I won’t link to it, but Trump people have released a doctored image of Trump in a fire uniform, on the ground at the World Trade Center, along with this lie.

Un-fucking-believable

Here’s a stamp-sized version of the image:

Un-fucking-believable 1

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

I am enraged, mostly because of this, with the added bonus of being on hold with Comcast, which always makes me want to scream.

One for Trump and one saying “Fuck Biden.” No doubt the a-hole driver constantly complains that Hollywood, leftists and the teacher’s union are a threat to the well-being of kids. Maybe the argument is that this portrayal of Trump  might appeal to that slice of the electorate that dismisses 80-year old Biden as too old but remains open to considering a ripped, 6-3, 215 lb, 77-year old in a fireman’s outfit.

In any event, it appears to be yet another instance of credulous rube donations spent propping up the morale of those same credulous rubes.  So I guess I approve, not that MAGA asked

Snopes  has a page on this and the other AI generated pics of Trump saving the world in ridiculous ways from this X account.

The image was originally published by the X account @Trump_History45, which in its profile description claimed to be “documenting the History of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.” Moreover, the exact same photo with the same caption was published by the same account one month earlier, on Aug. 11, 2023

    . . .

    (X user @Trump_History45)

The @Trump_History45 account frequently posts images generated by artificial intelligence, featuring Trump in absurd and improbable situations. “Donald Trump invents the wheel – 4th millennium BC,” another AI-generated image of Donald Trump from that account was captioned.

The photos and their captions are fake. But is it satire or trolling?

    ETA: or maybe both.

On the subject of 9/11, I’ve got a rant about “Patriot Day.”

The head of my agency (for another 95 days :-) sent out a broadcast email this morning that started off:

    My fellow colleagues,

Today we observe the solemn anniversary of a national tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. It’s called Patriot Day.

    1) “Patriot Day” is a terrible name. What could be less patriotic than a bunch of terrorists flying planes into buildings and killing thousands of Americans – enabled by our President ignoring a half-dozen increasingly hair-on-fire warnings from our intel community because he and his inner circle were already focused on Iraq, and besides, non-state terrorism was his Democratic predecessor’s thing, so he wanted to get away from thinking about that.

    Fuck George W. Bush.

    2) The President who did nothing to prepare for or prevent this disaster shouldn’t be able to choose the name for this day anyway.

    3) Not to mention, Bush flat-out said, just six months after 9/11/2001, that bin Laden wasn’t a concern of his anymore.  It took President Obama to finally track down and put an end to the man who killed nearly 3000 Americans.

    4) FDR had the right idea with Pearl Harbor. Did he call it anything like “Patriot Day”? Hell no, it was “a day that will live in infamy.”  This, too, was a day that will live in infamy.

    5) I was in fifth grade on the 22nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.  Of course there were ceremonies observing the anniversary, but in specific particular locations.  It wasn’t something that people felt the need to observe in some visible way all over the place.  It wasn’t on my school’s calendar in 1963 like the 9/11 anniversary is on my son’s school calendar.  (Of course on December 7, 1963, a more recent tragedy was still dominating our public thoughts. Maybe the better comparison would be to December 7, 1962. Same thing then.)  Maybe it helped that we’d decisively defeated Japan.

It’s time to let this one go, regardless of the name – but if we must observe it, let’s follow FDR’s example and refer to it as a day that will live in infamy.  Fuck George W. Bush, and fuck “Patriot Day.”

US approves updated COVID vaccines to rev up protection this fall

    By Lauran Neergaard

    Published: Sep 11, 2023 at 1:22 pm

WASHINGTON — The U.S. approved updated COVID-19 vaccines Monday, hoping to rev up protection against the latest coronavirus strains and blunt any surge this fall and winter.
The Food and Drug Administration decision opens the newest shots from Moderna and Pfizer and its partner BioNTech to most Americans even if they’ve never had a coronavirus vaccination. It’s part of a shift to treat fall updates of the COVID-19 vaccine much like getting a yearly flu shot.

There’s still another step: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must sign off. A CDC advisory panel is set to issue recommendations Tuesday on who most needs the updated shots. Vaccinations could begin later this week, and both the COVID-19 and flu shot can be given at the same visit.

Speaking of fake photos of Trump, remember all those students flipping the bird at Trump and booing him at the Iowa-Iowa State game?  Well a Trump fan has produced an alternate picture and audio that makes it appear as though there were only Trump fans in the stadium.  Link

One of the most popular pro-Donald Trump Twitter accounts altered the audio in a viral tweet over the weekend to hide the storm of booing the former president received at a Iowa college football game.

Guess which one the true believers believe to be true?

    @lowtechcyclist:

This, from the tenth anniversary of 9/11, is still my favorite post about it: https://3weirdsisters.wordpress.com/2011/09/11/no-death-porn-celebrations-for-me-thank-you/  The last two paragraphs:

So, ignore the horseshit you’ll hear from media outlets hoping to score a ratings boost with talk about how the events of that day 10 years ago “united” us.  It didn’t unite us in any way that would do anyone any good.  If you want to see the event that tells the story of what America has really become, you have to look at early September 2005, when as thousands of our poorest and most helpless citizens were clinging to life in a flooded ruin of a city, our media spent the first few days – while grandmothers were still drowning in their attics – fretting about how some people were losing stuff to looters.  And that was before the “blame the victims” rightwing media swung into full gear and we were treated to endless blather about how pointing out the obvious, that federal relief was a fucking joke, was “playing the blame game.”

