It is a supreme honor to be up there with HinTN!
ETA: And I salute your eloquence!
WaterGirl
Mousebumples sent this image of her recent postcards, too.

PostCards look great!
Got yer red hot addresses folks. Fresh from the GA SoS.
And free designs you can download and print. (Like the one above from HinTN)
Click on my nym. Head over to PostCardPatriots.com. Or, party time, just email [email protected].

Music? My linky pinky is non-functional, but:
– Peter Gabriel, Biko, Playing for change, should get one in the mood (not THAT kinda mood);
– Also PG, New Blood, San Jacinto

I love that everyone does their postcards a little differently. Even if some household received two, they would see the personalities that come through.
Because of the holiday weekend, I think this will be our last postcard writing party & music thread. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep writing postcards!

@Dangerman: I snuck a link in there for Playing for Change.

I admit I am a BTS fan, but I loved this anthem that opened the World Cup, featuring Jung Kook of BTS with Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi. So upbeat and lovely and full of hope. Maybe it’ll be true, who knows?

Thanks to everyone who has done and continues to do election work. You are on the side of justice, and so far I really believe we’ve made a difference.

Today was a bit of a stress-out, so no postcards for me tonight. Tomorrow!
WaterGirl
Hoping MazeDancer will jump in with the info about deadlines for mailing Postcard Patriots postcards.
dkinPa
Great postcards! Love seeing what everyone does! Looking forward to checking out the music.
WaterGirl
@MazeDancer: I didn’t see you there at #3!
Would you mind posting the info about last days to mail your postcards?
That way we’ll have info about deadlines for both Postcard Patriots and Postcards to Voters in the same thread.

@WaterGirl:
Would mail by this Friday or Saturday. But that means write ’em on Friday, get your houseguests in on the fun. And take ’em to the post office on Saturday morning.
Otherwise, they won’t ship out til Monday. If you live in GA, Monday if a fine day to mail.
Early voting starts Nov 28th. So, clearly if you mail on the 25th, you’ll miss that.
Mail is a mess. The holidays increase that mess. And GA is being deluged with PostCards. So do not go to the trouble of writing PostCards and then skimp on the mailing.
Will repeat the only PostCard I ever got as a voter arrived a week after the election.
HinTN
@H.E.Wolf: As it is my pleasure and honor to be front paged with you! As far as deadlines go, I mailed my last 40 Monday. It’s up to the Boots on the Ground now! Thank you, WaterGirl for all that fundraising.
H.E.Wolf
With thanks to WaterGirl, for orchestrating so many GOTV activities this year: “Baby, You Knock Me Out” (from the 1955 film It’s Always Fair Weather).
“What a dame, what a dame!
She belongs in the Hall of Fame!”
Special mention to the costume designer for a (seemingly) narrow skirt… that isn’t.
Skip to 2:50 if you want to get right into the action.

One I’ll add later got me on a mellow autumn month thread. September seems to have the most, November the least.

I’m here – late to the thread, but here!
Thanks to all of you for writing postcards with me!
My house got 2 postcards in October – both were addressed to the previous homeowner though, lol.
Postcards are a fun way to feel like I’m doing *something*. Tonight, tomorrow, and then Monday I’ll be doing most postcards. Even if we don’t have a dedicated thread, I’ll be imagining some of you writing postcards along with me!
H.E.Wolf
@HinTN: The two H’s – when we pedal in tandem, nothing is impossible!

@Mousebumples: I should be finishing up my little batch then too.

Something cheerful and colorful from an amazing a cappella group: Pentatonix performing “Come Along.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8rT6ij0PSo
Going back quite a few years, how about Dinah Shore singing “Brotherhood of Man,” from the musical “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” She’s joined by Georgia Brown, Sam Fletcher, Barbra Streisand, and the Chad Mitchell Trio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXbg7q1vTUY
The comical songwriting duo Paul and Storm exhorting George R. R. Martin to “Write Like the Wind,” a song written 10 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7lp3RhzfgI . As one of the comments notes (from three years ago): It is 2019 and this has now gone from being hilarious, to sad, all the way back to hilarious again but in a totally different way.

