Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

This really is a full service blog.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Everybody saw this coming.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

LOL WATCH: BREAKING: McCarthy Won't Back Jan. 6 Commission That Was Negotiated at His Direction and on His Behalf https://t.co/puFFJFVdzn

— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) May 18, 2021

McCarthy had John Katkto (R-NY-24) negotiate the deal. Katko voted for the second Trump impeachment and represents a Syracuse D+2 district that he’s kept maddeningly out of the reach of Democrats since the useless Dan Maffei couldn’t hold it in 2014. Even though I agree with Adam that the commission was the sleeves of a vest, if McCarthy really wanted an even shittier deal, or better yet for him, no deal, he should have asked someone else to negotiate it.

What a useless bozo.

    Well, at least this Commission probably won’t pass, otherwise giving Republicans a chance to further muddy the waters under an “official, bipartisan” manner, right?

    Do the agreements to set this Commission up need to pass the Senate filibuster?

    Pelosi should have just gone with plain ole House Committees doing the investigation so they wouldn’t have to do the Kabuki dance that is coming all to end up with squat.  At least committees run by Democrats would have been able to get information and reach conclusions.  Even though Fox News would blather 24/7 that the committees were partisan.  Like they don’t do that anyhow.

    What is so endearing about McCarthy is he doesn’t realize that a GQP House in 2022 would drop him cold for a true racist like whip Steve Scalise.

    @topclimber:

    McCarthy is a true racist. During the 2018 elections, he wrote that Michael Bloomberg, Tom Steyer, and George Soros were trying to buy the election. No prizes for guessing why he singled out those three.

    He also demanded Ilhan Omar’s resignation for an allegedly (by Republicans) anti-Semitic remark. No prizes for guessing why he thinks he deserves the benefit of the doubt and Omar doesn’t.

    What I’d like to know is: why is McCarthy not asked about this every time he’s in front of a microphone?

    “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

    Some of the lawmakers laughed at McCarthy’s comment. Then McCarthy quickly added: “Swear to God.”

    Ryan instructed his Republican lieutenants to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks. . . . This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

    Don’t let him forget it.

    It’s good to see McCarthy continue to show Republicans can’t negotiate in good faith. It makes it easier for Democrats to ignore him when he whines about bipartisanship, which he wouldn’t know if it slapped him in the face.

    @clay:

    My father read some article or saw a video recently where a reporter from CNN on the air tried to ask Louie Gohmert some questions and he was incredibly belligerent with them, didn’t want to answer any questions, and eventually snapped at the reporter to “stop following me!” or words to that effect.

    I imagine McCarthy would ignore the question. They all act like their invincible and bullet-proof for some reason now

    Glad we wasted time doing something that everyone knew was doomed from the start.

    Dems are wasting time for stupid reasons. It doesn’t matter if you get the GOP to approve the commission. They would run against it anyways and call it all the things they would have called it even if they didn’t setup the rules themselves.

    it’s a fools errand. It’s been a fools errand for DECADES!!!

    @Edmund Dantes: It may be that your are correct, and Pelosi and Schumer went into negotiations with the Republicans expecting that they would agree to put together a commission that would investigate 1/6 in good faith and with all diligence, and with the support of Republican leadership, and they were totally blindsided by McCarthy’s knee-jerk rejection of the commission at Trump’s behest.

    Or it may be that Pelosi and Schumer had a pretty good idea that this is exactly what would happen, with the expectation that after Republican leadership sank the proposed commission, they could say, “Look, we tried to put together a bi-partisan commission to investigate the insurrection, we bent over backwards to incorporate Republican demands, but they completely rejected it.  We had no choice but to move forward with investigations by House and Senate committees.  It is entirely the fault of Republicans that those investigations are only being undertaken by Democrats.”

    @Edmund Dantes:

    Dems are wasting time for stupid reasons. It doesn’t matter if you get the GOP to approve the commission.

    What the Dem leadership here did was publicly hold out their hand for a bi-partisan proposal, and then let the Republicans very publicly slap it away.  It wasted very little time and made the Republicans look like asses.  The Dems will end up at the same point(probably a House committee, but it won’t look like a partisan witch hunt, since they tried to do it in a non partisan fashion first.

    I want Quevan McCarthy to testify also too, but not in front of video cameras at a House Committee.

    I want the SOB to testify in the secret privacy of a Grand Jury, where if when he lies he goes to jail. Fuck that rat bastard traitor… he should be expelled from congress for his treason and sedition, and total failure to adhere to his oath of office. Along with many other GQP office holders.

    So want the indictments of senior Republikkkans to begin. Along with the military people who hindered the release of the National Guard to the besieged Capitol. Fuck all of those Southern Racist bastards!

    OT a bit, but really disappointing to me that TPM has gone to a 100% pay-per-view site now. Here and TPM were always my go-tos. TPM is off the list now ?. Especially of how many ads they ran – didn’t really mind that as gotta pay for the site. But Josh could not make money off that with the number of viewers there? I’m betting that they’ll switch back within 6 months as they bleed hits.
