Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Giving up is unforgivable.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

I really should read my own blog.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

We will not go back.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

Books are my comfort food!

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

I had this post scheduled, and it looks like Anne Laurie is working on a Michigan results post, too, so you may get two of them

Anyone know what time we can expect the Michigan results to start coming in?

So when Biden still gets over 80%+ even with the none of the above campaign that will of course get spun into weakness for him, even though any smart muslim would never want the other guy back regardless of any protest vote right now.

Random Michigan (or even other state curiosity question) – how do write ins work?

In Wisconsin (per my poll worker father), if you’re not a registered write in candidate, they don’t try to decipher handwriting, or keep track of how many votes Mickey Mouse got. (I guess you can also ask for the list of write in candidates for your precinct, which I will do the next time the GOP is running unopposed for something)

From NH Primary (and, it appears, Michigan), this varies by state. Anyone have more info? I’m curious…

From the NYT site, it looks like there are a few counties that are on *central time, so we likely won’t see results until 9 pm.

If I’m right about that, we should see a deluge of votes come it at 9 o’clock Eastern, on the dot, from the precincts that closed at 8 pm Eastern.

I had no idea that time zones could differ county by county.

    FYI Link

We will not begin releasing results until after 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central, because we have several polling sites that don’t close until 8 p.m. Central,” Benson said.

    WaterGirl got there first

    Added:

She also noted that changes in delivery methods may affect how long it takes to get results

“The transmission of data and results from the precincts to the absentee counting boards to the county clerks is also going to be a little bit slower this cycle, because we no longer use previously-used methods, which were electronic,” Benson said. “Now, a lot of places are physically delivering those in an effort to continue to ensure the security of the process. So that may take longer, particularly in places like Wayne County and Macomb.”

    Could be a long night.

I call it for Joseph R. Biden right now, though.

@WaterGirl: I read that results will be coming by 9:30 Eastern Time.

Reuters White House correspondent Nandita Bose is reporting from Michigan. She posted about interviews of Dearborn voters. Out of 11, 9 said they voted “Uncommitted,” and 2 said they voted for Trump. One, an Arab-American, said her familiy members voted Democratic (except for a sister who was a “Bush Republican.”

On the other hand, Bose reported that:

Outside of Dearborn, Michigan, things look good for Joe Biden. Spoke to a dozen Democrats in Detroit, who have all voted for Biden.

Suzy Villareal, 63, self-employed, voted for Joe at the Mayberry Elementary School.

“The alternative is a nutcase, who is trying to take our rights away. I don’t like the government making choices for women.

I have a granddaughter and I’m really worried about her future and he ability to make her own decisiions about her body.”

“I get what is happening in Dearborn and I’d be pissed too but now is not the time for a protest vote.

It’s just going to hurt Biden and get the other guy elected, and we can’t let that happen.”

In her Twitter heading, Ms. Bose says she is a Northwestern University grad and a Dog Mom.

@WaterGirl: It’s an important enough election that two posts would surely not be too many!  Not so much because of any doubts about who will win their primaries, more to see turnout.  I agree with something japa said, something like how this is exactly the time for a protest vote, if that is what those voters want to do.  No danger of throwing the primary to Dean Whatsit.

Just checked the FTFNYT election site; 22% of Oakland County is in and Biden has 88%; looks like uncommitted is in second with 8%.  Wayne County, which includes Dearborn, is less than 1% in, but that’s where uncommitted is doing better, running at about 30% to Biden’s 63%.

So–not much information yet. But if Wayne County keeps going as it has begun, that defines the November problem. Biden took 68% of the vote there in 2020, with a ~233,000 vote margin over Trump. His statewide margin was about 155,000. A 30% erosion in the fall would basically tie the election (assuming folks choose not to vote, rather than voting for Trump.  So there would be a lot of work to do.

Of course, this election won’t be a simple replay of 2020. I imagine the assault on women’s bodies and everything to do with sex, pretty much, will have significant effects on Trump’s electorate.  But still, work to do.

@WaterGirl: Yes of course, even here in Indiana, the NW and SW counties are on Central time (and most of my life the whole state would alternate Eastern/Central because we never changed the time).

But we non-Michiganders always forget about the U.P.  If you look at Google Maps, (and do the longitude), the westernmost part of Michigan is about exactly due north of Saint Louis.  I love geography!

No clue.  I am curious whether more people live in Dearborn, MI than in NH… okay quick search says  no, The entire state of NH has 10x the population of Dearborn, and MI as a whole has like 7x the population of NH.

@Tom Levenson: That also assumes that none will hold their noses and vote for Biden in November. There’s probably a decent percentage who will vote for Biden when faced with the binary choice vs Trump.

I’m guessing Dearborn is a small part of Wayne County? (I think it also includes Detroit, but my knowledge of Michigan geography is limited.) I’m curious to see if that number drops as we get more results in (eg Dearborn wanted to go FIRST!) or if it’s static. I’m not saying losing 30% to uncommitted in Dearborn is great, but I’m curious to see how the numbers compare across precincts.

Also, apparrently Michigan also has made voting easier since 2020, so I wonder if that will impact turnout (now or in November).
