    @Doug!: It may become necessary if they try to entrench themselves further into power, via voter suppression. Honestly, over the next few years shootings involving GOP pols are probably going to increase if this thing passes

    I posted this rant earlier today before the full impact of legislation was known Trumpcare. Obviously the text hasn’t improved the situation any. IT was posted as part of a thread on the number of kids that we kill every year with guns. So rather than coming up with a new rant I’ll just quote myself

    Don’t worry, the GOP plan to take away heath care will result in such a BIGLY HUGELY number of children dying from preventable illness that the gun numbers will just be a rounding error (SNARK SNARK).

    I sort of understand what makes a Ted Bundy, the hillside strangler and the other legion of mass murders tick. But these are men and women elected to some of the most important positions in our government. They go home and hug their kids and grand kids. Last week several of them formed a human shield in the dugout to protect their colleague’s 10 year old son. Most are Christian and go to church on Sunday and talk about their relationship with a man who preached ‘that which you do TO the least of my brothers and sisters you do to me. And that which you do FOR the least of my brother and sisters you do for me.’ The reason GOD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah was not gay sex, it was the failure of the citizens to show the required hospitality to three angels of the Lord disguised as travelers. I’m sure the Quran and the holy books of the other great religions have similar teachings.

    How do they look themselves in the mirror. One would almost think they they were preparing resumes to fill job openings at Auschwitz.

    How else to explain a bill designed to make health care in this country worse to pay for tax cuts to the wealthy?

    @gene108: Look at what happened with Scalise. You will scare the rest of them a little, but all they and the base will do is double down. It will give them an excuse to make the authoritarianism worse. I am pessimistic about the ballot box saving us, but that goal is infinitely better than violence for our side.

    The ballot box is the only thing that could interrupt our current downward spiral.

    That doesn’t mean that it automatically will. We need to keep working on it to prevent the worse alternative.

    OT CNN is reporting that very preliminary investigation indicates that 5 of the 7 sailors on the Fitzgerald probably died almost instantly from the collision. The other two tried to rescue them. There is some confusion at the moment on when and how they died. There is speculation that the bridge lost communication with them and the water tight bulkheads were closed while they were still on their rescue mission. The doors had to be closed to prevent the flooding from spreading to other compartments. There is also speculation that the container ship was on autopilot but no explanation as to why Fitzgerald could not/did not get out of the way. Needless to say the investigation is still in a very early stage.

    In the meantime Der Fuhrer has spent the past week whining about how unfair the world is being to him. As to the Fitzgerald – crickets.

    @Shalimar: In that hypothetical, the point isn’t to scare them. It’s to kill as many of them as possible. Dilute their numbers. Not that I endorse something so horrible

    @D58826: and He did have one win. Ford this week announced that it was no longer going to move production of the fusion to Mexico. Instead it’s going to China. Win! Let’s see, so far that’s a deal for $2.5 billion purcheses of argricultural crops in exchange for about $3 billion annually in auto imports. The trade gap is closing!

    The real ‘irony’ of the Ford move is that if the plant stayed in Mexico a lot of thew parts would have been sourced in the US thereby creating jobs. In moving to China, anything not sourced in China will be sourced in East Asia so 0 American jobs. This is just so much winning I need a sedative.
