Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

The revolution will be supervised.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

… gradually, and then suddenly.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

From commentor and determined party-sparker Yutsano:

I just got jostled by H.E. Wolf to remind folks I’ll be in the Seattle area from January 26-29. I’m staying just north of the airport but I can travel anywhere.

My appointment is at 8am on Tuesday and I may be doing brunch with a friend on Sunday morning but otherwise I am totally wide open. Let’s spread the word and see what happens!

Thanks, Anne Laurie and Yutsano – looking forward to it.

ruemara, if you’re in the area this weekend and have time/energy for a rendezvous before you head back home, it would be great to see you. I’ll send A.L. my contact info.

I should be there around Saturday afternoon, and I’m totally good with a Saturday thing as long as I can catch a nap first.

We have a clay class on Saturday afternoon, but after that we are free. Would love to see some jackals again.

Also free Saturday evening. Anywhere near the light rail is best for me since my partner will have the car and I’ll be driving the old, and sorta tough to park, pickup. Columbia City (4th stop from the airport) has a couple quiet Thai restaurants that are a good deal for quality food: Chandala Thai and Spice Room. There’s a good Mexican, for Seattle, as well.

If you are driving there are a few areas that are nuts for parking: most of downtown, Belltown, Capitol Hill, and lower Queen Anne. They also tend to be pricey and noisy – the latest “trend”. A couple places on the east side of Capitol Hill are exceptions for parking, price, and noise levels: Talalulahs (haven’t been on a weekend), Monsoon (a bit spendy), and Zeeks Pizza (haven’t been on a weekend, so may be different).

@CaseyL: I can’t do the afternoon. We have a thing in Kenmore starting at 2pm and lasting until about 5. After that we’re free.

@opiejeanne: Can you make it to Seattle by 6:30? Or, do you have some place in Bellevue that would be good?

OK: Let’s pick a place. where will people be coming in from?

@Dan B: Yeah: the whole core of the city is hopeless for parking. In the past we’ve done meetups in Burien and Lake City. The one exception was when Ruemara was in town, because she was staying downtown, so that’s where we met.

@H.E.Wolf: Great food, but Belltown is ghastly to park in.

Ahhg, can’t do Saturday, our work holiday party is that night (it’s event rentals, so no way we can do it during the holidays). Sorry to miss seeing everyone, but hope you all have a great time!

@CaseyL: I’m coming up from Tukwila, so I’m good with wherever. I could theoretically catch the train north since the Thai place sounds lovely.
