Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

T R E 4 5 O N

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Let me file that under fuck it.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

When we show up, we win.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

From commentor Faisal:

My friend’s cat, Steve*, went missing this afternoon in Alphabet City in Manhattan. She is as distraught as one might expect. If you’re looking for an excuse to start another open thread, or are just feeling generous towards strangers, could you post something about the enclosed?

* Really

Can you post a link Facebutt will like? I’ve plenty of friends who might repost, and one in Boston who absolutely will, and I’m sure has plenty of ppl in NY rescues I don’t know.

@SectionH: The whole picture and phone number is an image–a Missing poster. Download it and you can upload it to wherever to put on Facebook.

@SectionH: For me, if I click on the image it opens as a full link to the jpg. So if that’s what you want, you can try that. If I right click on it, I get lots of options, including copy image, save image as, copy image location, and so forth. Hope that helps.

Right-click on the image, then select “Save image as . . .” to save it to your computer. Then you can put that on Facebook or wherever you want.

I just heard from my friend that someone called, and the cat is now home and being delivered unto a bath. I don’t know if that call was from one of ours, but even if not, thank you to everyone who helped get the word out. I believe this can now revert to an open thread, discussion of the appropriate Burkean response to vagrant cats, or Anne Laurie can delete the post, or what have you.

No wonder it got lost! It rides on the top of SUVs, apparently. Your friend the driver likely went Spanish Train around an S-curve and exceeded Steve’s paws’ coefficient of static friction.

Thanks to all. This is Steve’s owner — he is indeed home safe and sound and very filthy. I really appreciate everyone’s compliments, support and reposts. Steve seems very pleased with himself and his outdoor accomplishments because he is a jackass. Thank you again, for real. Those of you that like his eyeliner can follow his instagram hashtag at #thedailysteve. He is vain.
