Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republicans do not trust women.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Ah, but Hillary is a liar – so if she says she’s not running, she must really BE running.
    (/snark)
Seriously, when’s the last time somebody who lost one election tried for a re-match, and won? Pity the poor hack columnists will need to replace “Hillary Clinton” with “Elizabeth Warren” in their column generation macros.

What Baud said, above, but also this too ….

Response rates in telephone surveys have resumed their decline

In 2017 and 2018, typical telephone survey response rates fell to 7% and 6%, respectively, according to the Center’s latest data. Response rates had previously held steady around 9% for several years.

With the youngs land line free it is getting ever more difficult to get a representative sample.

Anyway, at this point in time I am not supporting anyone but I am donating to candidates who might have a lower profile but whose voice I want to hear in the first debate. Think the requirement is 1% in the polls or 65,000 donors across 20 states.

Keith Olbermann in his heyday on MSNBC would ruthlessly mock and belittle Hannity. At first it was amusing, but then it got kind of sad, like watching the smart kids in the class picking on the big dumb jock because he was such an easy target. How the fuck Hannity has survived this long in the same shtick is a testimony to a good grift – you sell every last shred of your soul and your dignity, and apparently still get paid on a regular basis.

90% of them are running for VP/next time/a cabinet post/whatever. It is, unfortunately, just how it goes.

@RepubAnon: As far as rematches, off the top of my head, Grover Cleveland defeated Benjamin Harrison in 1892 after losing the electoral college but winning the popular vote in 1888, Andrew Jackson had the same thing happen in 1828 and 1824, respectively, and the only other rematch I can think of under the current system is Ike beating Adlai Stevenson twice in a row. I think Jefferson and Adams ran against each other twice in a row, but those were the days when the runner-up became VP.
