Biden Live: Reproductive Rights Event Open Thread

This post is in: Biden Administration in Action, Elections 2024, Healthcare, Politicans, President Biden, Vice-President Harris

FacebookTweetEmail

My schedule is all wonky today, so hopefully this will post on schedule if I’m not around to check on it.

As we mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Kamala Harris, Jill Biden, Douglas Emhoff, and I are highlighting the stakes of this election and the critical fight ahead against MAGA Republicans’ attacks on reproductive freedom.

And I know DeSantis is DeToast, but we can still kick him around for a few more days, right? I thought my Governor had an important take. For those who don’t know, Gov. Polis is a dad, husband, Jewish, and Gay, so he’s pretty savvy when it comes to assholes who try to vilify groups.

It looks like the event has been pushed back by 30 minutes.  I hit publish anyway because I have to take off and did not trust it to post on schedule. Which was lucky this morning because I didn’t realize the video time had already been adjusted for my timezone, and then it would have been 2 hours early.  Hopefully it won’t be pushed back further.

Thanks for highlighting this. Abortion is the one issue Republicans won’t be able to evade this year, no matter what. I’m very happy to see Biden-Harris highlighting it.

I hate to break it to Gov. Polis, but I don’t think DeSantis’ vilification of gays and trans are what lost him the nomination.

Really love how vociferous the Biden admin, and most elected Dems in general, have been about abortion rights. The other side wants us to be ashamed of supporting abortion. And we’re saying, shove your shame up your own ass where it belongs.

@Quinerly: I’m reading Tim Alberta’s book The Kingdom, The Power, and the Glory. He’s an evangelical who traveled the country visiting different churches. He found a lot of splits in churches over politics. It’s a pretty common belief among many of them that God sent Trump and if you reject Trump you’re going against God’s will. Like forcing out pastors who won’t go along with Trump worship.

Call me crazy…..actually, call THEM both crazy. In Trump’s mind MTG would help him in GA. For months I had thought Flynn. Then a few days ago I got to thinking Stefanik (he referred to her as a “killer”).

But now I can see him picking MTG. She is somewhat Palinesque and is more attractive than Stefanik. Plus…..Georgia.

Speaking of God and his endorsements and revealed commands: The Lord told us to’: US pastor says he stole $1m from Christians to remodel home

In a video statement about the charges, Eli admitted that the couple had squandered $1.3m that was raised through cryptocurrency.
“The charges are that me and Kaitlyn pocketed $1.3m,” Regalado said in the video published to INDXcoin’s website on Friday. “I just wanted to come out and say those charges are true.”
Regalado added: “A few hundred thousand dollars went to a home remodel the Lord told us to do.
“We took God at his word and sold a cryptocurrency with no clear exit.”
Regalado added that the couple still believes that God will “work a miracle in the financial sector”.

    @Gretchen:

I am not as up to speed on the evolution of Evangelicals during Trump as I probably should be. I know a lot of them think he is “God Given.” I guess I have found that so disgusting that I didn’t think I needed to know much more. I’m pretty much a Happy Heathen/Atheist.

I’m kinda sorry I have lost contact with Frank Schaeffer. Plus, I haven’t seen him on MSNBC in quite awhile. We have a mutual friend in St. Louis. The mutual friend and he were childhood friends. Somehow they kept in touch for 50- 60 years and when he would be in St. Louis speaking, promoting his books, she would host him at her home. This was back during Bush and Obama. One of the last times I saw him socially and spoke with him at length was when he was promoting his book, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back. This was right after Obama was elected.

I’m on my phone, so hunting and pecking on tiny keyboard. Can’t do a long post on Frank. I think most are familiar with him and his father (Francis Schaeffer….Moral Majority). Wikipedia is pretty good on them. I think I’ll touch base with our friend, Lydia, and find out if she knows why Frank isn’t out and about weighing in on today’s Evangelicals.

Well, it looks like the vote to build a new building for the regional voc-tech school is going to lose, because the more bougie people in the towns other than ours (where the school is) didn’t want to spend the money. The proposal was really expensive but it’s going to cost about 2/3 as much just to bring the existing place barely up to code, so the whole thing seems penny-wise and pound-foolish. But all the right-wing local papers said to vote no.