@prostratedragon: Another one September grass

@PaulB:
Is the Dinah Shore from her tv show (I’ve got something else on the stream at the moment)? I think I remember seeing that.
WaterGirl
Goku sent some postcard pics in, too!

@NotMax:
It’s hard to believe that human fingers can do this.
HinTN
@WaterGirl: Hey, Jake – You missed your chance to say, “Vote early, vote often!” 😎 Good on you for writing!
PaulB
@prostratedragon: Good memory. The clip is indeed from Dinah Shore’s television show. There are also a couple of clips on YouTube of Streisand performing “Cry Me a River” and “Happy Days Are Here Again” from that same show, both worth watching.

Point of origin: “November,” Catherine Russell

@PaulB: Aha! That probably checks, then. I liked her show and often watched it.

Overture from “The Bartered Bride,” by Bedrich Smetana. A live performance by the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Mariss Jansons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLUm_yvnyo4 . Amazing technical facility and lyricism.
HinTN
@NotMax: I can’t read that damn fast but good on Glinka! Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.

Had been thinking earlier about doing all months, not just autumn one. Couldn’t come up with anything for many of the months, but thought of one item for March;<)
from It’s Always Fair Weather, about the testy reunion of three Army vets.
MazeDancer
@WaterGirl:
Nicely done, Goku!
Also, good photography.

Trigger warning: Christmas music!
A unique arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High” (plus snippets of other Christmas carols), as performed by The Piano Guys duo and 2 friends utilizing a single piano. They use string from a violin bow to play the piano strings, use a dulcimer hammer to tap them, pluck and tap them with their fingers, plus playing the piano in the traditional way, providing percussion by tapping the piano sounding board, and singing along. A really remarkable arrangement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n543eKIdbUI
Mousebumples
@WaterGirl: nice concise messaging, Goku! Welcome to the Postcard GOTV team!
HinTN
@PaulB: The pre-positioned horsehair at the beginning was great. Also the upside down left hand in the middle. All in all, very enjoyable. I do love Christmas music.

My thanks and appreciation to all the post card writers.
Just finished going through my notes on a lecture I gave on Amelia Earhart and this kept running through my head

@MazeDancer: Thank you for the addresses. I sent my postcards yesterday. I find the blank USPS cards to be good, since I can address the stamped side with the voter’s name, and have a blank canvas for the message on the other side (I also drew a stylized green balloon in the upper left corner).
@WaterGirl: Thanks for your help in sorting out the photo of Floyd for the Pet Calendar. I’m grateful, as are we all, for all you do.
Finally, since it’s upon us, and we await the results of the Georgia runoff, a classic from King’s College Cambridge:

PRINT YOUR CARDS! NO CURSIVE! YOUNGER PEOPLE CAN’T READ CURSIVE, or don’t want to try. Also some middle aged people. How old are you people, anyway?

Lots of great music on this thread.

@WaterGirl: Very nice, Goku!

Oh well, I ended up having to work tonight* so I’m missing this thread. But I’ve got postcards and addresses and I’ll get 25 out by Friday. Enjoy yourselves!
* yes I’m retired but I stayed part time. There are three big deliverables due next week that I used to work on so I’m helping to take the load off my friends. And making a little extra $$ for Xmas too.
VFX Lurker
I just summoned ten addresses from the automated Postcards to Voters system. Will start writing postcards now.
Mousebumples
@VFX Lurker: awesome! I just got 10 done tonight. I tried 2 different (landscape) arrangements for the text… Before going back to what I had above.
I’m debating how well I can write (neatly) during our hour long drive on Thanksgiving. 🤔
middlelee
@Hilfy: Oh please. If I have to print I will do 20 percent of what I can do writing. And my penmanship was trained by nuns so it’s legible even to the unlearned, entitled young
and how many have you printed and mailed?
WaterGirl
Another postcard, this one from BlueGuitarist! Love the colored pens!
MazeDancer
@WaterGirl: Looks great, Blue!
