Speaking of assholes by DougJ| September 18, 20174:43 pm| 29 CommentsThis post is in: C.R.E.A.M.FacebookTweetEmailFuck Paul Ryan (give to Iron Stache below): And fuck all the Republicans in the House (give to the eventual Democratic nominees in all districts currently held by Republicans):
you ain’t wrong.
PHUCK the ZEGK
@rikyrah: Ye gods I want Iron Stache to beat him up one side and down the other. Then defecate on the carcass.
Tell us how you really feel Doug.
Is the title a song lyric?
@ Doug!: Perhaps you should fundraise to get rid of the new ad flood on BJ.
@TenguPhule: Excellent idea!
@schrodingers_cat: I could live with either the big ugly ads or the annoying autoplay ad.
No, I lie. I can’t live with the autoplay ad.
But both at the same time is really asking too much of us.
Major Major Major Major
@TenguPhule: Yeah, it’s weird how we ended up with both.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Doug!: it may be somewhere
Twitter is, ahem, a-twitter over this ad by Dan Helmer, a Democratic candidate in VA-10:
Helmer Ad, “You’ve Lost That Centrist Feeling”
The ad is getting really harsh reviews, but I think it’s funny and cute. If he wanted to get attention, he seems to have succeeded.
I don’t know anything else about him, but a guy who can laugh at himself gets brownie points right off the bat.
Also, he’s defining support for Planned Parenthood and ObamaCare as “centrist,” much to RW dismay. That can’t be a bad thing.
@Major Major Major Major: Alain said something about how the big ads were supposed to replace the autoplay ad. And that there were apparently worse alternatives to this.
But those ads can’t possibly be generating the kind of hits needed since I’m fairly certain the regular readers here hate all of them.
@CaseyL: Okay I just watched it. The ad is total cheeseball but it definitely will leave a mark on Comstock. It doesn’t hurt that Helmer is quite photogenic.
And that whole thing about no bad publicity? Hey folks are talking.
@TenguPhule: I will not click on anything sponsored by Taboola.
Question: is everybody getting 8 ads before the comment section on the mobile site? And is there something I can do to make them disappear?
Charles P. Pierce is not impressed.
I am getting only 6 ads before the comment section. (FWIW, even though I use mobile devices exclusively, I always keep BJ set to Desktop Version. Much more attractive, much easier to navigate, IMO.)
@SiubhanDuinne: Haven’t had a whole lot of respect for Charlie since he went full BernieBro during the primaries. And he doesn’t say what it is about the ad that put his teeth on edge; maybe it’s not sober and high-minded enough for him? Cheesy and playful doesn’t float his boat?
Major Major Major Major
@SiubhanDuinne: I am getting zero, because for the first time in my life I’ve installed an ad blocker on my phone.
@CaseyL: Pierce has been hit or miss for me lately. And yes the ad is a cheese fest. But there is nothing in there that will damage Helmer. And it’s getting name recognition beyond what a typical political ad would do.
@CaseyL: Now we will see if Comstock gives a response here. This could almost be popcorn worthy.
? ?? Goku (aka The Hope of the Universe) ? ?
I personally think this ad will have little affect on the race 1 year from now. 2018 is our election to lose at this point, really. Trump and the GOP are so bad and opposition parties traditionally do well in midterms.
@Yutsano: If Comstock does “What a Feeling” (cf Flashdance) pastiche in response….
@RedDirtGirl: Girl how are you? Yeah the ads are new. And how’s the boyfriend?
Howdy, Helen. Life is good. Just passed the 1 year mark with the fella. Any more dating stories from your neck of the woods?
And is there something I can do to make them disappear?
1. Use the donate button to compensate Cole and Alain, enough to salve your conscience.
I suggest $64/annum; YMMV
2. Use firefox with adblock plus and noscript
=> no static at all
@CaseyL: Thank you for the link, I had heard of this and wanted to see it. It is really awful but I loved it. He is going to get a lot of attention .
if I lived in his district this ad would have me looking up who he is and what he stands for.
@joel hanes: Thanks!
