I’ve banned the dogs from the couch because they’ve been out of control. I walked into the room and found this. That space is barely big enough for a cat, much less a 160 lb beast of a dog. Love that pup.
I know some of you have wanted a duck update, but it’s been raining pretty much since I returned from my trip, so I don’t have any new photos. I’ll work on that.
I hear there is interest in a Denver area meet-up. Could we get a head count of interest here and ideas on a central location (that isn’t downtown Denver, hopefully)?
For the rest of you…open thread. What’s on your to-do list tonight?
A Ghost to Most
I hear Golden is nice.
MomSaysI*mHandsome
Even though the introvert in me tells it’s the worst idea ever, I would enjoy meeting some local Juicers in meatspace. I agree that downtown is to be avoided; I’m near Lowry but can travel.

Tonight, I’m gonna eat, read, draw, and play video games.

Can lurkers attend? I would love to meet Denver-area juicers…

I’m impressed by the pup’s grace and agility in not disturbing the obstacles placed on the couch to deter lounging.

I’m in Denver, mainly lurk, very occasionally post, may want to meet. But I’m a very committed Bernie fan, believe he would have won, and can’t help but blame Hillary supporters for Trump. If you have a problem with that I don’t need to know you.

I met a young Great Dane at the vet the other day. Lovely fellow, three months old and 58 freakin’ pounds! Best part was that he came all the way from Houston, Texas to Nova Scotia. His person said that the breeder’s kennels were trashed by Harvey and the pups were pretty much given to good homes for the price of the airfare. So the young monster has a new home with another adult Dane and their keeper has happy chaos. Good deal all ’round.

Since it’s an open thread: has anyone seen late night commenter “Temporarily Max McGee” around recently? I’m concerned, because I know he was dealing with a very serious illness (with a very wonderful attitude).

In Boulder. Definitely stay away from downtown Denver but Boulder traffic is getting pretty bad.

Ok so I freed a few comments from lurkers.
Please have a great meet-up and do send pics so I can post them!

@chris: Wonderful story. Love Great Danes but where do you put stuff to keep it out of pup’s reach. I had a friend who had one and pup took things off the top of refrigerator. My large dogs can only dream of reaching that high.
Yutsano
Speaking of which…just sent a note to AL since I’ll be back in Seattle in a couple weekends.,

I’m available, but not mandatory, for a Denver meet up. Agreed that downtown and Boulder present logistical challenges. Tech Center is right out for us. Highlands? Golden? (I’m biased)

A meetup sounds interesting. I also vote for north of LoDo, and not Boulder. (I’ve been avoiding campus, have been able to stick with the sci/tech center since school started. Except today. Oh gods and angels, why are we doing construction now?!?!) Weekend schedule is mostly clear, except for the 21st.
Equally inconvenient looks like somewhere along I25 between Highway 7 / E470 and 120th.
Starfish
I am around the area and would be happy to meet.
@Psych1: The comments that you have evoked are hilarious because the discussions in the first meet up for this area were about how much Juicers on the website hate Bernie. In real life, though some of us care about politics, I am not sure that we cared enough to participate in the caucuses.

I’m in the Lowry area as well. I would recommend the Lowry Beer Garden. A locally owned place with good business gets and a fantastic selection of local beers!

From one giant-breed lover to another, that photo cracks me up! I have one somewhere of each of my 2 Newfies stretching luxuriously on it’s own sofa, –looking at me like, “what’s your problem, 2-legs?”
Annie update: her physical health is way better, after several cycles of various oral and topical antibiotics. Her emotional health is as well. She is just a love–the sweetest dog, and a testament to her breed, considering her first 8 years.
I am given to understand that she and the other dogs were kept in some kind of outside fenced pen–so, at least not in cages… but the poor lil pupper was just loaded with infections and parasites of every description. After many consults with (super excellent) breed rescue, we are going to rehome miss Annie in a place with (a) someone with a strong back (b) a single story home –she just can’t do stairs, even the 3 into and out of my place, and at age 8, well, it’s not gonna get better, and (c) I hope she goes to live with another dog to keep her company, as well.
She just deserves the very best the world can give her, and I know that That Newfoundland Place will find it for her. They are fantastic!
Mike J
@Starfish: I went through three rounds of cauci and found them profoundly undemocratic. Our non-binding primary had three times the turnout as our caucus and had nobody screaming in my face that Bernie understood black people better than Hillary.
Fuck caucuses, fuck Bernie, fuck Berniebros.
TaMara (HFG)
@MoxieM: Aaawww, I’m sure it was a tough call, but love you for doing what’s best for Annie. I’ve been wondering how she was doing. Glad to hear she’s in good hands all around.
I have to get back to work, I’ll check back later and we’ll try and nail this meetup down this weekend and get a time and location set.
Steve in the ATL
Hey, we should totally have a Denver meet up! How about three weeks ago when I told everyone I was spending a week there?
It’s ok—I’m sure my dog still loves me. Jasper? Where’d you go?
Merde.
Yutsano
@Mike J: The WA Democratic party if anything needs to switch how those work. The primary should have been binding since I for sure did that. No way was I about to do a caucus.

I see Trump will be in LV tomorrow. Want to bet he brings up the NFL protest and how it disrespects the troops and first responders who were heroes?

@Major Major Major Major: I guess I let that part wash over me like water. I am very “How about we decide on a winning strategy involving cooperation?” next time. There are a few socialists who definitely do not want that, but I don’t think I have met any of them in real life.

@Mike J: My spouse went. I just sat at home with my child and laughed and laughed as my spouse and my other friend in line texted me about how crowded it was. I knew I would vote for whoever had the best chance of defeating the Orange Menace. I hope we switch to a primary system.

I was a delegate (Hillary, natch) right up to the State convention, where I had the joy of listening to Bros booing Bennet and other elected officials, and bellowing “change your vote” at them. Pissed me off quite royally, and it was just a bit frightening, too.

Lurker here. Not sure I get the Downtown hate! Traffic is shit everywhere but who among us doesn’t avoid South Denver like the plague?? I mean, Downtown is fun and the bus from Boulder is easy. The Terminal bar at Union Station is great. And I still love the Cruise Room. But Local 46 is right off I-70 in Berkeley Lake. On Tennyson, near Lakeside. The Biergarten is really lovely with fire pits and cornhole & ping pong. Relaxed atmosphere with good drinks and the outdoor grill is still open. BookBar on Tennyson is also a great place to meet up. Lots of space with the patio out back or you can reserve the coffee table area for meet-ups. Love hanging out there.

@Quaker in a Basement: Good question. I can’t remember his name either but the original idea for the meet-up was for him to make some contacts in his new hometown. He’s from the northwest, recently split up with a woman (his wife IIRC) he is still friends with and misses very much, is some sort of community builder of users of a Linux based laptop company, once met the guy who developed Linux — I remember everything but his name.
I bet Adam or Ghost to Most remembers. It would be a shame if he missed the meetup.

This is the thing that’s so weird about all this. You get to know folks, become friends with them, care about them….but then there’s no way to follow up as you would with a non-cyber friend, if they disappear (or even if you just can’t remember their nym, etc.)
When General Stuck disappeared back in 2013 (?), Steep and I did some research and were able to figure out that he had died; and eventually with the help of FPers were able to reach some family members who appreciated how he was loved in this community.
We also got a bunch of shit from a bunch of assholes for our efforts, but that’s neither there nor here.
