal. He was on the ice for 30 minutes after Maata got the cheap shot and taken out the other night. And he hasn’t slowed down tonight either. He’s fucking beast and I love him.
I have no idea who these teams are that other commenters in this thread are discussing. Is this some sort of NBA takeover attempt? Is the NBA still playing? I can’t imagine watching basketball when hockey is on.
PENS!

O Canada! Our home and hockey-less land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
except in the NHL
From far and wide, O Canada,
We don’t stand in line, for hockey playoff tickets.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, from Lord Stanley’s Cup we will see in the USA
O Canada, no Stanley Cup for thee
For me the problem with this series is that any team that would hire a goon like Brooks Orpik really asks to be rooted against; and that describes both the Pens and the Caps.

@efgoldman: Cooke is even worse than Orpik. And Ulfie, ugh. He’s now a coach with the Rags, which speaks volumes about them. Years ago I added a little easter egg to Ulfie’s wikipedia page, and it’s still up be there; guess nobody disagrees with the sentiment.
is this what you added? “Samuelsson has the reputation as one of the dirtiest players in the history of the NHL “

@raven: When I see Nick Leddy tearing it up for the Islanders, and think of how the Blackhawks limped out of the first round with three defensemen and a bunch of replacements, I just want to cry.
Leddy and some other D-men got run out of town after landing in Joel Quenneville’s doghouse. As much as Q is admired and respected in Chicago for his success, there’s been some grumbling lately about how maybe he needs to downsize his doghouse.

@geg6: I’m not a Pens fan, but Letang is way cool.
I’ll never forget one play of his last season. The puck was sitting at the boards behind the Pens goal, Letang was closing in on it, and some opponent was riding his back, just waiting to cream him the moment he touched the pack.
Letang braced an instant before reaching the puck and let the guy run into his back. The guy went splat like he hit a brick wall and fell right on his butt. Letang coolly picked up the puck and carried it around the goal, up ice and away.
@2liberal: …except originally I wrote “has the reputation as the dirtiest player in the history of the NHL”; because there was never anybody else even close to Ulfie for intentionally dangerous hits.

Still not recovered from Spurs’ epic collapse against Chelsea earlier today. That’s gonna sting for a long time.
