Looks like someone behind the scenes at Fox 10 does not like Kari Lake and has had it with her "Christian values." pic.twitter.com/OA4reJQa1r (via @celsius)
— Amee Vanderpool (@girlsreallyrule) August 20, 2022
She seems nice! You just see her conservative Christian values using out in this very short video outtake from when she was an anchor on FOX, even when she thinks no one is watching. Well something is oozing, anyway.
In case you don’t know her by name, Kari Lake is the nut job running for governor of Arizona against current governor Secretary of State, Katie Hobbs. Just one of the many reasons we will be doing some more fundraising for AZ for 2022 and as a firewall for 2024. Doug and I will start with that fundraising after we (hopefully) meet out $25,000 goal for Nevada. $75,000 with the double-match!
Speaking of which, we still have $200 left on the $2,000 angel match and then the $2,000 goes into the thermometer and we will be halfway to $25k. With an angel match, up to $50 of your donation gets multiplied by 6!
There are no more BJ angel matches waiting in the wings. But how knows, maybe someone will come forward? If not, a double-match is still awesome.
Open thread.
Updated to add a bit more info about the timing of the video and the Katie Hobbs info.

With no one else putting anything up, and no action in the back room, I feel like Anne Laurie for the day.
On the other hand, I put up a post last night and John put one up 8 minutes later and then Anne Laurie gave him 12 minutes before putting hers up. So maybe we’ll have a repeat performance of that.

I’m not surprised that she’s a potty mouth.
I guess that guy is an anchor or something for the station? If anyone has a doubt that they’re not “fair and balanced” this should disabuse them of the notion. The station management should call him on the carpet and make him apologize to their viewers, if they really were “fair and balanced”.
Of course it won’t, but it should.
Can you imagine Walter Cronkite (or any pre-Ailes TV talking head) telling some political candidate how to handle something in a campaign before the cameras start rolling? OMG, we’d still be hearing about it…
IOW, it’s a day ending in “y” in MurdochLand.
Cheers,
Scott.
WaterGirl
@SiubhanDuinne: I have never seen the movie, so I listened to the song just now.
KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager))
So I threw in $25 for NV. Maybe it will get the ball rolling for more contributions for AZ. I’d really like to get to the point where we’re raising $$ against that Lake broad (that’s not the ‘b’ word I was thinking) and Masters.
I’m feeling positive about November, but not complaisant. At. All.
Felanius Kootea
@Another Scott: Apparently the clip is from when she was still his co-anchor on that network.
Another Scott
@Felanius Kootea: Oh, ok.
rofl [snort]
Yeah, I guess someone at the station has it in for her. :-)
Cheers,

Katie Hobbs is not the current governor. Katie Hobbs is the Secretary of State, which is the second-highest job in the state, because Arizona doesn’t have a Lieutenant Governor. Doug Ducey is the current and outgoing governor.
SiubhanDuinne
I’m a little curious about the Kari Lake clip. Did she not know that she was on? Perhaps I’m misremembering, but I thought she was a media person and should have known from Day One that every camera is rolling and every mic is hot. (Actually, even if she isn’t a media professional, as a political candidate she ought to know that.)
I hope the AZ press, the national press, and the Hobbs campaign all attack her mercilessly. Let AZ voters know that Lake’s attitude is, in so many words, “FUCK THEM.” Said with a sneer.

In for $100.
Kari Lake and the other AZ GOP nominees are overachievers in arrogance and sadism. Do they have friends who’d care one bit for them if they didn’t have money and status?*
*Signs point to No Fucking WAY!
And it’s great that someone at FOX kept this clip from when she was an anchor.
azlib
It seems Kari Lake is not doing the usual thing and tacking to the middle here in AZ for the general election. I always thought she was a cynical opporuntist, but I think she is starting to believe her own sh!t. Keep in mind here in AZ, independents outnumber Republicans and you have to appeal to them to win a statewise race.
WaterGirl
@Another Scott: I think that might have been from back when she was on TV? And someone released that recently?
WaterGirl
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)): Thank you for that!
Yes, positive but not complacent is where I stand, too.

Is Kari Lake the popular pretty rich girl in high school who would cut you?
Signs point to Abso-fucking-lutely!
Jinchi
Does anyone know what Kari Lake and the other anchor were referring to? What was the blowback they were trying to avoid?
Geminid
@azlib: Lately Republican politicians generally seem to be breaking the typical pattern of tacking to the middle after winning a primary. Maybe they are themselves caught up in the radicalism, or maybe they think their radical base won’t tolerate it.
Either way, I think this is good for the Democratic candidates.
Suzanne
@WaterGirl: No worries, it happens.
Kari Lake sucks. Katie Hobbs has some problems in her campaign — apparently her campaign manager is abusive to work for — but Kari Lake is fucking terrifying.
It’s weird. Kari Lake was a local news anchor for years. I had no idea she was psycho.
MagdaInBlack
@SiubhanDuinne: I remember my mother going to see a production of Fiddler in Chicago when I was maybe 10. ( 1968 ) Of course, then the album was purchased and I knew all the words to all the songs. The lovely “Sunrise, Sunset” was sung at my wedding 😊

