This is awesome:
In an interview with ABC News’ Elizabeth Vargas, the Republican vice-presidential nominee was asked about 2012, whether she was discouraged by the daily attacks on the campaign trail, and would instead pack it in and return to her home state of Alaska.
“I think that, if I were to give up and wave a white flag of surrender against some of the political shots that we’ve taken, that would bring this whole … I’m not doing this for naught,” Palin said.
Palin said she believed in the current GOP ticket and that she was “thinking that it’s going to go our way on Tuesday, Nov. 4. I truly believe that the wisdom of the people will be revealed on that day,” she said.
Maverick! After all, she has said she has nothing to lose.
I hope the ever-narrowing frothing right base rushes to embrace their new Queen.

just saw a white McCain sign. I gotta investigate who had these made, there are racists about.
demimondian
She’s built up a pretty maverickety superstructure for a campaign in 2012, fer sure.

Sarah Palin
Joe the Plumber
McCain sure can pick’em!
kommrade jakevich
Translation: You can have my designer wardrobe when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
This is just all kinds of awesome. I suggest that any old-school Republicans stop waiting to get party back start building a new one. The old one done broke.
SpotWeld
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
Sarah Palin is poised to become a huge right-wing blogger phenomenon.
Dennis - SGMM
Indeed.
Comrade Jake
I look forward to the protracted Romney-Palin wingnut primary battle in 2012. The Douchebag vs. the Dimwit.
Comrade Jake
The sheer arrogance of this Palin chick, you have to admit, is fairly stunning.
LiberalTarian
If Obama has a really good first term, she’ll hold off til 2016.
Then, my friends, we’ll be in trouble.
kommrade jakevich
Doggone, I’m not doing this, though, for naught, also. Youbetcha!
Watching this maniac shove her way in front of the cameras only to drool on her mandolin blahnicks would considerably blunt the pain of a McPalin admin.
e.c.
WOW, that girl is De-lu-sion-al. Hasn’t anyone told her that she has the highest negatives of the two tickets? On second thought, let’s just keep that our little secret. I only hope that she can avoid being impeached or indicted back in Alaska long enough to fulfill her destiny and rule the world.
Crusty Dem
Sometimes, you get the leader you deserve. For today’s republicans, that’s Palin. Congratulations morons…
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
What is Palin’s plan for being someone people will remember in 2012? She has to get through four years unscathed. I don’t see it happening. She’ll be long forgotten.
Crusty Dem
I feel pretty much the same about W, btw.. Good job, America.
Dennis - SGMM
By 2012 the Repubs will have some new rising stars, some of whom may even be articulate. The fun will ensue as each savages the others in a headlong rush to the right.
handy
She is shrill.
r€nato
she couldn’t wait until next Wednesday to dis her own ticket, could she? I mean, would it have been so hard for her to STFU for another week before talking about the next presidential election cycle?
I hope McCain is happy with his brilliant VP pick. I bet Cindy is telling him, ‘see where thinking with the little head gets ya?’
Comrade Stuck
Snarking that occurrence is well beyond my meager capabilities.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
Well, we definitely have learned she’s not a team player, unless it’s strictly referred to as "her team".
Sarah Palin: top of the ticket or nothing
Far Left American Hater Incertus
Does this strike anyone else as something that wouldn’t seem out of place in an Austin Powers movie?
The Miami Herald mislabeled a McCain picture, but they confused him with Obama–they must not have gotten the memo from Palin’s people.
Dennis - SGMM
Got Jimmy Cagney in the gangster epic "White Heat" on the DVD player. In picking Palin, McCain took himself for a ride.
Far Left American Hater Incertus
@CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII: She’s trying to grab hold of the narrative before someone else does. I mean, it’s clear that someone’s going to take it in the neck for McCain’s disastrous campaign, and now that she’s seen the big city, she’s not going back to the tundra willingly.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
I hope he got in some nice scenery before they started heading for the cliff.
LiberalTarian
But, I gotta tell ya, my biggest disappointment of the election.
Gretchen Wilson.
Sigh.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
She can grab hold of the narrative now all she wants, she has to keep it fresh for four years. Highly unlikely she can manage that.
Punchy
Nobody gives a fuck about some strung-out zealout pullin partisan strings in Nowheresvilletundra, AK. Either she gets elected to DC or she’s a Jeopardy Q in 2 years. No chance she stays "in the spotlight" vetoing restrictions on Igloo sizes and controlling crab fishing in the Aleutins. (sp?)