If you want to see what this country REALLY is, look there.  In the absence of some foreign other to blame, we lost no time turning the victims into the villains.  That’s who we really are.  And that’s nothing to celebrate.

Good point.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell when your posts are serious and when they are mocking.  So I was being flippant because you usually are.

But that is, in reality,  what you are expressing concern about.  When is it good to mock and when is it important to point out the facts to those who aren’t sure.  When is making parody accounts go viral okay when the other side is making them go viral as well, but for the opposite reason?

This is why I am a little worried that this account as not a parody account but an account from a foreign troll farm to stir up divisiveness.  That is done every day on X, and this Trump History account is anonymous and has a blue check.  So we actually have similar concerns that an over-the-top reaction may not be the best reaction.

    Never forget!:

There’s something else I will never forget about that time. How our senator, Hillary Clinton, stood with us to ensure first responders, like me, got the funding and the health care we needed. I remember seeing her down at Ground Zero, reassuring us that she would do everything in her power to make sure we had the support we needed. Hillary kept her promise. She understands the sacrifices we made that terrible day and the months that followed, and she understands the sacrifices people who serve their communities make every day.

And when we needed someone to speak for us, to stand with us, to fight on our behalf, Hillary Clinton was there, every step of the way. Within 48 hours of the towers falling, Hillary introduced a bill—signed into law—that helped first responders get the benefits they earned easier and faster. Then she pressured the [Environmental Protection Agency] to launch a new task force and led congressional hearings until the EPA admitted the air hadn’t been safe. A lot of people moved on; they thought everything was fine. But Hillary Clinton kept in touch and kept at it. Ten years later, Hillary Clinton was still our toughest champion, making sure we still got our health benefits.

    @tobie:

What the heck? I upchucked a little reading that truly nauseating statement from Cotton.

I’d like to see a good cite for that one. It’s sufficiently over-the-top that I find it hard to believe Cotton would say it publicly, even if it’s what he actually believes.

@hueyplong: FWIW, the Cotton statement is the one about which my initial reaction was, “Is this fake?”

It is real, most of it anyway. He wrote it for the Harvard Crimson as a 20-year-old student. It begins,

Men are simple creatures. It doesn’t take much to please us. The problem is women. How does an utterly simple creature understand an infinitely complex one? Since this creature realizes he is even simpler than most men, I knew only women could help me understand, well, women.

I have been asking women two questions. My first question was “What is your greatest fear in life?” Uniformity characterized the responses. (Yes, these are actual responses from Cliffies; I did not fabricate them.) “Watching my husband walk out on me.” “Losing my lover.” “Getting a divorce.”

My second question was very similar: “What is your deepest hope in life?” Again, the responses were uniform. “Finding and holding onto the love of my life.” “Being a good wife and mother.” “Marrying a man who worships me and whom I worship.”

    Really?

My sample is admittedly small and perhaps unrepresentative.

    Soooo believable…

Utah Sen. Mike Lee calls for defunding the U.S. military amid abortion policy debate
Lee, without evidence, accused Pentagon officials of spreading misinformation about a U.S. senator.

    | Updated: 5:52 p.m.

Utah Sen. Mike Lee — who has used his personal “BasedMikeLee” X account to claim the flooding that trapped thousands of people at the Burning Man festival was “God’s judgment” and to spread conspiracy theories about COVID-related lockdowns — is now taking aim at the Department of Defense.
In a Thursday night social media rampage, Utah’s senior senator called for cutting off funding to the U.S. military.
Lee has vigorously defended Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s month-long blockade of hundreds of military promotions to force the Biden administration to rescind a policy to provide leave and reimburse travel expenses for service members and their families to travel to other states for abortions. Service members cannot choose where they are stationed and may be stationed in a state that does not allow abortions after the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v. Wade last year.

Tuberville’s hold on promoting military leaders is now entering its eighth month.

Quick cable cut anecdote. A couple of years ago I left the house to run up to our local Mexican grocery/restaurant/butcher shop. On my way about a mile from my house they are doing the finishing touches on some major road construction, on one corner was the following tableaux. The Call Before You Dig guys with their cable locater, two construction guys with shovels and a dude on a backhoe. Oh quick mention this was a holiday weekend around 1600 on a Friday, think it was Memorial Day. I get my shopping done, head back home and the construction dudes and hoe operator are packing up and bugging out. When I get home my wife tells me the internet went down about 10 minutes ago. I told her to go ahead and call in and report the cable cut, we’ll hotspot till Tuesday or Wednesday.

I remember being in his Trump Tower apartment it’s just like coated with gold, gold toilets and gold everything right and in the corner I mean it’s incredible apartment 270 degree views and in the corner is a telescope and it’s gold and I and so I said kind of looked through it he said go ahead so I started looking through it he said “you know I saw the World Trade Center towers fall down through that telescope” and I go oh my god you know that’s horrible and he goes yeah “that’s pure gold” really that’s your takeaway from seeing all that.
