Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

The words do not have to be perfect.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

In my day, never was longer.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

This really is a full service blog.

Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay – I was beaten, left bloody & unconscious so that every person could register and vote. Do your part.

    I just received my voter card this week! I moved from New York to Virginia, at the end of August. I’m so looking forward to making a purple-ish state more blue.

    And while you’re at it, take 30 seconds and sign up for a volunteering event.

    My expectation is that the debate didn’t move that many votes one way or another. But it probably fired up Dems enough that if we register them and turn them out then Hillary will win. That takes a ground game filled with volunteers. So let’s make it happen.

    @BR: I keep checking, and nothing scheduled. Sigh. Solid red state.

    @eclare: Are you close enough to Florida to come on down? We are phone banking every day and canvassing every Saturday. We’ll add weekday GOTV canvassing in October. Can you remote phone bank for your favorite purple state?

    @eclare:

    You may be able to use the virtual phone bank tool to make calls into another state or you could work for a local candidate. Maybe your state Dem organization can connect you with an organizer in another state.

    @Florida Frog: I’m in Memphis TN, so not close at all. And border states are MS and AR. So no good there. I can remote phone bank as long as someone gives me a little instruction.

    That’s weird, I pulled up Hillary for TN, put in my zip, and the nearest office is Little Rock? I’m going to call my rep, Cohen, I bet his office will know what to do. Thanks for the nudge!

    How did these Trump sexist comments not get any attention until now? The ones about Melania car accident scenario actually shocked me — they were more callous than I thought even Trump could be.

    @Iowa Old Lady:
    I have no doubt that had I suffered the beating Lewis and so many others suffered on the Pettus bridge I would have gotten the electric chair for the murders that I committed. The power to forgive is his and that is what makes him special.

    @MomSense:
    I did this the last two election cycles. It was set up so I could call into Wisconsin on Congressional races. I was given an outline to work from (more than an outline but not yet a script). Most of the people I spoke to were great, these are not cold calls. Got a couple of hang ups and a couple people that bitched about getting too many calls, which I have sympathy for so I was prepared to explain why I felt it better to call too much and not too little.

    This year I am doing a local race & not as much of that as life has interrupted my plans a lot this year.

    @Schlemazel:

    The power to forgive is his and that is what makes him special.

    To be able to harness the force used against him and turn it into a lifetime of service is indeed special. Pretty powerful words.