Far Left American Hater Incertus
@CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII: Oh, I don’t think she’ll succeed for as long as a month after the election. The big dogs in the money side of the party think she’s a joke, which she is, and scary, which she is doubly, so they’ll be out front on her. And her base isn’t quite comfortable with the idea of a woman in charge–fundamentalists are still pretty old school on that. They took to Palin because she was paired with McCain, but if they see a male version, I bet they’ll dump her in a heartbeat.
Brian J
We’ve heard before that people don’t vote for the president based on the vice presidential pick. We’ve also heard reports that Palin has energized the McCain ticket, at least at first, and that she could be helping McCain where he was lacking: with volunteers and GOTV efforts. But if the first notion holds true, then isn’t he really stuck, even if Palin inches him closer to the finish line by just a little.
jrg
Palin does not want to run in 2012, she wants to get a T.V. show. She’ll be like Oprah (if Oprah was a mean, delusional, semi-literate redneck).
Phoenix Woman
This is all about the Great Schism in the GOP.
The Corporate Wing of the party is trying to put the TheoCons back into a subordinate position. Their method: Blame Palin for McCain’s losing to a black man. (Notice that of all the Republicans who stepped up to criticize her recently — Rudy, Colin, Lieberman (honorary GOPer), Mittster, Hagel, and Ridge — not one of them was a TheoCon aside from maybe Hagel — but the Theos don’t like Hagel as he’s not obedient.)
Neither Palin nor the TheoCons will sit still for this. Palin’s not very bright, but she is cunning, and she’s left a lot of shivs buried in a lot of backs up in Alaska.
kommrade jakevich
This doesn’t come as a surprise because I visited the Sarah Palin Promise for America store earlier today:
Pretty odd sentiment to hold about someone who isn’t named John S. McCain.
Somehow, I doubt she wants to bring that up.
No pun intended.
Xanthippas
Shhhhh…don’t blow it. We’re this close to locking up at least 12 years of Democratic Presidents. Just keep telling everybody how much she sucks and they’ll stick with her like flies to flypaper purely out of their reflex love of everything libtards hate.
Jon H
Well shit. If she can’t keep the fucking clothes, she might as well go for 2012.
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s
Who’s to say she isn’t the top Presidential contender EVEN IF mcCain/Palin win. She has a reputation of stabbing her mentors in the back.
Imagine that…the seated VP running against the current President in the primaries.
Personal Designation
and is Obama Top Gun. . . Iceman?. . . Viper?. . . Hollywood?. . . Jester?. . . Slider?
Joshua Norton
Hell, she’s told people that John McCain was her running mate. I don’t recall a VP candidate doing that before – and not being taken to the woodshed for it.
ray
jrg up thread is right. She wants to be Oprah-ish.With all of the perks a one name celeb expects. I don’t think she can wait 4 years for that status nor do I think she sees the slog of presidential politics as the road to take. Sarah will grab an offer she can’t refuse as her Governorship comes to an end 2 years from now. A serious 2012 contender? No.
Tsulagi
Have we reached Peak Bush yet in the Pub party? Really, you would have thought Bush was a little bit unique. But apparently already a virtual Bush clone is waiting in the wings to continue the spoiled brat’s legacy. How many of these tards do they have?
Actually I think she would be worse. Bush is a slacker. While the retarded spoiled brat can effortlessly fuck things up, Palin the Diva would work harder at it. And would be even a little more convinced of her greatness.
jcricket
I think she’ll be needing some of that superstructure to mount a legal defense on the wall of ethics investigations she’s gonna be facing at home.
If she’s not impeached in the next 4 years, and doesn’t lose the next election (for AK governor), she will probably try and run and I will laugh my head off.
In between now and then is 2010, of course. If Dems win that round again (i.e. hold or pick up more seats) and Obama’s done a reasonably good job, the GOP will be facing a tough crowd in 2012.
But personally, I can’t wait for people like Jindal, Palin, Huckabee to become the new GOP. Big spenders + low taxes + Christianism. Sounds like a recipe for massive electoral success if you ask me :-)
iluvsummr
@CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII: She certainly knows how to get back at McCain’s campaign team for perceived slights. Serves them all right.
oh really
The Dumbass Borealis for president in 2012.
I don’t see why she and Dumbass the Plumber don’t just start their own party : The Dumbass Party.
