Cowboy has been returned to his owners, so you all can cross him off your list of concerns. On to our next Balloon Juice celebrity du jour:
This handsome boy needs a home:
Heya- not sure if you have time/room/inclination to post this on BJ, but I’ve been trying to find a home for a stray (dumped, I think?) young male cat that has taken up residence on my patio and is driving my (indoor) cats crazy.
He’s gorgeous- all white with gold eyes, a sweet temperament and VERY VOCAL. He wants to come inside so badly but my big male Satan cat would make short work of him. I’m guessing he’s around 8-9 months old, in decent health. I’m looking into a low cost neuter program, and will also get first round of shots if it helps.
I am in Houston and can drive a few hundred miles to meet if there any souls out there who need a smol white cat. I can get more photos if anyone is interested.
If you are interested, please say something in the comments and I or WG will sort you out and get you to the right person. As an aside, all of my cats have been vocal, and I would not have it any other way. I like that when I walk by Max or Steve (or Tunch, back in the day), nod and say “What’s up” and they meow back at me.
In other news, I am in a world class foul mood today. I am in such a mood that I told Joelle I am locking myself in the backroom so as to not be around you because I’ll just be a dick. So I am sequestered in the “Den of Iniquity” as Joelle likes to call the spare bedroom/makeshift office. I hate when I get in these moods, especially because I am of the belief that the only person who can control how you feel about things is you, but here I am feeling pissy and unable to do anything about it.
Also, I will task Joelle with taking some glamour shots of the critters. I’m fucking off to a fantasy video game.

Will happily chip in, if funding is needed for medical and/or travel expenses!
(Vocal cats have ‘Siamese’ genes — with all that implies.)
TaMara
I raise you your foul mood, add a raging headache and temps so cold that the ducks have to spend the next few days in the house.
I really need to rethink my life choices.
I’ll post about the cat to my friends/family in TX.
Rose Weiss
That guy is a beauty! Unfortunately I live in Oregon. I can chip in for medical expenses too.
Lyrebird
I like an image I read in a Thich Nhat Hanh (sp?) book, that moods are like the weather… we can respond to them in different ways, but we don’t pick them. Don’t have to blame oneself for them. YMMV.
Good on you John for sequestering the grumps.
NotMax
Moody Blues.
;)
schrodingers_cat
When I get in one of those foul moods, I draw or color or go for a long walk. Gorgeous white kitteh!
White is the most difficult color to get right btw. And I find animals more difficult to draw than humans
My FaberCastell Albrecht Durers are here. Now I have the full sets of both polychromos and Albrecht Durers. Bliss. They are such gorgeous pencils. Swoon. I will show myself out now.
ETA: I have the tin box not the fancy wooden one.

@schrodingers_cat
All some of us are capable of drawing are flies.
;)
Spanky
@NotMax: That’s what a shitty mood will get you.