@Geminid: The whispered stories are that some of the GOP House members who, just in general terms, might want to tack more towards the middle or ‘do a bipartisan’ now and then get threats from their own looney base.
I know it’s hard to imagine that whipped up, ignorant, siloed people with a lot of guns can get twitchy. But they’re not always just twitchy for Dems (as Mike Pence knows too well. I hope he finds the thing that in other people looks like a moral center to show up and answer questions for the J6C.).

Summer music . . .
Here’s an old one to get started: the Lovin’ Spoonful, “Coconut Grove.” I’ve always loved this for the languid, plangent guitar of Zal Yanovsky (RIP, died in 2002, age 57), and I like the homemade film in this YouTube clip.
I went down to Rehoboth Beach last week and had a very enjoyable long weekend with the Sighthound Hall mob and my crazy brother from Las Vegas, who motored in in his gigantic Ford pickup with equally gigantic camper top. There was also a Brazilian-American couple there with their two teenage daughters. One night we were talking about all of our varied musical tastes and influences, and someone brought up the phenomenon when you hear a song for the first time years or decades after it came out, and you wonder HTF did you miss it?
That reminded me of the Go-Betweens, “Streets of Your Town” (1988). I heard this a year or two ago and was blown away. It has a summer feel to me.
That sort of reminds me of another one from a few years ago that has a nice summer feeling: Durand Jones and the Indications, “Sea Gets Hotter.”
I don’t know if this one fits, but it has been kicking around in my brain tonight: Tennis, “Borrowed Time.”
ETA: I don’t want this thread to die now that Cole has posted!

@Suzanne: I’ve linked this a few times this week, but this is worth the listen, or you can read the transcript.

Another gorgeous song, and a nice choice for a wedding. I’ll bet the parents and grandparents were very misty-eyed.
I also love “Tradition.”

I believe that Lake is the primary instigator of the so-called “Cyber Ninja” audit of the 2020 election, alleging discrepancies on how Hobbs ran the 2020 election.
So, lets say that this may be a bit personal as well.
Lake was defeated by McSally for the eventual John McCain seat, who in turn was defeated by Kelly.
The entire slate of statewide positions are Trumpists, from Governor, Senator, Secretary of State and AG.
there are already dark money ads hitting the critical WOF ad space that are anti-GOP candidacy.
I’ll also say that a LOT of independents were less than pleased with the Cyber-ninja audit and naturally, taxpayers had to pay the bill, courtesy of the GOP lege. The GOP is mostly running the same old schtick, Immigration and the economy. The dark money ads are noting that Lake has statements on the books regarding legalizing personal rocket launchers and nailing Masters on his abortion positions.
while they are busy working the rez and other areas for getting voters registered, I kind of get the feeling that the mushy middle is starting to turn to our side as the extreme positions that they are pointing out are full of clips of the candidates mouthing those statements, so not much case of claims of being misquoted.

No fishing for me this time. Strictly lazy and lazing around. Plus I don’t have an active FIN (Fisherman Information Network) number. @Jim, Foolish Literalist: I think the key is that people who worked with her only have her back in the sense that they are happy to stab her in the back by releasing this.

They have charter boats out of Lewes (next town up), and Bro’ Man used to talk about doing that, but now the consensus is that the kids would (a) get bored, (b) disrupt things for everyone else or (c) fall overboard or (more likely) cause someone else to fall overboard. And he and I were the only ones in the social group who were enthusiastic about it.
Finally, I have to say that as the poster boy for skin cancer I tend to avoid long periods of sun exposure in highly reflective environments.

I think the nephew might get interested in basic rod-and-reel fishing when he gets a little older.

There’s a reason why the GOP Senatorial campaign committee has thrown the candidates from AZ, NV, PA, and WI under the bus. They’re disasters in bluish/purple states. So, now they’re going to pour $28 million into J.D. Vance’s campaign in Ohio, a state Trump won by 9, which means it ought to be a slam dunk. AZ and PA have the additional benefit of having two openly fascist GOP gubernatorial candidates weighing down their tickets. Democrats are praying this means that they have a shot at winning their legislatures.

@MagdaInBlack: Another vote for “Summertime Thing”
I was just thinking of my favorite summer driving songs. I have done a lot of driving for my kayak trips. When I first get started and leaving town I like Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam” while the traffic is heavy but still moving well. On the road favorites are James McMurtry’s “Choctaw Bingo”, Dire Straits “Sultans of Swing” – the long live version off Alchemy, and The War on Drugs ” An Ocean in between the Waves”. Have to keep an eye on my speed when those are playing
