Open Thread: Let’s Help Adam and Rosie

John was going to do a post on this tonight, but turns out he’s without power, so it falls to me.

Open Thread: Let's Help Adam and Rosie 1

Some of you already know that Adam Silverman’s pup, Rosie, has developed lymphoma and is currently in treatment. Her chemo is going okay, with some pretty scary side effects that landed her in the emergency room for an overnight visit, as well as pushing her third treatment back at least a week. BUT, the good news is, her lymph nodes have returned to normal size with only a few treatments. So her prognosis is good.

Pet portrait of my black Lab mix Rosie. The bottom picture is a of a grinning 3 month old black Lab mix, her ears up with the tips flopped over, and her tongue partially sticking out. The upper picture is of an adult Rosie. Her red collar is visible, as is her front left paw. She has her ears pricked up with the tips flopped over. Her eyes are brown.

Barring further complications, she’s due for a total of 16 (!) very expensive treatments over the next few months. After conferring with the Blogfather, it was decided a fundraiser would be very helpful in defraying the costs.

As always, donate if you can. No obligations. Kind, supportive words in the comments are always welcome.

We did have a bit of a hiccup after I set things up and pulled it to ensure everything worked and I restarted it today.

Oh dear. I sure hope she’s feeling better soon. My kitty with lymphoma has been symptom-free for 3 years now, and goes in next week for his 6-month check-up. He hasn’t been eating too well, so he may be due for  another round of chemo. That’s why I made a rather small donation to the fund. (Also our other cat’s final illness two weeks ago was pretty expensive. It’s always hard to let go.) If Loki doesn’t need more chemo there will be more coming. I will be so happy to be able to donate! :-)

Pulling for Rosie, and Adam, and the rest of the pack!

It’s amazing to me that we can do nearly everything in veterinary care that we can in human care. I’ve always thought that was only fair, since we test all this stuff on animals first.

But lordly, the cost does add up.

Best of luck, and many scritches.

    Done and done.

My Sully and I visited our vet daily for 7 months for subQ fluids to keep him alive when his kidneys were falling. He was a rescue, and an asshole, and there was no way I could do the subQ at home so we had to have them done at the vet.

It worked until it didn’t and he stroked out, twice, in my arms.

I will always regret what I put both of us through, after the fact. I will always feel grateful for the love we shared for those weeks.

Never an easy, right answer ….

No there is not. However. Healthcare is far better now than when I was born and the only vaccine for humans was for small pox. But the flat earth morons will always be against everything but $75K pickumup trucks or winning Lotto, because mumble, mumble, bullshit. I am definitely pulling for Rosie! I know a basset who has been lucky enough to be cancer free for 3 years. I’ve had 2 basset hounds with lymphoma. Didn’t work for the first (we even tried the “rescue protocol”) . The second had an adverse reaction to the chemo and it destroyed his bone marrow’s ability to make red blood cells. I wish you the best of luck but will not do it again for any of my pups.

It seems to have taken me ten plus tries to convince Paypal that I was a human.  I’m not sure whether the issue was metaphysics – is a brake lever or the person on a motorcycle part of the motorcycle? – or that I am too stupid to recognize human constructions.  But I apparently did not know what a crosswalk, a bicycle, traffic signal or a motorcycle was many times in a row.

@db11: Me too. Thinking back, some of the most memorable and actionable giving I’ve ever done has been here.

People, animals, servers, maintenance, shelters, disasters, rescues and transport, Ukraine, emergencies, injuries, surgeries, (fuck) cancer, and other exciting and scary and sad things. Art appreciation, author recognition, fucking awesome quilts (so awesome!!!) and the cool thing with the read/watch/listen recs.

There are also experts here:  Scholars, data scientists, David Anderson, Adam Silverman, Henry, Steve, and the most recent butter lamb. Birds, bees, flowers, trees (the willow is too close to the house!).

I remember the mustard, mop and various other fascinating incidents. And the animals and the gardening and recipes.

It’s nice growing older with an online community. I can’t believe it’s been 2+ decades. I bet this is practically a top 10k blog by now!