Unrelated, but I’m a new volunteer at a local animal rescue. I walk dogs on the weekend. The organization is laser-focused on placement, so the dogs tend to be appealing, just the kind you want to take home. It’s maybe the most rewarding thing I do, if you count by heart strings pulled per unit time.
schrodingers_cat
@NotMax: Everyone has to start somewhere!
Kristine
Also happy to pitch in to cover any costs.
frosty
Crappy mood here chez frosty as well. I don’t think it sinks as far as foul though. I wanted to learn some tunes for an Open Mic but it just seems like work. Instead I got back to planning the next Road Trip through Voyageurs, Banff, Washington, Glacier, and T Roosevelt National Parks. Also work, but not quite the same. The interesting park is looking at the routes Google Maps gives us and thinking, hmmm, would I want to pull a trailer on this road?
Answer: Trans-Canada Highway through British Columbia: Hell no! Steep grades, sharp curves, tunnels and most of it 2-lane, which means cars stack up behind us. Now looking at other way to get to Olympic NP.
To get back to the OP topic: Pretty cat; they make me sneeze though.
Mary
I will pitch in for medical or transportation also. Lovely kitty. Thank you for helping him.
schrodingers_cat
@frosty: Take the train.
Literata
Am I allowed to de-lurk to admire the cat? I just said to my other half, “We really don’t need a fifth cat, do we?”
Omnes Omnibus
@Literata: You can delurk for whatever reason you choose. Now that you are here, consider sticking around.
Ramona
The bad mood might be a result of low-grade, longstanding sinus pressure…
Several days of slight but continuous pain will sap anybody’s mood.
schrodingers_cat
OT Has anyone watched the Hulu miniseries, The Looming Tower?
Literata
@schrodingers_cat: Not yet but read the book around 2009/2010. I was thinking of watching the series. Have you heard anything?
@Omnes Omnibus: Thank you! Cats are an excellent justification. We have a young all-black boy kitty and I’m having fun imagining him and a white kitty in a Good Omens-style frenemies situation
Timill
@Literata: No. A sixth, though…
Jay
@frosty:
Where is your planned start point for the trip to Olympic NP?
Yutsano
This could just be because I’m still in hospital and still a bit loopy but for some reason I want him. I’ll gladly defer to closer people, but he looks like he has the soft fur. I’ll also sling his deets to some of my Texas peeps.
satby
Houston has a Spay Neuter Assistance Clinic, Practice Manager: Lori Corbitt, [email protected]
P. 713.862.8001 (may take some persistence, they mention they’re swamped too)
I don’t have personal contacts there, but they may be able to help with a low cost neuter and initial vaccinations and testing. They may be able to point you to a foster home for him too, the temps are going to get very cold this weekend and he should be inside somewhere.
NotMax
@schrodingers_cat
AFAIK it doesn’t begin airing until the end of February.
satby
@Yutsano: Oh, that would be great! But transportation would be complicated by the incoming weather, so he still needs a temporary home.
Jackie
@Yutsano: I hate hearing that! Get better soon so you can adopt kitty!
satby
@Literata: @Timill: I’ve always wanted a white cat. But right now there’s 10 roaming around here, and only 4 are fosters. Hard to place fosters.
KrackenJack
@Literata:
Welcome into the light!
My mother had so many cats that strays would come in at feeding time assuming that they wouldn’t be noticed in the herd. We acquired a black Manx that way.
NaijaGal
Off topic, but I couldn’t find an appropriate open thread: Ohio grand jury refused to criminally charge Brittany Watts, the woman who miscarried at home and was then charged with felony abuse of corpse.
There are still sane people in this world – I’m relieved.
Keith P.
I’m in Houston and have a thing for white cats, but I’ve already got 3 indoor ones (although one is ancient). If you end up in a pinch, I might be able to help, but I’d prefer not to add to my cat count.
cckids
I’m also very tempted; we lost my gorgeous, cranky empress Hermione last April, and I am ready for a new addition to the family.
But also in N Seattle area, and lord knows, there are many local kitties needing homes.
NotMax
@NotMax
Scratch that comment. I misread the date.
schrodingers_cat
@Literata:@NotMax: Its on Hulu. I just watched the first couple of episodes. Its a 10 part series. So far I like it. IIRC it was first streamed in 2018.
satby
@Keith P.: Could you foster him? If you have a spare bedroom or laundry room that could be closed off, he could be isolated from your other cats until he’s had shots and a permanent home is found. Or one of Yutsano’s friends could maybe foster on his behalf?
First rule of rescue, get them off the streets so they’re safe.
satby
@NaijaGal: I saw that. She should sue the hell out of the hospital and the cops who destroyed the plumbing in her house. Especially the nurse who ratted her out for violating HIPPA.
frosty
@schrodingers_cat: Can’t tow the camping trailer behind a train! We like traveling this way – we always sleep in our own bed and we know where all our stuff is.

@Jay: Banff National Park. There are good roads south and west to Portland and we’re thinking of doing that route since we liked it there in 2022. It would take an extra day of driving.
schrodingers_cat
@frosty: Good point!
PapDad
I can throw in some $$ to help with kitty funds.
Soprano2
@TaMara: I was in a foul mood on Monday because hubby wouldn’t come downstairs to eat. He just stayed in bed saying he wasn’t sick just tired. I watched a cheesy Hallmark movie; it made me feel better for a little while. We’re getting that cold weather too as well as snow. I’m planning to not do much other than go to the symphony on Saturday. Stay warm and safe!
Jay
@frosty:
Take the #93 from Bamff down to the #95, then down to #3 and cross the border at Midway. It’s scenic, not too twisty until you get to the #3, and there is little commercial traffic.
That’s what I would suggest.
From May to September it’s also a “tourist route”, so, lot’s of RV’s.
Just watch out for the ones with Alberta plates. They drive like they are playing Mario Cart, right up until the corner, then act like they have never seen a corner before, and slowly creep around it.
Soprano2
@schrodingers_cat: I read the book which was excellent.
rikyrah
Such a cutie🤗
Hope that a forever home is found
frosty
@Jay: There used to be a Roads and Routes forum on RV.net (which got bought by Good Sam). A couple of people were recommending 95 south out of Banff and then 3 for the winery tours. They didn’t have the border crossing you mentioned so I’ll check it out.
Thanks! Glad to have a BC expert on the blog.

@NaijaGal:
Oh hallelujah! Thank you for posting that. That poor woman has been through so much.
Rileys Enabler
@Yutsano: he does have lovely fur, very thick.
Rileys Enabler
@satby: thank you, Satby. I’ve been trying to get him in to SNAP but may just go to a regular vet since all the rescues and low cost outlets are jammed right now.
We’ve put together a heated cat house on the patio because temps are about to freeze for a couple of days. I’m pushing all the avenues I can to get this funny boy a home.
thank you to all who offered to help with vet costs- we will cover those but may need help with travel if he finds a home at a distance. Cross your paws!
TBone
@NaijaGal: thank you. I needed that.
Pink Tie
We are in Houston and I would love to take that kitty in… but we have 3 great cats who have a nice family dynamic going on. I’m glad to hear he is going to have a warm place for the freezing weather heading our way next week.
Husband is saying no way to adding a 4th cat, but I’m going to work on him.
Keith P.
@satby: Sorry for missing yesterday. I have spare room he can stay in to get him out of the freeze.
Deborah
@Anne Laurie: I’m in Missouri and will gladly take the cat if someone can get him here.