Think of the epic battle as the two Dumbasses fight for the nomination in 2012.
Shibby
I am a fairly cynical person and I believe that a significant part of her appeal is her perceived attractiveness. It is a terribly sad reason to vote for someone but she’s not getting any younger. I wonder what she will look like 4-8 years from now and if her supporters will trade her in for a "newer" model.
Time will tell.
AnneLaurie
But those same fundamentalists are quite comfortable indeed with the idea of a woman to *scapegoat*, going back to their Biblical narrative where the Angry Father-God asks why the first two humans did the one thing He expressly told them not to do, and the First Man immediately responds, "The woman tempted me!"
Phoenix Woman is right… at least part of the current Repub kerfuffle is the "traditional" Robber Baron branch of the GOP trying to re-subordinate the Talibangelicals without alarming the fReichtards into abandoning them for Ron Paul or Lyndon LaRouche. And because Palin is such a caricature of a female candidate, blatantly chosen for her boobs & biases rather than her brains or experience, she’s bringing out the misogynistic streak that lies just beneath the surface of a lot of political discourse along the entire spectrum of ideological belief.
tavella
I’m mostly on the side that says that Palin has too much trouble brewing at home and has made too many enemies among the money men to be viable for 2012, but I’m not *confident* about it. Too many jingoistic and dim frontmen have gotten far with the Repubs to say for certain.
bellatrys
I’ve overheard 4 people praising Palin – in groups of two, mutual-support teams of nose-holding McCain voters.
The first was a pair of local small businessmen, one of whom may or may not be a good businessman but is a rude and jerkish fellow, and the other I know is a total incompetent who has run his business in a steady decline since buying it because he can’t be arsed to learn anything about the industry – both of them insisting in the primaries that both HRC and BHO only got where they were (in college, in politics) by taking away the rightful places of deserving white men, and though McCain wasn’t a "real" conservative still he was better than either terrifying alternative and when Palin came along, regurgitating the FOX claims that "she’s WAY more qualified than he is, that ‘community organizer’–!"
The second was a pair of senior citizens on the bus, one an old aggressive hatchetfaced guy hassling other passengers to tell him who they were voting for, not taking "secret ballot!" for an answer and then being miffed when the answer wasn’t to his liking, ranting about how McCain was the best choice and nobody could trust Democrats on the economy and anyway what was wrong with all that money on clothes? who knew how much Obama and Biden spent on their suits? Good for her, getting whatever she could! – iow IOKIYAR – and at this a little sheep-faced old lady piped up "I LOVE Sarah Palin! I think she’s wonderful, she’ll make a wonderful president some day!" and they both shook hands congratulating themselves on being smart.
The creepiest thing was that the old guy was offering as one of his excuses for voting against Obama, that "some nut in North Carolina or somewhere" would assassinate him and then we’d end up with that other guy, who knows anything about him? as president–"
I’m not sure whether to call them "low information" or "high disinformation" voters, but so far these are the only people I’ve encountered IRL who will admit to supporting McCain, since January.
Genine
Love the title, John.
As for Palin’s viability. Though Theocons aren’t crazy about women in power. I think they may see propping Sarah up to their advantage.
Huckabee is a TheoCon and has some pretty frightening ideas, but I think that he’s basically decent if misguided. Palin on the otherhand is just mean and vicious and using religion as a club to bludgeon people with sits well with her. Unlike Huckabee, I think she’s more comfortable and conscious of this fact, which would make her a far more useful tool because she is a willing tool.
And, the TheoCons may use her sex as a shield as they push their agenda through with cries of sexism if it is criticized like the McCain camp has done.
The only disadvantage the TheoCons need to consider is Palin’s power-hungriness. But I can think of a number of ways they can work with her and minimize the back-stabbing.
True, the big money boys won’t go for it. But never underestimate the "base". There are millions of people who think they and the country will be A-OK if we kill muslims, gay people and force women to have babies against their will.
I think the TheoCons should have their own party, then maybe we can have a decent working conservative party again. I may be a hippie, but I do yearn for some good opposing ideas.
J.
Okay, Palin may have just clinched my "Who’s the scariest pol?" Halloween poll/contest. Wouldn’t surprise me if she wore a white sheet for Halloween.
Michael D.
And I hope I never see the day where someone says “President Palin”
PaulW
I wonder how Palin’s gonna be able to run in 2012 when she’ll be in jail for all the ethics violations the state of Alaska is turning up on her.
