Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Republicans do not trust women.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

“woke” is the new caravan.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

CHIP in trouble in Coloradi

Breaking news: Colorado announces that it has started sending letters out to CHIP families warning them that their coverage is in jeopardy. This is the first state I am aware of.https://t.co/OE70sKaddJ

— Joan Alker (@JoanAlker1) November 27, 2017

There are another handful of states where their CHIP carry-over funds will soon be exhausted. Benefit cuts, enrollment freezes and kicking people off of the program are the few steps that states can take if there is not a re-authorization of CHIP in the next few weeks.

So this time, non-ironically, what about the kids?

Silly question. We all know that poor kids need die to help offset the rich folks tax cuts. It’s only fair.

They should have bought their own Congress.

I’m going to take Chip reauthorization under a Republican controlled House and Senate as first of never, Alex.

The ONLY hope I’ve seen here is if it gets thrown into the CR. Because the Republicans haven’t even STARTED the budget process for fiscal year 2018. And that might also get spiked because of DACA.

Fuckem. If they wanted healthcare, they should have been born in a civilized country.

    I have a modest proposal ….

Nah, better not. I don’t want a CongressNAZI to get wind of it and have it wind up in legislation.

My solution is a complete ban on abortion so that we’ll be able to quickly replace those kids who die due to lack of health care.
Any more questions you need answered?

You know Republicans aren’t going to renew CHIP, right? They tried using it as sweetner to get Democrats to vote for bills they wouldn’t (and didn’t thank goodness). So it is gone.

Republican Congresscritters don’t represent their citizens any more. Now they only represent their donors. One would like to see the Tea Party set go nuclear at that point but the Tea Party was always a farce more useful to bait scared Democrats with.

    So much for “pro-life”.

Just in keeping with the upcoming holiday season. “Well perhaps they should hurry up and die, and reduce the surplus population” may have been uttered by Scrooge, but it’s the Republicans’ guiding principle.

Remember how for years Republicans were all about the “culture of life”? Apparently it’s only from conception until birth.

    @MomSense:

Nope. They don’t support prenatal care either. They don’t want to allow abortions, but they’re perfectly fine with skyrocketing infant mortality rates.

@TenguPhule: I sort of recall Citizens United was specifically overturning Colorado’s strict anti bribery laws that grew out of the seriously corrupt silver rush period, a reaction. Anyway, if the Supream Court actually knew history, they would have known their own arguments were bullshit disproven by actual experience.

The Republicans are the Party of Evil. Fortunately they’re also the Party of Incompetence, but occasionally they are just competent enough at tearing stuff down to somewhat succeed at that.

Hell of a lot easier to tear stuff down than build stuff up. Not much to be proud of.

Nine million kids get CHIP. It’s dead and gone until at least 5 Jan 2019.

I despair of wondering when the stupids in this country will finally figure out some of the differences between the two parties, but does anyone think this will finally clarify loyalties for parents of these kids?

In CA our 2m CHIP recipients received $2.4B of federal funding in FY 2016. Hopefully we can cover that, but that is a big lift just after we finished a budget.

    @TenguPhule:

Damn moochers should have chosen better parents.

Kids are only important as props before they’re born. After that they’re on their own.
