Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

We still have time to mess this up!

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

This post is in: Meetups, Readership Capture

FacebookTweetEmail

Major Major Major Major‘s spontaneous San Francisco meet-up will convene at 3:30, local time, at the Thirsty Bear.

The LA meet-up that travelling commentor LAMH requested will collect, starting at 6pm local time, at the Grand Central Market‘s “large seating area on the Hill side of the building”.

As a precaution, check back to the original posts, linked above, for any further updates.

***********

Attendees should take and send me photos. Obviously, the rest of us jackals will judge which city had the best meet-up by the quality of those pics! (/snark)

Here’s a topic to kick around: Howard Dean just stated on MSNBCthat contrary to his bravado, Donald Trump was NOT a good businessman, and did not have the respect of the financial community in NY or anywhere else. Dean said it in plain English, too.

A topic for conversation: why on earth didn’t Hillary make that fact as plain, and then hammer it home during her campaign?

@No Drought No More: Um, he’s male, he’s not running for office, the election is over, he’s not Hillary Clinton. I’m sure there are many more reasons why it’s okay to say it now. For all I know, Hillary did say that during the campaign and nobody paid any attention.

Here’s a topic to kick around: She totally did and you people complained that she was “running against Trump” instead of “addressing economic anxiety”.

She probably tried to make the point, and was ignored.

I don’t know whether any of the GOP contenders in the primary tried to drive this point home. In any event, Trump was able to play on his image successfully. Nobody cared about the reality.

For LA jackals, the Grand Central Market has a really good website with tons of information about parking and public transit. I’ve never been there, so I’m looking forward to it.

    Who’s bringing the green balloons?

@No Drought No More: Because the MSM would have attacked her for being “negative” instead of “positive”, which indicates that they didn’t bother reading her web site and see all the “positive” shit therein.

@No Drought No More: June, 2016

    Hillary Clinton‏Verified account
Trump the businessman? A total failure. He bankrupted his Atlantic City casinos (but pocketed millions for himself):

September, 2016, in a nationally televised debate

However Ms Clinton continued: “Do the thousands of people that you have stiffed over the course of your business, not deserve some kind of apology from someone who has taken their labor, taken the goods that they’ve produced and then refused to pay them.”
She added: “And when we talk about your business, you’ve taken business bankruptcy six times…

    July, 2016

“We’re standing in front of the old Trump Plaza Casino and Hotel. Donald Trump once predicted it will be the biggest hit yet,” Clinton said. “Now it’s abandoned. You can just make out the word ‘Trump’ where it used to be written in flashy lights. He had the letters taken down a few years ago. But his presence remains.”
Not too far from there, Clinton noted, was Trump Marina Hotel Casino. “A few years ago it was sold at a — huge — loss,” she said. “Just down the boardwalk is the Trump Taj Mahal. Donald once called it the eighth wonder of the world. It filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Things got so bad the new management canceled workers’ health insurance and pensions.”
Clinton argued that the billionaire can’t do the job for American workers and businesses — and that Atlantic City knows that best.
“Now ask yourself, according to the Donald, isn’t he supposed to be some kind of amazing businessman? So it’s fair to ask, since he is applying for a job, what in the world happened here?” she asked. “Now his excuse for all this failure is that Atlantic City just went downhill, that it’s not his fault. But don’t believe it. His businesses were failing long before the rest of the town was struggling. In fact, other than businesses here did worse because Donald Trump acted so irresponsibly.”

Wow, that took almost two minutes of googling! Ever hear the thing about horses and water? or was the English not plain enough?
