Love that picture of Kamala! Looking forward to her being our Vice President!

Unlike when Trump goes there, Biden does not besmirch the consecrated ground.
ThresherK
I don’t know how many years I have left on this planet.
For once I’d like a Dem succeeding a Republican in the White House to just be able to govern instead of needing to clean up the shit after an elephant parade.
Old School
@ThresherK: Hopefully Biden will be the last one.

@ThresherK: It’s part of the fundamental political dynamics of the US, I’m afraid. The party with the Presidency shifts from D to R because most people are doing basically OK but they got bored, and they like lower taxes and are kinda racist. It shifts from R to D because the Republicans fucked up so bad the people can’t take it any more.

@trollhattan: I know Fat Bastard put on a ridiculous sideshow at Mount Rushmore, but did he actually venture near Gettysburg? I don’t recall seeing anything.

I am watching Joe’s speech on MSNBC. I think he sounds great. Unlike Trump, it seems like he has seen the words on the teleprompter before. He’s appealing to Americans to come together and heal our divisions. Very effective in my view.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mike in NC: No sure if he’s been to Gettysburg, but there was talk about doing his acceptance speech there.
Baud
@ThresherK: We need to hold Congress in 2022 (assuming we get it this year). The best years in the 20th Century occurred when the Dems were in full control of the federal government. We can deal with blue dogs. We can’t deal with Republicans.
Immanentize
@Eunicecycle: Agree. It really might be so cool if we all pull this Biden/Harris thing off.
KnowLittle
That was a great speech.
Anoniminous
Bringing forward some really good news (if accurate.)
The Hill reporting:
“The Democratic nominee has run up a 27-point lead among seniors, who are among the highest-risk groups susceptible to serious cases of the coronavirus.”

@KnowLittle: I’m about 15 minutes behind, but wow, it’s great. Powerful. Such a strong contrast from the orange disease.

Great speech. Showing America what a real president sounds like.

And then getting blamed for not moving fast enough…

I have noticed the last few years that fashion magazines often have excellent election and other political coverage. Those women writers and editors think and ask and challenge. They don’t coast through on memes.
I am going to rethink all my subscription choices.
Chetan Murthy
@Sab: Not a teen. But geez, Teen Vogue does a better job than Chuckles the Toddler. [I know, I know: soft bigotry of low expectations.] I mean, I know the name Lauren Duca, b/c of her work there. And I’ve never read anything by her except her tweets (after I heard of her articles).
Miss Bianca
@Sab: “Elle” and “Teen Vogue” have both been doing some great socio-political coverage.

If that’s true, it’s big trouble and it definitely puts FL in play. I haven’t seen reporting that Stepien is gearing up to staunch the bleed here, so either they’re not concerned for some reason (i.e. they’re confident they can stop mail-in ballots), or they’re scared shitless, but their candidate is an insane, dex-addled moron who insists that their message is that only whiny little bitches who don’t have the guts to MAGA succumb to Covid.
What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?
@Baud: I would definitely be nice to hold onto unified power through an off year election.
I’m not here to defend H.W. but, while there was a mild recession on when Clinton won, I wouldn’t describe the nation as a mess back then. But that was nearly 3 decades ago. In 2024 and even 2028, I’m assuming “remember what happened last time those jokers were in charge, and then remember the time before that too” will be part of the message.
Chetan Murthy
An excellent and inspiring speech. I especially liked his returning over and over to the experience of Black Americans, and his returning over and over to condemning and opposing white supremacy and extremism. The part starting at 18 minutes was excellent. I was pleased that he chose Gettysburg for this speech. The symbolism of the place, reflects the thrust of his speech.
And last: the man has good speechwriters *grin*.
Chetan Murthy
“God bless you all and may God protect our troops”. And I know he means it, b/c he’s walked that walk.
Miss Bianca
@jonas: Stepien also has the ‘rona right now, doesn’t he? It’s possible – just possible – that he’s not thinking any more clearly right now than his boss.

We got a fundraising phone call just a few minutes ago, a nice well spoken guy calling on behalf of a LA congressional candidate. I told him regretfully that we had really spent all we could afford for this election cycle, thanked him for his work phone banking for his candidate.
The he told me that if I hadn’t heard Joe Biden’s speech at Gettysburg, that I should look it up, it was great. I thanked him for the tip. We mutually hoped that the Democratic candidates would sweep a huge victory, I wished both the caller and his candidate a great October. Interesting call.

That was an awesome speech. Listening to that and to Michelle Obama’s Closing Argument has been soul- cleansing and soul-stirring.
eclare
That speech was inspirational, and Joe delivered it perfectly. Everyone on Nicole’s show loved it.

Except for the moral rot; H.W. was instrumental in selling dope smuggled by the government into this country, to pay for munitions, given as secret ransom, to send to our enemies.
West Texan 70
@brantl: Small potatoes these days … ;)
brantl
@West Texan 70: Where do you think that they got the idea that they could get away with this kind of shit? If they had put Tricky Dick in prison, where he belonged, all of these assholes that got this started (Darth Cheney, Dumbsfeld, et al) would have had the convict stink on them, and maybe we would have avoided all this, but good ol’ Gerry Ford pardoned the son of a bitch.
West Texan 70
@brantl: Too true.
I kinda hope that Biden plays “Uncle Joe” for the cameras, but appoints a bunch of snarling wolverines to root out all the trumpanzees in government and send a few high-ranking lawbreakers to jail.
I’m looking at you, Wilbur Ross, Jason Miller, and Elaine Chou. You thought that with the surfeit of trump family and friends, we’d forget about you? Not hardly.
