“partisan rage coursing through their veins…”
Mr. Kennedy has a way with words. But did he forget his teeth?
Leto
David Perdue speaking right now says that, “Even corruption, under these definitions (under the Constitution) don’t qualify for Impeachment.” Like… a;lkjasdfpo;ijhuag;lkhas
These. Mother. Fuckers.
Jeffro
@germy: Speaking for all 70M of us, Sen Kennedy, we’re okay with a little partisan rage. Or a lot, actually.
Seeya in November, clown!
debbie
@germy:
A rage no less than that from the GOP when a black man won the presidency. Grrrr.
It’s like they’ve totally forgotten how they all got together while Obama was being sworn in and agreed on 100% obstruction.
Leto
David Perdue talking about how when articles are sent over, that the Senate “BY LAW” has to stop everything it’s doing, all legislation, and take up impeachment. Like the fucking Senate has done anything for the past 6 years, except pass a massive tax windfall and stock the courts with conservative judges.

@Leto:
Hey, they did try to repeal the PPACA, and take away our right to health insurance, even with pre-existing conditions.
But for reasons, he took to the grave, McCain saved us all in the final AHCA vote.

My way of coping is to look toward the future. :/
There’s a good chance my cousin’s child will be going to college in Georgia. He is 17 now and will turn 18 in July. I do not know how to frame, “Happy 18th birthday, this is how you register to vote and this is what you need to do so! Also there’s a history in the US of the government taking away your right to vote!”
Or I could just get him a xkcd book. Thoughts?
Leto
@gene108: Yeah, true shining examples of legislative leaders.
WaterGirl
I have tried to watch every day, but I have finally lost heart.
Cheryl, I hope your lunch meetup was nice, anyway!

@WaterGirl: We have a few inches of snow, so we postponed!
Shakti
@germy: See, I wish Schumer was a little more obstructionist and partisan. I don’t think the Senate Dems were obstructionist enough. Of course IOKIYAR, but I’m tired of this crap about partisanship from the most partisan, divisive party ever.

The previous thread mentioned that Rand Paul several times mentioned the name of the whistleblower. Was that allowed on the live feeds?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
a thankless and forgettable job, but it just occurred to me that I, diagnosed twitter-internet-MSNBC political junkie, haven’t heard who is going to deliver the Dem response to The Beast tonight.
John Bolton has about four or five hours to make my prediction of him being the skunk at trump’s picnic come true
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Shakti:
What would that have looked like?
Mnemosyne
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
I think that the new(ish) governor of Michigan is doing the official Democratic response. And of course Wilmer is going to give his stump speech as an “independent response.” ?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Mnemosyne: ah, thanks
and, oh for fuck’s sake
EthylEster
“wrongly-named Senator John Kennedy”?
I thought we got past JFK worship several decades ago.

@Shakti
Voter registration forms aren’t that difficult to come by. Don’t know about where you are but there’s one in every phone book here. Probably a way to access them online and print them out, too. Buy him a fancy-schmancy new pen (traditional graduation gift anyway), then sit down with him to use it to fill it out together and take him to a mailbox.
dp
No big deal. Trust me, John Neely Kennedy has nothing to stay that is worth hearing.
WaterGirl
@Cheryl Rofer: I wish we would get some snow!
If you don’t pick a Tuesday, it sounds like the Zoe person could likely join you.
WaterGirl
@Mnemosyne: An independent response from someone running to lead the democratic party. I may never stop being enraged.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@Shakti: Send your nephew to vote.gov. He selects where he lives and is given instructions on how to register there. Best of luck to him in his new life!

@WaterGirl: It’s been snowing for hours here in semi-rural King County, just east of Seattle. None of it is sticking because the ground is too warm. I think it’s 33 degrees here, but our temp reader and the nearby weather station disagree.

@WaterGirl: I know, I feel like Bernie and his minions are just rubbing our noses in it.

@EthylEster:
You don’t have to worship a hound dog to know how it compares to pig shit.

@WaterGirl: I think we are out of the Tues mode. I’m tied up the next 3 Tuesdays, then off to Gallup. Snow still coming down. I walked 45 minutes for a pedigreed hot sipping chocolate. We mixed the NM Chile chocolate elixir with Havana Rum 70% Chocolate, organic almond milk, rum, citrus. I freely admit that I have First World Problems. ?
John Revolta
@pat: Paul keeps doing this. I think this is like the third time. I wonder what’s behind this……….?

@EthylEster:
JFK had his issues, but he was a genuine war hero, taking a plywood PT boat against the Imperial Japanese Navy, in the dark. That’s bravery past my understanding, actually. He didn’t go crazy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which showed calm resolve to me.
Probably the worst act he took was allowing the Bay of Pigs mission to go forward into a horror show, perhaps the least well planned mission the CIA ever undertook, having drunk their own Koolaid regarding Castro hate. Of course that was planned by Eisenhower appointees and Kennedy was pressured into allowing it to continue.
We have no way to guess what he might have accomplished had the fascists in Dallas not worked up their extreme hate for him.
When I was a kid, modest working class homes I visited had 3 portraits on their living room wall: Jesus Christ, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Two out of three ain’t bad.
WaterGirl
@Quinerly: That sounds lovely!
Shakti
@Dorothy A. Winsor: @NotMax: Thanks ! That’s a good suggestion! That way I’m not pestering him and his parents about where he’s going anyways. (It’s a bit of a sore spot because they were expecting him to go to an Ivy. He was telling me that the furthest away he applied was Northeastern. I warned him his mother might make a surprise road trip visit if he ends up at UGA.) I’m in central Florida and I don’t know when I’ll be up in Atlanta again.
